Fly Fish Hunter Merch is here! flyfishhunter.bigcartel.com/
It was a beautiful day and I couldn't resist hopping in the Jeep and driving to this tiny creek which is just a few miles from my house. A few years ago I specifically bought a 6 ft zero weight fly rod with this nearby creek in mind. It's super fun to use and it makes fly fishing with dry flies for these native rainbow trout a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy the outing as much as I did!

Memories. I grew up 15 min walking from a tiny stream. My Dad shut a glass Shakespeare 8 foot 4 weight in the tailgate (the butt, not the tip). That became my 6 foot rod for canyon fishing. More bow and arrow casts than anything due to overgrowth. Biggest fish was 11 inches, but my brothers and I would have 40 fish days.

Wow, great rod story! I love it! Did you wrap the base to make a new handle? 40 fish days..... so fun!! My first fly rod was given to me..... probably because it was worthless. A Master Boron C BC80 fly rod that had a black foam handle and one of the snake guides was attached with duct tape. I still have it in my collection. :-)

I do a lot of this in my central Sierra small streams. Light, short rods, one small fly box, some 4X and 5x tippet, nippers and a hemostat and you’re good to go. I see guys with 9’5wt rods launching a 7” trout on the hook set. I say let the fish show off, and a short rod and light line will spook fewer fish. And don’t be fooled, I have landed 20” fish on those rods. Good times.

Great Video. I laughed because you remind me of myself in a few of these clips. Whenever I have a perfect cast I get angry that the fish didn't bite. But this is a good lesson for beginners, you don't need a perfect cast to catch fish. Some of your casts weren't perfect and you were still getting strikes. I like the way you just keep casting and don't waste any time crying. The more the line is in the water, the more fish you are going to catch. Loved the slo mo series near the end.

This is *super* reminiscent of my native brookie adventures. Something about smaller, native trout…they have this tendency to come up, go “jdkkvjf!” and miss half their strikes. Dang! And I thought that my 7½' 3wt was light! I know I miss some hook ups because the rod is slower than I'm used to. I would think that a 0wt would be a little too noodley. How do you even find line for that? I might consider a Tenkara instead...

I would say a rod being noodley is down to the rod’s action and not an attribute inherent to rod weight. I have two 0wts... a fast and a slow. Same with my 3wts. I have three and each has its own action. Rod weight doesn’t determine action.

Bit of advise, you started to far up the pool, when you started a fish rose behind you, but you were looking upstream and didn’t see him, always start slow and work your way up from the bottom quietly. Also try to use less false casting, fish can see it in certain light conditions and it puts them down. Think sniper not artillery old boy.

I checked it out. Thanks for letting me know. As my mentioned, good to see that they are making a comeback in the US. I think the GR60 6' 3wt would be the closest thing to what I have.

Can I ask what make rod you were using? A friend of mine has a sunray zero weight and it's extremely good... Or maybe he's just extremely good at casting it. I use a #3 but I'm not by any stretch an accomplished caster. Loved the video, some lovely little fish. Take care.

Hi Will! It's an old Grey's zero weight that they no longer make. But Greys is starting to make a comeback in the US so keep an eye out for them. Thanks for the support!

Hi Alexei! To protect my local fisheries, and the local fishing community, I don't promote what rivers I'm on. Just something I decided to do when I started my channel. Thanks so much for checking it out! 👍

I know! I was using a humpy and it was too big for a lot of these little fish. Need to get a better pattern but they love that one so much!

The place is beautiful. The video is clear good sound. But the biggest drawback was no justice on the fish. You didnt take it into your hand to see a clear view of the fish. You kept it in the net always.👎👎👎
