One great thing about it being "tiny" is you can play it on pretty small tables which is sometimes a need when a game group plays in a restaurant with only small tables.

Nice review, Tom. We play this game at lunch, and the size of the box and components facilitate being able to get quick plays in. That said, if a true "deluxe" version (not just the same game with an expansion) of game were to come out with larger components and thicker boards, I would insta-buy. It's the best of the Tiny Epic series, I think.

The price and the size are BOTH advantages! We sometimes have our game-night at a bar and table space can be limited. Our next game night in a local bar is actually themed "all small games." It will include Tiny Epic Galaxies, For $sale, Get Bit and Forbidden Island.

I Kickstarted it, so glad I did. Amazing game. Art is fantastic! But I like you wanted the home worlds cards bigger. So I think I will scan them and enlarge them to the size of the box. Unless someone on BGG does it first? My scanner is not the best. I can print them on card stock to give them a stiff feel. Nice review Tom.

Well, Tom. Let me say that I'm from a country, where a board game doesn't cost 30-70, it costs at least 3 times as much. You know how much MageKnight costs? 300. And no, we don't earn 3-4 times more money than you. We earn less than you. So when a game that stands on it's own thanks to mechanics releases in such small size I'm happy that I don't need to pay ~150 for it just because of fancy elements and looks. Country is Poland. It sucks to live here money-wise, everything from electronics to games is so fricking expensive it's crazy.

Is yours more or less than; Food = $4 milk and bread. $3.50 lettuce Petrol = $1.60/L Housing = $200 to $400 per week I never trust media reports, rather real people. No offence intended by the question, I am just watching this world economic issue carefully and your honesty and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Bread = 2,5 PLN, milk = 2,50 PLN for 1 liter, petrol = 4,60 PLN for 1 liter, housing = the cheapest is around 2,000 PLN per month, so less than 200PLN per week per every person if there were 3 people living. Also: electricity = 0.55 PLN per kWh.

At 4:55 in the video you say that if you roll an energy die that you can take an energy and because there are two ships you can 'take' two energy. What does 'take' mean? How do you 'take' energy. Does 'take' mean that you move your energy marker 2 boxes (from 2 to 4) on the resource track?

So glad I backed this. The solo game is even solid and challenging. I enjoyed TEK and liked that one, but this is amazing. Worth buying when available. The super weapons are a cool addition but just adds a little bit more options and one time use abilities with the acquired satellites, I'll always play with it but core game is fine.

i absolutely agree with your complaint Tom, when i opened the game and pulled out the cards i thought the exact same thing but i was pleasantly surprised when i turned the card over and saw the single player rogue galaxy variants although that made me annoyed the cards were that small again lol.

As a college student who often lugs games around, I walked around Origins this weekend specifically looking for small box games that are quick but with depth. Small games are not only quick to set up and fit in my backpack but are also far less intimidating for a new player. who can be intimated by a 3x6

Joined the Kickstarter campaign, after the introduction i just knew this was a great game, small, but really good. Also the, mechanic of following people makes sure people stay engaged, and you may have to think about what you do, in case people follow, if they can, that adds more strategy. For a small and simple game, there is a lot in here. So far i played it with 4 people, they all really really like it. I even think this is a great gateway game, because it's different, easy to set up, easy to learn.

Can you talk about the bins in the background. What do you keep in those and where did you get them?

I love this game, and the super weapons expansion adds a bit of desperation to planet conquest as satellites are such a precious resource. This review is pretty spot on, however I am concerned that Tom says it's excellent, but doesn't give it the Dice Tower seal of excellence lol. As for the size, I live in a small NYC apartment, gaming space is a luxury, and having it fit on a small side table really is a HUGE bonus.

Instead of using tokens on main card, it should come with card indicator that you can slide over main card. Kind of like Heroclix.

These games are great. Great portable games for camping, trips, going to a friends house etc. I can bring all my clothes for a weekend and my entire Tiny epic games collection all in one backpack.

I liked your review but I have to say that professional gamers sometimes seem like a professional gourmet who doesn’t understand why every meal isn’t a sprawling 5 course meal. Tiny Epic Galaxies appeals the most to me because of its small playing footprint. I can take it and play it at lunch without commandeering the whole table and the adjacent soccer field. Does anybody remember Metagaming? I loved those games. Little games, they didn’t take a lot of space, you could play them in 30 minutes… It’s a valid niche which not enough companies are chasing. So kudos for Tiny Epic Galaxies ))) Interestingly some of the other “Tiny Epic” games are a lot more bigger when you play them. (Ninja’d 7 years ago by Joshua Johnson. And more succinctly too)

+WWEisnotPunkrock There's no "exterminate", unless you count the card effects that push back your opponents' colonizing efforts. Pocket Imperium is more of a micro 4x as such, and not just because it has four phases named after the four X-es :)

This one is definitely fun. It hits all the cylinders because the game has all the fun elements like Vegas Dice (Yahtzee, Dice), Ticket to Ride (collecting points, secret mission), Settlers of Catan (special abilities, cards). So if you want to make a fun competitive game, just combine Ticket to Ride and Settlers of Catan. And if you want to make a fun cooperative game, combine Pandemic and Forbidden Island/Desert. Finally, make them with different themes: Fantasy and Space.

+koomo801 In a game where one player knows the game well and another is brand new that can certainly happen, but I have not seen it in games where the players are on somewhat equal footing. In fact, I have played this game a lot. Just the other day, I introduced a friend of mine to this game. While he had never played the game before, he is an experienced gamer. The game ended with a narrow victory for him. We tied for points, but he had colonized one more planet than me.

It also should have come with a score track. I think that is a huge oversite of this game. It is stupid that you have to continually ask your opponents what the score is. It would have been on extra piece of cardboard to include, not a big deal.

+pad92011 All of the tiny epic games are more like travel sizes of other better games. I have the first two and to be honest I'd rather play a larger game if I'm playing somewhere other than a coffee shop. Great for those kinds of situations though.

I have to disagree, I didn't like this at all. If I made a list of things I don't like in a game they're all there- dice, analysis paralysis, loads of downtime between turns, basically no player interaction. We were playing a five player game and I couldn't get any culture for love nor money so the ten minute downtime between turns I spent paying with my phone as I couldn't follow anyone so I had no interest in what was going on.
