I believe from what I've seen on KZbin this would be considered a "Shanty" boat
@classicperformance11 ай бұрын
We could consider that name, but watch and see how it turns out and let us know then. Thanks for the interest.

I've been told to avoid screws for framing. Reason being is that screws are too ridgid and too strong of a bond. When you account for swaying from wind and in your case wake also it would put too much stress on the wood opposed to nails. Love your build though.

Very good point, and we agree. You would not want to use deck screws in any structural application. However, in structural it is approved to use Simpson Strong-Tie screws, which is what we used knowing the stresses. You are correct a standard screw will snap vs a nail which will flex. Appreciate your interest.

Wood vs steel stud? Would steel stud not be lighter and easier to work with?
@ErikNorling-w3q9 ай бұрын
Nice build! Looking at doing something similar, Do you have to go by any building code (24" centers?, ect) and will you be able to register it with no VIN number? Keep it up👍 Thanks Erik

No building codes for a boat! it has a VIN plate and we have a title for it being a 2001 Bentley Smoker Craft. Was easily registered through the Department of Natural Resources.

Why did you frame with wood instead of square aluminum posts?

Just easier for me at the time.

How much was the total build?

All in without any engine and controls, about 9k.

Actually they're called shanty boats.. you want to talk about light try metal studs.
@classicperformance10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the info! I considered metal studs. Went with the 2x3 just to save a little weight. I was unsure what the whole thing would weigh.
