I miss visiting you on KZbin, so occasionally I rewatch some of your videos. I'm going to be selling my house this year, would love to live in a tiny home, but there just isn't enough room in them for me. I have seen pictures of two mini homes put together, usually in a "L" shape. I might try that, with a wooden deck in front, a small greenhouse on part of the deck. I love cooler areas to live, can't tolerate high heat. I'm disabled and too old to shovel snow, so trying to figure out where to live. I'm very impressed with your strength and stamina, admire you for your accomplishments, thankful for your willingness to teach others.

I just got up and got a piece of my wife's corn bread with real butter of course. And your right, i love soups when its winter time. The smell of a pot of soup on the stove when i come in from a days work outside when its cold is such a wonderful feeling it is such a comfort food. It makes the bear in me extra sleepy during the hibernation season.

I'm sure you already may know it, but a cast iron skillet is perfect for baking cornbread in. It's also great for the cast iron seasoning. I screwed up once and made the batter too thin (with no extra flour to thicken back up) so I made cornbread griddle cakes. A big hit with the family and worked great with the venison stew I made. For years after that's how I had to make it so my kids would eat cornbread.

Hi! I always made my cornmeal the way you do, but about a year ago I saw a friend make it with a lot more liquid. She used more than a cup of milk, maybe even 2 cups! I was shocked, but being polite, I just watched. She let the cornmeal sit in the liquid after stirring it in well, then when putting it in the oven, she stirred it again. It's amazing how delicious cornbread is this way!

Hi Ariel, since you mentioned the difficulty of digesting corn, you might try making some cornbread with masa harina which is flour made from corn that has been nixtimalized. This process increases the nutrients in corn and makes it easier to digest.

When using coconut flour in a recipe reduce the amount by 75 percent. It absorbs a lot of moisture and expands. If a recipe calls for 1 cup of all purpose flour you only need 1/4 cup of coconut flour. Otherwise the product is very dense and dry.
@FyNyth5 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I've not found there to be much of a difference that I've noticed in my cooking.
@SherryEllesson4 жыл бұрын
@@FyNyth Hi Ariel - seeing you in September 2020 - I can't speak for 75% reduction, but I know I've typically cut my coconut flour by 1/2 or more in most recipes. I can use Almond flour straight across, but for Coconut, I definitely had to increase the liquid by a lot. Maybe the difference in your altitude is part of the difference. If it keeps raining here in Delaware (Sept 9, 2020) I may have to adjust for below-sea-level baking.
@rawlawgirl7 жыл бұрын
I would have to whip the cornbread ingredients so that it bakes light and fluffy. I have never make cornbread, but maybe I will try it minus the eggs and agave or syrup instead of honey.
@FyNyth7 жыл бұрын
I think it would be fine without the eggs, but you have to add a little more of some other liquid. I don't know if you do dairy, but yogurt works well as a substitute for eggs. Or if you don't mind it being a little more sweet, applesauce can be substituted as well.

Yep, most of the cornbread gets eaten with turnip greens, mustard greens and collards down here. A big bowl of turnips and roots with a dash of pink salt and a spoon of bacon drippings (39 calories per teaspoon!) can't be beat. I just watched your mint tea video, so now I have to go to the seed store and plant some when it's time...I could almost smell it! Take care.

Well it was a long process. I had eczema since my first (and therefore only, none of my other siblings, all younger, ever got shots) set of vaccinations. And it's something I've looked into my whole life. When I was young, my skin was so itch my parents had to keep mitts on my hand when I slept to prevent me scratching till I bleed in my sleep. Several things over the years helped improve my skin, but nothing ever seemed to fix it. Then one day I was reading something (I love reading everything I can about food/nutrition/health) where someone mentioned that they had eczema as well and when they quit eating wheat, it all went away. So I thought, what is there to loose? I'll just try cutting out wheat for a month and see what happens. And my skin cleared up! I also suddenly no longer had a runny nose/congestion constantly which I had just thought was normal. And I could smell things I'd never been able to, probably due to less congestion. It was an amazing difference! I doubt that wheat is the root problem, it might be more of an intolerance of glyphosate and the way commercial crops are raised. I don't know. I just know I feel better avoiding it. And it that whole experience has motivated me to learn even more about food and how it affects my health, the gut and how it's health affects everything else in my body, etc. I'm no doctor, I just find all of that fascinating.
