Very nice video I live in Miami Florida on a Catalina 30 1992 it's a great boat in the summer I had to the Bahamas and I'm very happy with my Catalina 30

Great tour. The reason boats have small but deep sinks is so you can get water depth without needing a lot of water.

ahh we have wondered about that, good to know!!

Great tour, for the sound system I've found that purchasing a good quality portable and waterproof speaker is the best for living aboard. That way no wires to chase and you can bring your music to the beach. I have the JBL boombox onboard my boat and its one of the best things for livaboard life .

Hey Sitka!! Nice to hear from some local sailors!! That is a great idea about something portable and waterproof....hope you are enjoying the warmer springtime weather!

My friend showed me your channel and said I'd find the boat very familiar! We're the original owners of a 1984 C-30 MK1, very similar to yours, and spend many "4-day weekends" living on it during the summer and fall on the Hudson River in New York. Most of our sailing these days consists of "day sailing" from a marina. We used to take long cruises with two kids and 4 folding bikes aboard! Some of the best improvements I've made is to install a 12,000 Btu water-cooled AC with heat and to add dockside water. I mounted a Jabsco pressure regulator through the cockpit wall, into the aft end of the deep locker. My water heater is in this locker. You only have to run a hose from the back of the regulator and "T" it into the cold water hose that goes from your pump into the water heater and install a check valve just downstream of your water pump. This was a game changer for living aboard! You can use the sinks all you want, drink the water, and take long showers without using any of your tank water and running the pump! I use a quick connect and shut-off where the dock hose enters the regulator and NEVER leave it on when not on the boat! I Love your insulation idea for the V-birth and will probably copy it! Thank you! That will make it so much easier to cool the V-area in the summer and keep it warm in the fall! I 'm still in love with the C-30 after all these years and I'm sure you will too. It has more room than any 30 foot sailboat on the water and will outsail them too! Enjoy your home on the water!

This summer you need to clean the water tanks. There should be a removable cutout to do so. No matter what you use the tank water for, you need to be able to trust it. When you get them clean, add a capful of bleach to each tank. I noticed the wood inside needs a little something. Varnish would be perfect, but I would recommend Liquid Gold, which is an oil which is none greasy. Keep putting it on as long as the wood will take it. Very good product for keeping the wood from drying out in the winter. If you don’t like it I will reimburse you for the cost. Tommy

Great to see the full interior. We've lived aboard for almost 3 years and this week we actually bought some foam interlocking mats for the v berth to prevent condensation where the mattress touches the wall. Always damp there but not anymore!!! Great idea

Also. The best snow shovel on the boat is the broom pan. Doesn't damage the deck and easy to maneuver in small spaces

You can buy fire proof rope seal by the foot or yard to seal your solid fuel stove as well as fire sealing silicon for sealing the flue. One of the days flush your tanks with a dilute cleaning solution like home brewers use depending on the tank materials ... flush it out and then fit a simple particulates filter downstream of the tank outlet.. Water kept cool and dark stays fresher longer.. V silly idea really selling it in clear bottles in terms of shelf life. 😉

I also want to offer a piece of advice. The wifi extender is located in the wrong location for good reception/transmission. The inverter and your other items in that area are extremely noisy electronically. You should get better reception with it if you can mount it as high and far away from other electronics/electrical items on your boat. Yes far is a relative term on a boat. :)

20:55 I fabricated the mattress platform in our ExpeditionVehicle of expanded metal, similar to stout window-screen. This allows plenty of ventilation under the mattress... a place with extreme potential to hold moisture, and grow great gobs of fungus.

Great video, remembering what it was like from our circumnavigation in the 1980s, presently cruising the Bahamas. My wife's book is a good read, published by Austin Macauley of New York, literally a fictional story of sailing and adventure: "Seychelle and the Cannabis Yachties". It is very entertaining, hoping you will give it a read.

For some reason I had lost your posts, and I could not recall for sure the name of your channel. I ran across a recent post where you took your tender out of cold storage (rocks as counter weights), pumped it up and sailed. I felt certain in the first ten or fifteen seconds it has the earmarks of your editing style but you both had changed enough over the months, and you sort of focused on your guest, so I was not certain. After an extensive search of my subscriptions on KZbin I found an image that I recognized, Just to let you know, your videography is very distinctive and tasteful. Oh, and thanks for the tour. What is the boat, may ask that you (probably) repeat yourself? Now to look over your home page and see what I have missed, I think I heard a reference to a sabbatical with personal issues, I will follow up, Doh -= Catalina 30, I see it in a comment below (or above).

Great video ...super clean and well organised cabin. Spot on. Do you guys drink the water straight or do you have a filter system? I guess town water is far away from being rich on information and therefore not ideal for consumption...not even thinking of how much polluted the water may be too. Greetings Rob

Really like this vlog/tour approach, obviously done from direct first-hand experience. Thanks for that, as I'm looking for a 30' myself and would like to use it year round (not liveaboard, but damp and cold sucks whether it's just an overnight or a long-term stay). What insulation did you use for the V-berth, sides and under the bed mattress?
