The rest of America should take notice and follow the example. You have people willing to spend money to move to the middle of NOWHERE. They build homes, pay taxes, possibly start businesses. Bravo SPUR, TEXAS!!

There are many miles of gravel roads In Spur and we drove around most of the next day exploring. One road was eponymously named Bomb Storage Road. The military had facilities everywhere and built roads to connect them. Ammunition bunkers, bomb storage, personnel housing, gun emplacements, fire hydrants, quonset huts, phone lines and poles; this is what you see wherever when your drive around Spur.

I love this and I never thought it would pass my mind moving to west Texas. Being a north Texas girl (4 hrs east), it would be unheard of, but....tired of renting and want something to call our own. It is prettier than I thought, definitely peaceful.

What a great state.........Texas always seems to "get it". They keep it simple, keep it real and keep it good. God Blessed Texas with his own hands..........and I can't wait to get a look at Spur. Looks like a tight community that is getting back to basics. !! Thanks for sharing this information. Way to go Texas!!!❤️❤️❤️So fun!!!!

There are scores of places other than Spur, Texas where you can go tiny LEGALLY. The key is finding "tiny towns". In the USA there must be @ least 2,000 communities where you can do the same.
@MasterChief-sl9ro7 жыл бұрын
Spur is the only one. As the land is Deeded to you. After you pay for it. Which is like $1500.00 for 20 acres. Go buy land that is deeded to you, free and clear. The city will take it from you. If you don't pay the taxes any place else... Read the Wall Street Journal. As other cities see Spur, Texas as a threat.
@Kitty-ig4yh Жыл бұрын
In those communities you don't own the land and have to pay an upwards of $600+ a month to park your tiny house. It's basically like elevated versions of trailer parks.

I’m very interested in getting a lot for $500, but the knowing of where to go to buy it, finding out if a lot is available, if I wanted to have the front of my lot to face the sunset, what are the names or proposed names of streets that I might live on, etc. Where’s the streamlined process to make this happen? I currently rent in a community that I call home, but the building inspector is way too cocky to, and as if the power to decide this, solely rests with his final decision, the house that I both want to own and live in. I get pressured to accepting the bare minimum of a two bedroom home. He and others say of what I can do with a second bedroom. I want a one bedroom home, that’s it! You go to a car lot to buy from what you assume are cars, but your only option and you must accept it or we cannot help you, is a huge, grand deluxe, two miles to the gallon, Cadillac. This is the anti-freedom attitude that I deal with. I cried with joy, how happy such sweet people as Denise Rosner and others, found their peace, freedom, and happiness to live in the home of their dreams without the crushing dream destroying codes that the rest of us live under. New here.

www.landwatch.com I bought a lot from them for $900. Arizona. It's only a quarter acre though. You can find more, for less in some parts of Texas. I've seen lots in your price range in New Mexico. If I were a fan of Texas, I'd go. But I do love that there are no size restrictions or mandatory grid tied systems there. That's normally the main problem.

New York is so expensive that the move probably paid herself. I've seen people sell off what they had in New York, no savings, and went and bought 40 acres in Texas. I bought 2 lots in Arizona, from Pennsylvania and I'm just a musician who only works a couple days a week for a few hours. It's easier than you think. Plus, these days, any online business can take you anywhere. That's how alot of people are able to move overseas. Online business and go.

Only town in US to allow tiny houses seems like a stretch. Portland, Oregon allows auxiliary dwelling units - basically one tiny house on the same lot as a bigger house. I've read that the Kansas City, Missouri Codes Administration Dept. is open to houses that are one room plus a bath, on a foundation, on a single family lot. There are regulations for bedrooms, main rooms, and kitchens, but if a single rooms meets all the regulations for each of those kinds of rooms it is legal. You would need to research those regs - a house could be less than 400 sq. ft. but probably not micro. I've seen new one-room houses in Austin, Texas too. (And aside from any city ordinances there are deed restrictions and governing covenants in many neighborhoods that don't allow any small houses so you would have to find a lot without those restrictions.)
@Mlogan117 жыл бұрын
They didn't say "only town" to allow tiny homes, but the only city with the least restrictions so as to actively encourage tiny homes being built there.
@JJoy-bk8yr7 жыл бұрын
I listened again very carefully. I did overreact to one phrase and went too far. One statement said the only town to allow tiny houses on any lot in town. Another statement said the only town to allow both tiny houses on wheels and tiny houses on fixed foundations. Those points were worth having a story about. But then came the wrap-up, "the first tiny house friendly town in America." That was what I was reacting to. I should have simply said that other US cities are friendly to tiny houses too, even if they are not as permissive as Spur.
@luckygirl59187 жыл бұрын
Agreed - they kept saying the ON:Y town and the first which is untrue. However what they are doing is often.

Walsenburg, in southern Colorado, is a town of around 3,000 residents. In 2014, the city changed its zoning rules specifically to allow tiny homes to be built on residential lots.
@beamills92057 жыл бұрын
i think what they mean is you can buy the lot and the tiny house in a package deal $30, 000, $35,000, $40,000...they build it.....or you buy the lot and build your own.....maybe, that's what they meant the only town that was actually creating a neighborhood,...???

BigBrownNativeAmerican ..... If you are Native, then you should know how being discriminated against makes you feel. Your Yankee statement just makes others see how stupid some people really are!! Not one single person can say that they made the decision as to where they were born!!! I'm from Ohio but married a man from Texas and I've been here almost 10 years now. I always heard of the so called Southern Hospitality.....but living here these past 10 years, I have never met soo many down right rude, judgmental and two faced people in my life!! I'm a female Army Veteran who suffered a broken neck and an internal decapitation and the locals are rude as heck to me!!! These old bitties talk about me like I'm a peace of crap! But everyone in this little town sure loves to say that they are Christian. Went to a Church once down here and everyone was Soo welcoming in church, hand shakes and hugs with everyone. Then afterwards...those same almighty Christians were flipping people off and cussing something awful...fighting to get out of the parking lot!! So much for these southern Christians. Furthmore, the last I heard Texas is part of the UNITED STATES.....I put my a** on the line for Every American, and not just for the Yankee's either!! You and your friend need to grow the hell up because every American is allowed to live anywhere they choose! Oh, btw... just a little FYI..... Not all "Yankee's," are from the "left," either!

My concern with TX is all the fracking and ruined water. I'd love to move there, but the fracking and oil pipelines make it a no go for me! Even the Republicans are suing the Oil Pipeline companies! Spur, TX may be tiny house friendly, but not ecologically friendly. If you can't drink the water, it's just another FLINT, MI
@MissAstorDancer7 жыл бұрын
Well, I'm in Midland, TX, and there is a LOT more oil production surrounding us here, that there is around Spur. Our water here is consistently awful, with notices in our bills several times a year about the water quality failing to meet safety standards. The crowding and the crime here is such, that I am starting to think much more seriously about places like Spur.
