Made me smile there Rik. BSA bullet with cow horns and knobby tires. Happy days. Not convinced about the beer kit though. Cheers

The instructions were to add the hops with the yeast? wow this is a new one on me, like a NEIPA only a day before! I'll watch the rest of the video now, just had to pause and hold on to the table when I saw you put those in.

I agree but wanted to follow the instructions ( and hold back on my brewing instinct) to give it a honest fair review 👍🏼🍻
@BigBananaBrewing2 жыл бұрын
that is a disappointment. I reckon if you dryhopped instead, that kit would have turned out better. I brewed a one can Coopers Euro lager kit recently and the intention was to brew exactly per instructions, leave for 3 months then review alongside a selection of commercial beers. Tasted it last week and its weird. Early days though so cant chuck it yet 😂

Very timely for me and on point Rick! I was about to buy a kit as I am out of stock and struggling to get time for a proper ag brew day between diy and nappy changing! I was about to buy a mangrove jacks grapefruit ipa kit as I had a sample from a guy from Boston who I was buying a keg from and it was pretty good, but I have done a sharp u turn and ordered the muntons hazy ipa as recommended by yourself in these comments! I'm looking forward to it and really hoping the extra £7ish over a normal kit leads to none of the dreaded homebred twang! Cheers for your invaluable advice and recommendations! 👍🏻

I remember brewing this when I was brewing kits, and I did for the most part enjoy it. The one downside for me was that most of my bottles ended up with quote a bit of hop matter at the bottom of them, as I had no means of separating the hop matter. One other regret I have is not being able to compare my version with the real thing. I also agree with you in that you can tell the difference between a kit beer and an all grain. Although I no longer have the equipment to do so, I think if I was to brew a kit beer and an all grain equivalent, I'd be able to pick out the differences between the 2, and find the resulting beers disappointing when compared to all grains. Good video as always mate. Cheers 🍻

Yeah I’m done with kits, those two coopers I did both came out harsh and undrinkable . And the price I pay I wasn’t going to chuck out their yeast and rebuy better, cheers!

Okay brewed it twice over the years and first time round it was too hoppy for me....second time I halved the hops and preferred it......it was the first of the new / craft type breweries to do the kit.... Now on the serious side... Chopper not for me , I had a puch styer 5 speed that was the one to really get.......hahaha ..... good old days...

What would you say are the best extract kits around at the moment? I recently did the Mangrove Jack's Kveik and thought that was decent! Munton's Hazy sounds good as well!

i found it to bitter when i made it
@steveparker20902 жыл бұрын
Two things that caught my attention. Firstly you mention the Columbus hops in at the start and then the citra in after 4 days. Did you actually do it in that order as you’re meant to put one of each in at the start and then one of each on day 4. Secondly when you added the first lot of hops you did it after you’d filled the fermenter up with all the water. Again they’re meant to be added to 2 litres of boiling water. Not sure how much effect that would have on the end product but could be why you didn’t enjoy it as much.
@BrewabitRick2 жыл бұрын
O interesting it didn’t mention any of that in the instructions I don’t think ? I could be wrong on the hop additions I don’t have them anymore but read them just before I did the brewing video. It definitely didn’t mention anything about steeping hops before putting them in I’m positive. Obviously putting the Columbus in all at once would have a impact maybe on bitterness but I’m sure it wouldn’t make that much difference in 4 days ? My only problem with the kit was the malt extract taste that the hops wouldn’t have impacted on to be fair. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🍻
@steveparker20902 жыл бұрын
@@BrewabitRick good vids I always enjoy watching them. Yeah I’m not sure if it would impact too much. I did that kit a couple of years back and bought a can of the real thing to do a taste test and they tasted nothing alike. I know what you mean about the extract taste.

Agree with Steve, when I did this kit the instructions were to steep the first two hop packets in with the hot water before adding the malt extract in and making up the kit as usual. This would serve similar purpose as a flameout addition in an all grain. Mine didn't clear either, ended up using finings on it to get it somewhere near. Good beer though, quite bitter but having sampled the real thing on cask, that too has a fairly high bitterness. As you say though, once you know what tinned malt extract tastes like...
