For real. Some people can't hit a target at 10' with the 22lr or magnum models either. Some people have made "press on" sights for them to aim, because some people can't hit the broad side of a barn with them.

I can see where keyholing might cost some accuracy and penetration on one hand, but with the projectile turning end over end, at least at a short distance, might help create a bigger would channel, meaning that in some cases keyholing might not be such a bad thing. And remember, in 1857 when the 22 short round was first released, it was intended for self defense

Going through the first board was a sure thing, and i guessed the second board would probably stop it...that is enough power to kill someone with a perfect shot...i was very impressed the keyhole bullet went through the board, and the following shot went further, it shows that while keyholing is bad, it can still be effective at extremely close range...i was also impressed with your accuracy hitting that steel...another great video...!!
@deucedeuce1572
@deucedeuce1572 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, keyholing with a 22 short really is bad. Although I don't knock 22 short as an effective self defense round, it really is barely lethal and something like keyholing destroying its ability to penetrate can really make a big difference. The same is true with 22lr. (Like with 22lr, expanding HP rounds from a rifle don't penetrate enough to be lethal... but if they're fired from a handgun and don't expand, they have plenty penetration to be lethal). For that reason I would never use 22lr hollow points for self defense (or at all if I can help it). It's tough though, because many of the hottest, most reliable 22lr rounds are HP.
@PetuniaIii-pd1ww
@PetuniaIii-pd1ww Жыл бұрын
@@deucedeuce1572 that is why i used "...A perfect shot..." .22 short is very limited, and .22lr/wmr not much better, but somebody out there depending on it...heck, we carry .22wmr often, eight revolver rounds beats nothing...a lot depends on where we are, in our case a relatively quiet place...if we lived in the 'hood we'd upgrade...we do own a .22lr model of the gun, loaded with velocitors when rarely carried...these are not gun fighting guns, but stuck up bad guy's nose should work...barrel end to skin range doesn't allow too much keyholing, although better to avoid the situation to begin with...

On your pine board set up. I have a simple suggestion. You have a board youre using as a clamping extension. A sort of bracket board. If you lay a coarse cloth like a larg rag or small towel on that board and staple it down it should provide a good surface to sort of shim out the differences in hight of the strike face boards which would help keep them in place during impacts. That said there is much to be learned from them freely moving as well. Anyway just something to think about.

1:35 S&W's 1941 catalog listed pine board data for guns and cartridges. so the "standard" is quoted as a 1/2", 3/4" 7/8" or 1" soft pine board that could be penetrated by 60 foot pounds ft-lbs of kinetic energy from some small pistol round that had been lethal so any bullet with 60 ft-lbs was "considered to be" "capable of producing" a "casualty " BUT The fallacy of the pine-board penetration died after a shrapnel ball explosive was accidentally detonated at close range of a close group of observers & then all had a few bruises BUT nothing had penetrated clothing BUT this grenade had past a penetration test of MANY pine boards from old growth lumber not like whats sold today from tree farms

The foot pounds of energy that this piece is putting out with the .22 short rounds is about like what the Hatsan 135 QE .25 caliber break barrel air rifle I used to own was putting out when shooting H&N 30.8 grain baracuda pellets. Both are putting out between 25 and 30 foot pounds of energy on average and my air rifle would put one of those pellets through a 1x4 pine wood board from about 20 yards away and it would go deep into a second 1x4 pine wood board behind it as long as I didn’t hit a knot. It would also penetrate through 3/4 of an inch thick plywood and go through 2 thin plastic gallon water jugs and enter a third one

The second board on was to loose, you moved them with just your hand , so some force was lost in moving a loose pine board. I have heard that undercover types have loaded this gun with .22 long rounds by shaving off the tops of the rounds, to get a bit more powder from the longer round...You could blow up your gun however. Just go with the .22 LR version for power and a vast selection of bullet types...
