Kei cars, trucks, and all types of vans are very popular here in Australia, and we can get them new, we don’t have to wait a stupid amount of time like in the US. I have a Toyota 4 wheel drive kei truck and a Honda S660 kei, which is an incredible, but small, sports car that really moves. The Toyota kei truck is the perfect vehicle for the farm I live on, as well as being perfect for city driving because it’s so easy to maneuver and park. One thing that really makes kei vehicles so great is the build quality: these vehicles are incredibly well made, extremely reliable, don’t cost as much as larger cars, and don’t cost much to maintain. Many of them are designed to be easy to work on, and you don’t have to be a master mechanic to do a lot of the work yourself.

For 90% of the daily trips taken in US cities and suburbs, a KEI car/truck/van is more than enough. But as Real 'Muricans, we need bigger!! How many F150s/250s do you see with ONE person inside? If you're hauling stuff ok. But we know that the majority of these trucks never do any duty other than Mall duty. That's why I love these little trucks. Cheap to buy. Cheap to run. And tons of fun. Cheers

I’d take that $4.5k one for a local run-about to do most of my in-town stuff and have an easier time with parking and traffic. I paid more for a maxi-scooter with the same road speeds that can’t carry as much or deal with in-climate weather; on top of that, having enough room in the back to take a nap is invaluable.

I've got a little Suzuki pick up that I purchased from an importer five or six years ago, they make a little turbo conversion kit for it and I think I'm gonna put it on there because it's pretty underpowered when you get it in the mud. The ones that I purchased literally only had about 3000 miles on it so it's basically brand new I've put about 1000 miles on it Free. It's got that little fold down bed that I put my welding machine on for just work around the ranch

Here in Australia kei cars have been popular for a long time, and lots of people tweak the engines for more power, or they put in more powerful engines. One thing to keep in mind when driving a kei car is, because they’re small, it makes you feel like you’re going much faster than you actually are. If you’ve ever driven an old Mini you know the feeling.

Back to the car, having had an original Austin Mini RHD among other tiny vehicles at 6'2 200 tho I do love BIG Cushy cars or Fast cars too. Cute dainty cars can certainly be fun, even for guys w/a bit more Cushion then Dainty one in the back.

@@rockin86ranger Kei regulations doesn't limit the hp, it's a gentleman's agreement between kei manufacturers to not go over 64 hp. Only the engine capacity is actually regulated (no more than 660cc). As well as the speed limit (140 km/h = 87.5 mph ).

To own one of these you need to be reasonably mechanically inclined and a DIY person. I have seen a few body shops refuse to repair these after an accident for one reason or another. Then you have the crash safety issues, I would drive around in it myself but would not let the wife or my adult kids to operate it.
