Just a recommendation after u drain the wash water spin the clothes in the spin dryer, then put them back in the washer and add the clean water that way u make sure there isn't dirty water left over from the wash.

I use a 5 gallon bucket and a plunger, and I use a commercial mop bucket with the mop squeezer during rinse. I find if I spin, squeeze etc between rinses, I use a lot less water. Also learned when I fill bucket, add soap and water, plunge a few (maybe 5 or ten times) and let the "machine" just sit there for 5 or ten minutes, then come back and plunge a few more times before rinsing, I get a clean wash without all that physical labor.

I think the plunger and an old fashioned wringer securely attached to a substantial bucket would do the job well. Worked for my grandparents on the ranch for many years (although Grandma used a scrub board---and probably lye soap) but with air drying the clothes smelled like flowers, alfalfa, and clover.

Tina Alicia I agree I've done that many many time's!!!!!!!!!! I know alot of people that say they would never do tub/sink laundry because it won't get them clean & granted it's not going to get them extremely clean but it know what your doing then there's not gonna be any issues!😉

ƎVOLUTIONATED the sink and a wringer work well. It’s pushing the water with the dirt out. That’s what the spin cycle is supposed to do. Which is why you also can opt for 2 rinse cycles. Start with 3/4 less soap and you will get a lot of the “dirt” gone.

I lived in Mexico for about two years and know what it's like to wash clothes by hand. It can be tedious! Still, after watching the video I think I'd just wash the clothes in the sink (or shower) and only buy the spinner dryer so I didn't have to spend forever wringing the clothes out.

I used a washer like this one, a Wonderwash, for over 15 years. There are some tricks to make it a lot more efficient and easier also. First, use less soap than they tell you. Soap just has to break the surface tension, if you have suds, you have all the soap you need. Second and most important, fill that washer up with clothes. Don't pack them but fill it to the top. Lastly, spin it a bit faster than they say, you will tell when you have a good balance between the agitation and the effort you need to put into it. If you do it this way it can be done with one hand. You will get more done easier if you give this a try. I have an electric spinner that works fine. I hand wrung things for the first few years. That was a bit of a chore but it did work. I would suggest you hand wring out everything before you put it in any spinner, no sense putting all that water in there and weight. I hope you try these things, any questions please feel free to ask.

I hope you give my suggestions a try, it really will make it work better for you. :-) Oh and in answer to what some have said, filling this washer up will let you do almost half a typical load at once. Tip for drying pants: save those hangers that have clips on them that come with the pants at the store. Hang your very wet pants outside, upside down, with the seams together so you get a nice line on your slacks, just like you ironed them. The kids sized hanger are perfect to hold the bottoms of your pants. The weight of the top of your wet pants, pulls the wrinkles out the bottom, while hanging to dry. Tips for t-shirts and shirts: Use those hangers that are extra long, so you don't get any hanger bumps on your shirts. Button up your shirts to the top, so they dry with a nice shape. Use office clips as weights on the cuffs of your long sleeve shirts to keep them drying flat, looking like they were creased, and with few to no wrinkles. Can you tell that I hate ironing?

These washing machines are wonderful! You used too much soap and cold water. I've had this type of machine for about 20 years. We use it when camping. For the wash cycle, we use "Janie's BEST Laundry Detergent Recipe" home made detergent and fill the machine a little more than halfway up with hot water. Using hot water will pressurize the wash and help loosen dirt. Rinse twice. Great video!

I have this "portable washer/spinner Called an ecospin in Australia, and i had much more water than you did and a lot more clothes in it, and it washed and rinsed beautifully! you have to remember that the water rises in the machine when you are rotating the spindle so therefore it is reaching your items on top, no need to take any clothes out! you could have washed even more than you had, I did!!

There are 4 things you need for effective cleaning: Time Temperature Chemical action Friction, Think of them as 4 sections of a clock, if you reduce one, you have to increase another to get the same standard of cleaning. For example if you reduce the heat you have to increase one or more of the remainder, parameters to make up for it.

If you use the spin dryer as a washer its better to spin dry right after wash then rinse. Spin out soapy dirty water 1st then it will rise cleaner the first time w/o needing a 2nd rinse; thus less water & one less step.

You know you will have much cleaner clothes if you buy yourself a plastic barrel turning composted. You can plug the few air holes and then just tumble away. The ribs inside the composter help move the clothes instead of centrical force just plastering them against the sides. You can do way more in it.

Actually for the spin dryer, or portable washing machine, a rule for hand washing is often soaking the clothes in water with detergent. After the agitation just leave the thing as it is for 10 - 30 minute or just go for some snack or tea. It will save a lot of effort since you will just need to rinse the detergent clean and spin dry. For hand drying using high absorption sponge/ towel and roll them up with the clothes you twisting, the high absorption will transfer a lot of water that is pretty hard to twist otherwise, after which it is easier twisting those sponge/ towel dry. Clothes twisted dry this way wont even drip.

I think it would be easier, cheaper, and more space-saving to just fill up your sink with hot water and stir your clothes around to wash them. :) They do make small portable washers (I have a Black & Desker one) that you can store in your shower or under a counter or where ever and just wheel it out when you want to use it. They do require electricity but they're low-power and just plug into a normal outlet. And they make mini dryers that can actually be hung on a wall or where ever you want too. Tho the portable washers often spin-dry the clothes after washing so you don't really need a dryer if you're willing to hand-dry your clothes. :)

Thanks for the demo, this has been helpful. I feel like no one ever thinks about reusing the water, either keep the rinse water to rinse out the loads you are washing that day, then use it to wash with once it's gotten too much soap in it to rinse suds out any longer. Consumer washing machines used to have a Suds Saver feature where it emptied the drum into a utility sink via a hose. People would do this regularly to save on water bills, or if they used a well for water. People can also check out the cleaningh routine for dcloth diapers and modify it to suit your cleaning needs for clothing. Break the process down into steps with soak times and build it into your day rather than punishing yourself churning away at a machine for half an hour for one man sized outfit. People have been struggling with laundry ever since civilisation started, it hasn't been all laundromats.

Tiny House Expedition It depends on how long it takes to do the alternative. If it’s an hours drive and you have to not only wait, but pay to use a machine that literally thousands of others have used, then a small bucket and plunger may be a better and easier option. The thought of all those dirty clothes from people I don’t know, in machines that are probably crawling with bacteria always makes me itch.

I live in the Philippines and the salad spinner washer worked so well as a makeshift spin dryer. For the washing itself, I just have two basins, fill the basin with water and some liquid detergent, whites first, the colored delicates, color shirts and cotton shorts, and heavy laundry. I washed it by hand and with the help of those gloves that has some ribbing to it. Rinse by hand 2 or 3 times and spin dry on that salad spinner washer. That was my laundry routine after a Cat 5 typhoon struck us in late 2021 and also in 2013. I also have a deep well water source for emergency situations like this as even water piping system in the city incurred damages from those catastrophic storms.

My preferred method: electric spinner for literally a couple minutes (tiny electricity use, and clothes come out almost dry) > put shirts directly on hangers to finish drying (super fast because so much water is already removed) > move to closet. So easy! Also, tumble washers like the Avalon or Wonder Wash actually work BETTER with more clothes than in this demo so they can agitate against each other. That means sometimes an entire week of my ultra-minimalist laundry can fit in one load! (Mostly thin tees and undies since I wear slip-on shoes without socks and prefer to re-wear outer layers if they're not stinky or dirty.) I especially like that I can let heavily soiled items soak, which is not an option when using standard washers in shared facilities. (This also allows a break from having to crank continuously. ; - ) I wish I had invested in my own laundry machines years ago since it is such a game changer not to have to use the often broken or in-use facilities at my apartment complex or schlep to the laundromat! Next step: dishwasher!!! 🤩

9:20 I still do the SAME thing sometimes with my portable washer (electric) - forget to put the hose back UP so it doesn't just pour the water back out! 11:40 You still didn't add enough water to the washer/spinner. The water should be covering the clothes. Without enough water, the clothes will not agitate properly.

Just a note here....When using the salad spinner type washer, if you are washing the clothes you don't put the basket inside. The basket is put inside just for spinning the clothes to dry them. There is a separate agitator to use in it for washing the clothes. That might make a difference on how well it washes the clothes.

That’s a lot of water isn’t it? My full size Samsung uses about that for a 10kg load. Most modern washing machines decycle water through the programme. Currently in the uk we have a drought situation developing so it’s worth noting. You don’t need agitation with washing detergent as they work by reducing water surface tension (surfactant action). Soap works by agitation, By the time you’ve used that salad spinner the c,others you’re wearing are no doubt sweaty and need washing lol.

When washing with a salad spinner, the agitation is from changing direction of the spin not the spin itself so you don't push the handle through a full turn before reversing the direction. It's often best to just open the spinner and agitate the clothes by hand. Just spinning does nothing to washing the clothes. Also, you want to wash a lot longer, 15 to 30 minutes or even more which makes these hand powered devices just too tiring to use. Look for ones with an electric motor or a foot pump mechanism. The small capacities means multiple loads so it's a good idea to save the soap water and the first rinse water for reuse especially if you are van living where water conservation is an issue. Spin drying between wash and rinse is a good idea as well as between rinses.

The spinner looks cool........not sure about the washer. There was another washer/spinner a few years back that had a pedal, you could just pump the pedal with your foot and it would wash/spin. Either way I'm glad we have alternatives to laundromats or being forced to use huge machines for small loads.

Sadly doesn’t seem to help much with grassy debris stuck to socks lol. Might be cool to build a flip down table top to connect to exterior of tiny house, and install a clipping base to attach the spinner to. Easier to handle the off balanced spinner

It was fun watching you try these out! I'd love to win them! I'd love to use them at my off-grid tiny house that I'm planning to build. Thanks for the demo and info on these contraptions. Very helpful info.

That sounds absolutely ghastly 🤔 , almost illegal to me. Doesn't the Health and Welfare Department carry out annual inspections and interviews? I'm getting very old now; terrified of being locked up with hundreds of elderly people who can't wash their clothes. Thank you for helping me to procrastinate for a few more years.

We absolutely could use and need the spinner! Our washing machine broke where there is no agitation. We went online to buy this spinner and they are sold out! I hope you did not give it away, yet. Otherwise, we must keep on searching. Great video! How do I know if you still have it available to give away?

If you notice that a washing machine does not agitate like that. It goes clockwise one turn and then back counterclockwise one full turn then back again. The Washing machine does not continue as you did. That is why it did not clean the way you thought it might clean. I hope this helps.

I have been doing all of my laundry in the laundry pod ( which is similar to the one they’re using) to me it’s worth it because first I soon the clothes for about 15 seconds, then soak the clothes for about 40 minutes, then I spin it periodically off and on in between chores, I then press the clothes against the sink and rinse in the laundry pod with clean water, once the rinse water has drained I spin fast for about a minute. Then hang. The clothes come out moist but not dripping, it saves my clothes from being ruined from twisting and they come out cleaner than in a washing machine. It’s a breeze if you use it properly

I've found the dryer on ebay, but there appears to be two different versions. They do a washer and dryer version that has two handles on top, and an agitator insider similar to household top loader washing machines.

Just brainstorming, but maybe if the manufacturer of the dryer put a basket with a center agitator in it. Of course I don't know if the basket lifts out or what. Of course I'm still watching as I type this

I have the pink version of the salad spinner...I mean washer/dryer from a different company and I have the same issue. Water everywhere. I didn't get a max fill line on mine and no directions. When I contacted the company for help they told me it was all my fault and that I was using it wrong. I was told it's only for socks, underwear and baby clothes. You obviously proved that is not the case.
