I hope you all enjoy this simple block with a twist on the construction! This net piecing/extreme chain piecing is a really handy skill to have to keep all your seams nicely nested! Honestly, this looks more stable than ironing and piecing, both at the corners and for the overall size of the finished block. Thanks for the tip!

This is how I make my blocks and quilts all the time. I love it because nothing gets turned around or put in the wrong place. Works great for webbing an entire quilt block. First saw this done by Eleanor Burns and more recent, Bonnie Hunter. Glad to see you showing it to more people! Love your channel!

I learned last year to stitch line on the left side of the first column and that keeps the chain from twisting. Love your videos. Thanks for this one.

I stumbled on this video and really enjoyed it. I've used this method before when doing the same peicing over and over. Thanks for sharing and reminding me of this technique. I look forward to other videos!

This gives me a better method of assembling an Irish Chain quilt with 1" blocks. I had been hand piecing the squares; but I worry that it isn't as strong as machine stitching. Yet I like to swirl the seams. Your method does everything I want! Thank you!

1" blocks!!! You are so brave!! That sounds like an amazing quilt though--I love Irish Chains!

I've been doing a series on some classic blocks--resizing them to make the most of modern precuts and giving some construction tips :). I think we are 4ish blocks in now? In a few more blocks, I'll also do a video on how to assemble different size blocks together into a sampler style top.

This is the best chain piecing tutorial I’ve seen. I’m new to quilting. I’ve wanted to try chain piecing but have been too intimidated by the process. Sure anyone can piece the first row. Thank you for going through the whole process. I’ll have your video queued up right next to my sewing machine for the next project!

Thank you so much!! How exciting to be a new quilter!! Its definitely a hobby I feel into pretty deep 😂 Chain piecing is definitely worth learning--even if you don't do the extreme net piecing version! It saves a lot of time to not be cutting your thread between every seam :)

I have tried to piece blocks once or twice using this kind of method and easily got frustrated with things flopping around, so I figured it was just too fiddly for me. However, watching your walk-through has made me want to try it again. I think starting with a sixteen patch block is brilliant. I feel like I could keep track of the orientation enough to actually learn the skill and benefit from it. Thank you!
@TinyOrchardQuilts4 жыл бұрын
A 16 or 9 patch would be a great place to start--I think it would be overwhelming to do for the first time with an entire quilt. Once you get past those first few blocks where things twist around, it gets much easier! :)

Hey Megan, Thank you for this video. 👏 Wow, it took me quite a while to get this webbing technique down last year.. eventually I got the hang of it an I find it helpful. I enjoy seeing what you will come up with each week. Thank you so much, your work is impeccable 💖👍💜 Mine is getting much better as I continue my journey. Have a good week, 💖 Chris-Raleigh NC

Chain piecing is awesome! Even if you don't go the full net piecing route, chain piecing columns together can save you a lot of time!

I do this too but I have the addition of the 3 pin method which is super helpful to stack your blocks in order before sewing.

Hi Megan, Just love all of your videos.Do you do quilt as you go quilts? If not why. I would like to see something on cutting yardage. I have bought lots of fabric in stores that cut off a bolt and it seems daunting to cut into it not sure where to start.
@TinyOrchardQuilts4 жыл бұрын
I've done a few quilt as you go quilts just personally but the only quilt as you go I've done for a video were some little coasters from scraps. I do have a few yardage projects in the works though! :)

I really enjoy your videos! This one is something I have been looking for - I figured there had to be a better way - and there it was - right at your sewing machine!! =)) By the way - I really love your red lipstick.....very few people in my opinion can wear true red and look good - but yours is really gorgeous!

Thank you!! I started wearing red years ago because my son liked it and I’ve worn it on and off :) it’s always so much fun though :)

I absolutely love this! But may I ask if you can supply what the squares would need to be for a 16” block? So many color ways to do this I’m super excited!
@badwolf544 жыл бұрын
Patricia Hildebrand 4x4=16, so you would cut (16) 4 1/2 inch pieces to yield a 16 inch finished block.

Exactly! Thanks for answering so quickly :)

Would it be easier to sew a strip of each color then cut and sew together?
@TinyOrchardQuilts4 жыл бұрын
Strip piecing? It is certainly a great method to use and you could definitely use it for a block like this! I chose to start with the squares to demonstrate the net piecing but if I were making a bunch of blocks like this for a quilt, I would probably strip piece them to save time :)
@denisestilling28104 жыл бұрын
Ditto on this thought....enjoy strip piecing, cut then chain piecing the assembly.
@winningnumbers Жыл бұрын
Sew two strips together, subcut. much easier.
