I'm a grandmother now and I recall my grandmother doing this fun stitch. I plan on trying it on a baby blanket. 😊

Perfect timing. I am sitting here repairing a quilt i made in the early 80s thinking not many people do binding by hand anymore but i do 😅 and you do too. Love it. I really like your finish work on the binding. A Very adorable touch. Like a signature.

What a nice finishing touch. It really makes this look like a lot of hand work and attention has been made to your quilt. Thank you for sharing your work.

I love chunky thread. I have a couple of quilt tops to finish and this inspires me to follow your example. Thanks Megan.

The question I always have about big stitch binding is how does it hold up over time and with quilt that gets used. I haven't seen anyone posting that their's has come undone, so I assume it does okay, but it I've popped a lot of quilting stitches in my time (mainly on hand quilted quilts that my grandma made), so I think I'm a little wary of hand stitching on well used objects.
@TinyOrchardQuilts2 жыл бұрын
I hand stitch all my bindings and haven’t had many problems at all. This big stitch is definitely more subject to wear though. I probably wouldn’t do it on a quilt I was handing over to a kid. But I have several that have been washed a few dozen times and are still ok!
@theclumsychord2 жыл бұрын
@@TinyOrchardQuilts I hand stitch all my bindings too... I think it's just the big-stitch ones I worry about. They do look pretty though, don't they?
@kathyclayton43182 жыл бұрын
I do love how this looks! But I have found that my hand sewn binding does not hold up like machine stitching does. If a quilt is going to used and laundered as in a baby quilt or on a kids bed, hand stitching of the binding will not hold up under that much use. This might be ok for me maybe on a wall hanging or something decorative but then it’s on the back and no one sees how cute it looks. Wonder what it would look like making the Xes on the front. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing, Megan! This is a really cute look.
@TinyOrchardQuilts2 жыл бұрын
I don’t know that this big stitch binding style will hold up long term under serious wear since the stitches are so long. I do, however, think hand binding generally holds up fine. My quilts have been washed heavily (they all went through the potty training phase even!) for many years and I’ve only had one binding come undone and it was on one of my very first quilts.
@lizziedae912 жыл бұрын
My hand sewing (binding and otherwise) always holds up fine to heavy use and washing. It will depend on thread choice and how close together your stitches are.
@shelley71472 жыл бұрын
What a great idea! I love it!! 💕 will it hold up as good wash after wash?
@TinyOrchardQuilts2 жыл бұрын
I probably wouldn't put any big stitch binding on a quilt I know will get super heavy wear (like a toddler blanket) but this quilt I fully intend to wash in the machine! I have other quilts I've done big stitch binding on several years ago and they've held up just well with family (and dog) use and machine washing :)
