Thanks for making the point about iaido. I'm studying both Eishin ryu and kendo (still a beginner in both) and sometimes it feels weird having to switch between iai furikaburi and kendo furikaburi. Once again, great video!

This is an amazing video. I will participate in my first competition as a beginner this Saturday and I wthey wil be grading my suburis. This is quite helpful, I really appreciate the detailed explanation!

Thank you so much for the details of why and how to do correct suburi. I will know what to focus on next time when I do this in practice next time.

Yes, a couple of people in the club I instruct at had trouble reaching and tensing too much. They attribute it to this analogy.

Great video, I love the footwork details; such things help with no instructor.

@uthna Ok, thanks for the feedback, we will remember it for future. It could fit in nicely as one of our extra videos such as the 'Seika Tanden' video coming soon.

Thx again for this good video. I liked the idea to let show 2 people the exercise. The showing one from the side and one from the front was really instructive. (i hope i choese the right word from the google translater for the german word "aufschlussreich")

Really liked the video. I dont have a kendo place anywhere near me but would like to get some of the basic stuff down. Was actually wanting to start working on exercises like this so it should help a lot.

@jackchn Yep they are. These girls are beginners so they definitely are not doing it perfectly. But we figured it would be good for people to use as a reference.

Good question, try asking on the forums (link in description), otherwise keep your ear to the ground for kendo QnA which is coming later in 2013. Sorry I couldnt answer your question more adequately but I think they are one in the same, ie a dichotomy. Thanks Taylor

@mikhaeldito i am no dan holder, i am very interested in tenouchi tips too what i gathered during 2 year of iaito and bokuto swinging is it's easier when your hands are closer together, it comes naturally when you try to stop the sword's downward motion you grip at the last moment keeping fingers relaxed before that, with shinai you may add a push(front hand) pull(rearhand) for more friction... to prevent injury you should let gravity pull the sword down until you develop tenouchi

Your Tips are always helpful, and very good footage for everyone! ...but I notice there are very rare instruction vids adressed to intermediate skill levels on the internet. I really miss some good guides, for people between 2.Kyu to 2.Dan. Maybe you can build up s.th in the future, "guides for grades" and become the No.1 KZbin Kendo guru.^^

@KUMASANanimation Thanks, a lot of sword arts can be very different, you just need to remember to think Kendo at Kendo and Iaido at Iaido. :)

Can someone explain the difference between 素振り suburi and 空間打突 kukandatotsu? I understand Japanese but not the distinction as used by kendoka. The zennippon renmei video treats these as separate forms of practice, but pretty much every video I see like this one treats suburi as kukandatotsu. Are all swings imagined strikes or are some exercises to cultivate physical coordination and speed through repetitive swinging?

Its tough to say without looking at it so perhaps your seniors are right? Have you checked in a mirror to make sure that its not just that it looks right from a POV perspective?

I've been doing the suburi like what you shown in this video. However, the seniors in my dojo said that I have to extend my arms more just like doing shomenuchi. I don't really agree with their view since extending the arms will make my movement stiff (perhaps i was overextending my arms?). But, what do you think about this, sensei?

when the girls strike their kensaki is too high. It should be eye level. That will compromise the whole form.
