I just commented on your 2/22/23 video way off-topic, you were talking about nosebands and I was talking about rein chains. And all of a sudden I stumbled upon this video. I love riding in rein chains, I am the only one I know that does. My horse was trained to be ridden in a spade bit. But since I spent my money on the horse I never got a spade bit. I do use a Sliester bit with a roller and we get around just fine.

Can you explain what and how weighted leather reins work? I think it might compliment this video well. Thanks in advance…

Weighted leather split reins take the slack out of your hands when working at high speeds. I dont happen to care for them because I ride lots of colts and find myself wrestling the reins but they do work well for the guys in the show pen.

How do you connect the romals to the bit without the chains?

At some point could you explain the proper use of the romel as a tool in training a bridle horse?

Hey Bret! In the video you mentioned using chains to make a “true blue spade bit bridle horse.” What is the difference between true blue made by wearing chains and the Bridle horse that is trained in the bridle w/o chains?
@HorsemanshipAsAnArt Жыл бұрын
If you are not using chains the bit looses some feel and signal. The horse learns to get in the cadence of the swinging of the chains and learn to feel the rider better through the chains. Riding without chains the horse can't feel the emotions of the rider as well. I was watching a good friend the other day that has a really nice bridle horse that he cowboys on and shows in big nrcha events. She was cutting out of the herd and knew those rein chains so well that she would close her eye a fraction of a second before the chain hit her. A big time bridle horse learns amazing things from chains. They can darn sure be trained without them but a horse trained with chains feels different.

@@HorsemanshipAsAnArt thank you for taking the time answer, I know it must be taxing. Id like to say that back to make sure I understand. Using chains enables an emotional connection between horse and rider created by the subtlety of the signal. Follow up question: how do you determine optimal length and weight of the chains? How much time does it add to the training of a finished bridle horse? BTW I purchased your book. Haven’t finished it yet but I think you’ve created something that will transcend generations. It’s on par with Ray Hunts book, “Thinking Harmony with Horses.” Can’t wait to read the next two.

@@lazarooliva5555 Im sure glad you like the book. Still trudging away a the next two. Thank you so much for the kind words. I will have to think about the weight and length for a min

A thought ? Signal / Presignal , contact / contact , feel / communication .... at times humans get caught up in the conversation for the sake of the conversation / terms / words.... It doesn't matter what we call it to the horse or other person ......results , understanding , what accomplishes intended outcome. ! Step by Step Breath by Breath thought by thought..... I think that the original purpose of rein chains was so that the enemy could not cut your reins and leave you with no control of your warhorse as you rode into battle.

iv heard that. True or not I dont know but it sounds good.
