as a rough guess, the pancakes look too narrow to allow a smooth air-flow into the carb.

Could well be

Original works best. Also doesn't the standard air cleaner assembly act as a flame arrestor in case of a backfire through the carb. Becca (Passenger Seat Podcast) had a backfire and I noticed her Morris Minor had an aftermarket air filter. She actually had a fire in the engine compartment which did some damage. I may be wrong about this but there's probably a good reason for all that sheet metal around the filter. More than just fire. Enjoyed your podcast and will keep an eye out for more.

Yep far better than pancakes a lot of people only swap because of looks ! Thanks for sharing your thoughts

Reduced air flow .. "could well be" Pamcake filters....1/4 the surface area of the stock air filter... could well be.

Think you’re right!!

I've read countless facebook and forum posts that the best air filters are those which were actually designed for the car. Regarding the servo, mine developed a vaccum leak, so I simply disconnected it and can't say I have noticed any brake performance degradation.

I’m convinced my mark one never originally got the servo it’s an add on I’ve inherited, along with the pancakes , I could have plumbed the brakes without the servo then no need to cut the original canisters Thanks for your interest in the video please like or subscribe if you haven’t already iconic Brands

@@IconicBrands123My '67 Mk1 is unboosted and has great brakes, if your booster ever dies, you're probably better off reverting to the original brake setup and welding the bit you cut off the intake tube back on! The washer bottle is meant to sit where the booster is anyway.

@@moo_aus The car was already fitted with the booster all be it the other way around you may well be right! It’s great to hear from you!

That's odd. I'd never think a responsible manufacturer would have a brake fluid reservoir angled so fluid rests against the filler cover. That's nuts and dangerous. Can't air get into the system that way? Which MGBs had this? I'm guessing only RHD cars ??? Also, I don't like those pancakes filters. They're restrictive because they don't have enough filter surface area (the much deeper aftermarket ones do). And they draw in hot air due to their proximity to the exhaust manifold. I run the originals for four reasonsas: 1) They are not restrictive and use filters with large surface area. 2) Their snorkels allow only the cooler air to get in. 3) They balance the air to both carburetors because they are interconnected (not independent of each other). 4) They look great ! My '72 MGB has the stock air filter housings See it on Anthony hfe if anybody's interested. That's my KZbin channel.

Only answer I can think of is the fluid does take a very long time to leak trough and in car test facility this would not happen during the inspection period

Rubbish, I'm afraid. Large K&Ns with matching needles will perform far better than OEM. Try running a marathon with thick cloth over your mouth. !
@IconicBrands1238 ай бұрын
With matching needles yes I agree however as I say in this video with original carb settings original cans are best proven by a mile What you are suggesting is the same as saying you could drop a supercharger in it would go even better

Fair comment, ... My experience is that the B series loves cold air to breathe, which it won't get from the original cans which MG designed for reliable cold running, they pick up warm air from the exhaust. I have a cold air feed from the grille to the intakes.

@@user-bt6ch1xe1m True My MGB always ran better when the weather was cold which was a shame because I only used it in the summer lol 😂

@@IconicBrands123 right, we don't need to worry about carbs icing up. See Chris mgb gt 2.0 To see how a B can go, If you like.
