The large steps help which building power so if you can channel the power up when needed large steps are better. They only become a problem when the athlete doesn’t channel the power/ momentum up and continues to just “travel” in the leap/ jump. Thanks for this video!

A year late haha but I use to struggle with it aswell I'd advise you to strengthen your legs and hips , you probably don't have the strength to push up or maintain your amazing flexibility! Also try to work with loop bands or therabands and manyyy kicks with them! Haha anyway Goodluck!
