As someone who plays guitar and rarely does their nails, i have to be careful not to touch my hair/wash it when my callouses are chewed up from the strings or my nails are broken.. making sure your own hands are in a soft & smooth condition is important as well to avoid breakage which i never hear anyone mention because its probably not an issue for most people but i thought i'd throw it out there just in case :) great video, awesome tips!

I'd also like to add that nutrition plays a big role. When I was eating crappy , I had crappy hair that wouldn't grow. When I started eating a lot more fruits and vegetables, what a difference it made!

It really depends on genetics, I live in UK and most people in here have lushly hair. I don’t think English diet is focus much on fruits and veggies, if so it’s mostly baked or boiled vegetables which doesn’t provide much nutrients, yet they have one of the best hair I have ever seen. So to me genetics play huge role

You can definitely grow your hair even with color hair & heat tools. It's about using the proper products to protect your hair, Redken injection shampoo, leave in conditioner (Purelogy), heat protection cream for hair dryer, heat spray protection for hair straightener and hair oil to seal ends. Weekly hair Mask for hair as well. P.S this is coming from bad hair genetics, my mom's natural hair is fine and fried, mine is past my butt 🙂 it grows fast, it's just taking care of it and preventing your hair from losing its moisture

Could I please ask if your trying to grow your hair out do you need to get a trim? I use professional products, leave in condioner and oiling the ends. No heat, i have highlights I am growing out (done with colouring). Can I go a year or even more without cutting it? I kept noticing my hair dresser is making my hair shorter now so I don’t want to get a trim! But if I take care of my hair do I need to actually get trims?
@natmya243 Жыл бұрын
@@jodiepearce8675 Provided your hair is not breaking off at the ends or splitting up the hair shaft you can def go much longer between trims. I think a year is probably a stretch if your hair is damaged from the highlights. Most important thing is to find a hairdresser who will respect your wishes to grow it and only trim a small amount off. I get about half an inch cut off my bleached damaged hair every 3 months.

@@natmya243 thank you so much for this. My hair isn’t even split at the ends this is what I don’t understand why I got persuaded into a trim, after a week my hair goes back to how it was so I feel it gets worse of from letting someone cut. I use moroccon oil on the ends and I was highlighting my hair 2 X a year but I want to grow my hair out now. Also I don’t use heat, crazy tight hairstyles always lose and change so surely my hair won’t break if I’m leaving it alone and using good products? I won’t be getting a Trim for a long time

Hair sticks are a definite must for me! My hair pretty much grows long no matter what, but hair sticks are just so much more secure than the hair ties I used before and they cause very little breakage when used carefully. And also hair pins are way better than those nasty Bobby pins that rip out hairs when you take them out.

Cool. I realise I already do some of these things out of pure uninterest with my hair, and a tad of laziness, I guess. And I have always gotten comments about my hair being long, thick and nice. Guess I can notch things up a bit after this list of useful tips. From my own experience, the one single thing that has made the most difference during later years, is that I have changed brushes, so I totally support and subscribe to your tips about that. For most of my life I used the plastic ones with nobs on the pins. A few years ago, at a local market, I found handmade wooden brushes and bought one. It had wooden pins, still with the nobs on top, but they were so much smoother to the hair than the plastic ones. I think it's got a lot to do with electricity. My hair stopped being so tangled and electrically static. Then last year, being in a hurry and needing to detangle the hair when already on my way out of the front door, I used the cat's brush instead. We had a kitten with really long and thin hairs so we had a pretty expensive "showdog" brush for her. Being in a pinch, I borrowed that and was amazed at how easily it detangled the hair in a few brushes, without getting stuck. So I bought one for myself too. The pins are made of metal, but very smooth and without any distinct nobs on top of the pins. The ad for the brush actually said it was superb for detangling dog hairs for show dogs. Go figure... hahaha.

My hair is 2 c naturally wavy, low porosity, thick, and past my tailbone, i too only finger comb my hair because its kinda fine, i use a wooden brush, the shampoo and conditioner i use is the giavonni chic 50 50 clarify and moisture, i air dry it naturally, then put it in braids. The hair at the ends of my long braids, i lightly put a good cold pressed extea virgin olive oil on them, this has made a huge difference in my hair not breaking anymore, the olive oil gets soaked into my hair quickly and making it very moisturized and shiney. I never go out in the sun, or cold weather without a protective hair style. I don't use mousse, gels, leave in conditioner s, sprays or dry shampoo s. I believe a clean healthy scalp creates healthy hair. And it also comes from nutrition, i eat two tsp of olive oil a day, i eat gelatin, lots of fruits and veggies. And i stay away from sodas....water, water, water. I try to eat two poached eggs and a avocado every day

Your hair looks good. My grandparents had a few old towels that was a bit different, and I was told that when they where young, towels where not usually terry cloth, but a woven cotton and linen. They mangled bed linen and these towels and it all looked very clean and neat. I think you can still get these of you look for them especially. I should not really give any advice on long hair, you probably know more than me, but I have looked a few approaches to protect the hair. To protect against daily wear and tear, regular applications of oils, and conditioning ingredients like ceramides and keratin (a lot of shampoos and conditioners have them) can make a difference. They can prevent hair from getting brittle and porous. If you don't like plastic bottles, some hair products, come in glass dropper bottles. You are of course spot on, the longer the hair is, the older the ends will be, and it is all about protection, care and conditioning to keep it. I know some swear to only use boar bristle brushes and are gentle on the hair. Protection against sun might be a factor too. My cousin had manage to get her light blond hair (natural) to about tail bone lenght, and after a holiday in Spain, bathing in the sea and the strong sun there; when she came home it all broke off just below the shoulder blades, tears and sorrow). My sisters hair wasn't as thick and full as it used to be couple of years ago, after she started on iron and vitamin B supplent (a bloot test showed she low on them), it grew back. All kinds of things we easily ignore can make a difference.

Yes, your tips are great. I already used quite a few and know they are true. Not sure if you will give this tip, as I’m still listening and most of those tips I live by, but another tip is the way we sleep on our hair. I have mine up and not sleep on the length to prevent splitting and damaging of the length. I have never had the length I have now, which is at my back and that 5 year of growth, not cutting it any more. Yes, I’m usually in braids every day for years, but since recently, I just put a band ring around it to the end or just twist it. Of course I have it in those hospital surgery mesh. So hair can breath. I don’t use satin pillow case as they say that’s best, but satin makes me sweaty. Cotton/linen works for me and I change my pillow case daily.

What could I be doing wrong? Why won't it grow? Any tips for slightly wavy, fine hair? My dream is to have at least waist-length hair, but it seems like that will never come

I have long hair since I was 17 years old. I"m 53 now. I never brush when wet cause your hair stretches more when it's wet which makes it break more easily. I do not color my hair with dye only henna. The more vitamins you take the faster your hair grows.
@maria-212 Жыл бұрын
It’s either diet or genetics. If you are doing all of these things for your hair like braiding, masks etc, but your diet is poor (lack of vitamins in the food, processed food) than it just won’t be as effective. If your diet is good and you’re still doing all of those things for your hair, but it’s still not growing than most likely it’s genetics, especially if it’s grown extremely slowly your whole life. If it’s genetics, than unfortunately nothing can be really done.

I finger detangle first then use a boar bristle brush instead of conditioner. I've only been using the boar bristle brush for a few months because I had dreads for the past decade but it definitely doesn't break my hair like the plastic brushes and is good at distributing the natural oils from my scalp to the ends. Fantastic vid! My hair has gotten sooo dry since I'm perimenopausal. Sometimes I would wake up with a total birdsnest or more than one. If I shampoo, I come out of the shower that way and lose 20-50 strands. Now all I've been doing is putting oil in it. I was using coconut oil but I find sesame oil more effective; slightly thicker. I start at the bottom like you said and work it through. Sometimes it looks kind of oily or wet the first day but then the rest of the week it tends to rub off on the pillow and I just finger come and then tooth comb it without adding any oil and it looks fairly normal. A lot better than having bird nests than would seemingly REFORM 1-2 hours after being thoroughly combed despite the damage. I'm going to look into getting a satin pillowcase. I need to find a BB&B store near me anyway. 😘

You're such a blessing. You know for sure what you're talking about. Almost all your tips im doing for years except I bleached my 2b hair one time below boob length 3yrs ago, and sadly when it almost reach waist length, I didn't have a choice but to cut that part off. I've been using coconut oil pre poo and for light oil to condition, I use Argan oil to tame my natural waves and deep hair mask once a week, never blow dry my hair ever since I was young coz easier to air dry as I live in a tropical ctry. What hair oil do you use? For light oil I'm also planning to try Jojoba oil too aside from Argan. The damaged bleached part I had my hairdresser cut few days ago, he confirmed no split ends but it was brittle n the fairy knots was unbearable. I use silk bonnet when I sleep too. Priority is soft healthy hair first, want all virgin hair now right before my crazy bleaching n coloring. But we should enjoy every length of our hair and be patient, also protect from the sunlight as that is very damaging too! And then less products is more. From boob length now im trying to grow my hair waist length. My take away from ur video is the soap organic shampoo!, it will help me though I'm using sulfate free & silicon free hair products for years. Thank you for your spirit, it really shows you genuinely want to help your viewers and that attitude simply adds up to your natural beauty. Now my hair just boob length and I turned 48 last month and hope I get to almost waist length on my 50th bday, God willing. Im your fan from the Philippines. Hugs! ♥️

Anyone can infuse herbs into Apple cider vinegar, though, and you don’t even need to do that, you could just use regular apple cider vinegar. I’d start with about a tablespoon per 8 ounces of water. My hair is one length to almost my waist (between my brastrap and hips). I have the same hair type as you, even the waves. I do braid a lot also, and use scrunchies. You are definately doing things right. One suggestion, try rice bar shampoo. There is a tribe in China of women who grow super long hair (video on yt). I don't know how to attach it but I believe it's called the Tao tribe. Let me know if you find it. On another front, I feel a universe connection to you. Again, hear me out. I have really fine strands but it’s thick cause I have lots of it. It’s currently to my tailbone. I do argon oil on the ends and dry shampoo at my roots most days and only wash when I have to lol biweekly to monthly depending how it’s feeling. I do something similar to your bun you described but for a messy bun I twist it one direction then wrap that direction on top of my head and tuck the ends under. So it ties in a knot and I don’t need an elastic. It makes a cute messy bun but is protective at the same time. I also wrap my hair around 2 ultra thick elastics or thick scrunchies (with a small spray of water) to make space buns that turn into beautiful big curls. (I do think it’s damaging the hairs at the nape of my neck a bit tho) I’ll usually wear space buns for a few days then curls then tied into a bun until I want curls again. That’s my little bit of input lol. Love this video!! Great tips!!

i use the jäneke superbrush (big size) and have recommended it to several kids. (am a nanny) and they all only want to use that brush anymore because it doesn't hurt and passes easily through the hair. sounds like an advertisement but it's really something I can wholeheartedly recommend.

My hair is really weird as it has changed over time. When I was younger it was 3c/f/iii. Nowadays, it's 2c/m/ii. Anyways, thanks for sharing! Never heard some of these tips before. I will definitely be implementing them.

Yay! I'm so happy I was able to offer some new tips. My hair has definitely changed too. It was 1b/f/ii when I started, and now it has way more texture than it used to. Very interesting!

I'll be definitely trying your bar soap for my hair. I use Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar 1 part to 2 parts water with about 6 drops of lavender essential oil. That leaves my hair soft. Thank you for all the great tips!

My hair was to my shoulders in 2016, last week when I would go to sit down I would be sitting on my hair. I also haven’t dyed my hair since then as well. I gave myself a trim, but I think I might take a little more. I am also Native American (I’ve noticed in some of these kinds of videos race/culture has something to do with hair growth. 🤷🏻♀️) love your tips!😉 Don’t forget about what you put into your body as well, mental/emotional health, etc.

Hey Natalia, Thank you.Your hair is spectacular. I was wondering what conditioners you recommend. A lot of conditioners make my hair waxy and sticky. I get fairy knots super easily and my hair type looks very similar to yours; fine stands, not thick, not thin...just right in the middle. My hair seems to never dry so I blow dry on cold air with a shot of warm air at the end of the process. Do you use hair masks? thank you for all your tips!!

Your hair is beautiful. 🙂 My hair grows fast, but my scalp pores get clogged easily, even if I don't use styling products, silicones, or other harsh chemicals. I don't even dye my hair anymore. My scalp gets inflamed easily, so I have to use cortisone because otherwise my hair starts to fall out quickly.

Yes to ALL the videos!! Especially the no 'poo video. I've been curious about that myself. Do you do any oil treatments or anything like that?
@NataliaLeigh3 жыл бұрын
Hi Renee! I've tried castor oil for my hair (wasn't a huge fan, but maybe I wasn't doing it right?), and I've used coconut oil as well. I really love putting a little CO on the tips of my hair whenever it feels dry, and it always feels better the next day :)
@reneebarrette45143 жыл бұрын
@@NataliaLeigh Thanks! So get this. I followed as many of your suggested steps ONCE and I'm already seeing a difference in the condition of my hair! Usually when I shower, I shampoo (the crazy way you described) and only condition the bottom of my hair, otherwise I look like a greaseball. And I can NEVER leave my hair down after sleeping on it (always tied up in a messy bun). This time, I used shampoo on only the top of my head and followed your steps (although I have bottled shampoo) and let the shampoo drip to the bottom, and this morning my hair is soft and amazing and I could totally leave it down! and I've slept on it twice. I already use scrunchies, so that was great, but I lose a TON of hair so I started brushing it the same way you do, and being more careful when I take out my scrunchie and seeing a difference there also!! Thank you for making these videos!

Hey I absolutely love your videos. I'd say your hair is exactly like mine and perhaps that's why I get pretty connected to your stories. I had a question, Your hair also seems to be on the finer side, have you ever notices cowlicks or idk parts on the crown region when the scalp gets oily or greasy?

What’s your opinion on trims? Do you get them regularly? Do you just go without getting them? I’m currently on my long hair journey to tailbone length. I’ve had long hair before in the past, but this is my first time consciously growing it out again long and healthy! The video was helpful!
@NataliaLeigh3 жыл бұрын
How exciting! I'd love to follow your journey! I know a lot of people get regular trims, but I only get one every now and then when I feel it's time to remove the damaged stuff I'm growing out. I haven't noticed if not trimming has had any negative effect on my progress :)

@@NataliaLeigh Also, you are SO right about treating your hair like a precious fabric! That’s something I have never done until like the last 6 months.

I am growing my hair out consciously too. I used to have long hair down to my waist and always wore it up in chopstick buns. In 2020, I shaved the sides and back of my hair, and started growing the top out into a viking hairstyle. I just didn't realize how little volume my hair has just on top when it's grown out. 😳 used to the short gelled volume look. I miss my long hair. So I am on a super long journey since the majority of my head was shaved. My biggest question was how often to get trims, because the hair during a trim can be cut off almost an inch at a time.

I don't have this hair type but the tips are similar to natural afro texture hair growth videos. Reduce tangles is my main issue cause my hair is so fine and fragile and SUPER coily so I keep it in chunky loose braids but now I use heat tools every couple weeks like the revair, and my heated deep conditioner cap. But I will flat iron to purposely loosen my pattern with heat damage cause my hair is easier to manage when the coils are loosened. But I hate perms, my hair falls out with those and my scalp reacts like...burning, itching, bleeding, balding and scabs. So no perm ever again for me. But I will make a video of my straightened hair routine. I love ALL hair so much...including my own. Learning it, is actually relaxing and empowering and shows self love 😍 everyone should learn their hair and try new things with it.

Great tips! So I get that obviously growing out your hair means you don’t do any extreme length cutting, but what about regular trimming to remove damaged tips? Do you ever trim the ends or just don’t touch it ever?
@NataliaLeigh3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I've definitely trimmed my hair over the years, which is the best way I've found to get rid of the damaged bits once and for all. I haven't trimmed it in a while, but I'll probably take about an inch off for the summer to get it cleaned up :)

There is an alternative way to dye your hair black using the henna and indigo 2 step process. The only thing to consider before doing it is the fact that the colour is permanent and can't be removed.
@dustydye5619 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for mentioning this. Henna is great but due to it having metal and minerals in it when trying to remove it with bleach or a chemical remover the reaction that will occur is always unpredictable. No matter how well versed the colorist is their is just no way to know what will happen and the reaction can cause the bleach to heat up really quickly and much hotter than normally. It’s pretty crazy! If you have used henna even six months ago and go for a color service please tell your hairdresser so they are prepared for any surprises.

@@dustydye5619pure organic henna and indigo should never contain metals, salts or anything like that. it should only be ground down plant leaves. buy from a reputable vendor, like henna sooq. pure plant dyes never contain any of that crap you mention. i’ve been using henna, and latterly henna and indigo, on my hair for over 5 years now and my hair has never felt or looked healthier. but never buy pre-mixed hennas - they often contain nasty and unnecessary additives. always buy 100% pure and organic henna / indigo etc. there are other ayurvedic herbs that help with hair growth and keeping it in great condition. check out henna sooq here in youtube land. she’s amazing. she’s really helped me with my long hair journey, its colour and condition. ❤❤❤

I dyed my hair alot. Done blue, purple, blonde, and black alot. And I agree growing out my natural hair color does help it grow. And my natural color is like medium/dark brown its hard to tell sometimes. But it has helped alot so far. I never had it long at all. But bc of my medical conditions make it harder to grow. But I am trying. And the using no heat is also very hard for me due to fact of me having very thick and curly hair. Cause at times I just want thinner and straight hair. I love all your tips though, they help so much. Thank you.

This is great, one thing I suggest for you is that you just get a trim. I know what you're thinking, you're trying to grow your hair why cut it. Like you said in the video, there's damage with some of your older hair at the bottom. Plus if you have split ends, you should definitely get a trim. It will make your hair look and be healthier. Great video, informative! :)
