@@mjpitner7370 I feel pretty “normal”. Moving a lot better, faster, easier to get up and lie down without using my arms. Started jogging and lifting very light, the feeling is a little weird but not really painful. Though I still get some jabs of sharp pain randomly, but they go as fast as they came.

I had a hernia repair at 20. I’m 28 now. I wear a hernia truss during lifting at all times. I think what’s been worse than lifting for me is hiking or long walks without the truss. I’m glad Adam emphasized now giving up the movements because I find them so fun and helpful

I had 3 hernias repaired around a year ago, I recently started doing some workouts but i don't push too much as I'm 54 and have torn other parts of my body so my strength is cut to by 70 plus percent, anyways I'm kinda feeling sore down there and I'm hoping it's nothing so people becareful working out you may not feel the pain working out but all it takes is one day of pushing it out and aggravating your hernia as fpr me I'm praying that it's all in my head what I'm feeling but I'm just going to let it rest a while a try to ease up on it again later!

I am told some people have twinges of pain and weird feelings for the rest of their lives. Some of it is in head. My opinion: as long as it completely healed shouldn't "pop" again. mesh should be made stronger. My doc knows I'm active, and he meshed up my higher hernia. 53

Some of your techniques regarding isometric, tempo etc comments are flat out awesome. I have adopted many of them. I am 4 weeks post op right side inguinal repair. It is amazing honestly how little weight it takes to stimulate the muscle. Granted, I am not gaining anymore but it is surprising how little stress it takes to actually work out and maintain what had. Example, I was scared to go to gym so I did standing calf raises on a block in back yard. 5 sets of the most concentrated slowest 20-25 rep sets. I couldn't walk for a week (slight exaggeration but SORE) and had a monstrous pump, no machine, no weight. :) I know people do it post surgery but I honestly don't ever see myself doing heavy squats or deadlifts again, although that kind of stopped when hernia came even before surgery not to mention am 55! :)

Hey guys, im now 3 months post surgery. First month i did 0 activity, second month i started shadow boxing and push ups while wearing compression belt. 1.5 months in, i added lifting light weights (isolation movements, no compound movements) also added cycling, 25-30km/h and added planks too. I progressively increased my planks and now i can do 5 min. I stopped wearing the belt by end of second month and never weared it during planks. I started doing weighted sit ups by this time as well 2-5kg max. By end of 3rd month, i added swimming. It has been a week now and i feel great. Will get back to boxing training next week so that’s exciting. I used to wrestle before the surgery but i will give myself one more month until get back to that. Will keep u posted.

I have been looking for this discussion. I had my bilateral inguinal operation 4-5 years ago. Heavy barbell and heavy deadlift are a no go. I have been using the leg press with no issue. I am thinking about giving box squats a try. I recently purchased a belt squat for my home gym. In my experience that type of machine doesn’t seem aggravate my mesh repair. I think it is something to do with the position I end up in at the bottom half of a barbell squat.

Avoid pushing to the limit and going for failure. When you go to failure you lose coordination and form which can hurt you. Focus on consistency and form instead of explosiveness and heavy weights. Planks are awesome for your core strength and avoiding future hernias while being very safe 2-3 months after your surgery, do them for a minute a couple of times after your main workout. Forget your ego, ego lifting can make you have another surgery which is much harder on the body than first one with lower success rate. It sucks, I am 25 and I will most likely never be as strong, confident and explosive as before, learn to live with it and find another thing to fulfill you besides crushing it at the gym. I mean maybe I could be as strong but now I have to be extra careful and progress slowly but surely which kills my drive to workout as much as before. But on other hand if I wasnt pushing my body to the limit for years I might have avoided surgery in the first place, hope this helps but keep asking, especially the people who have been through this.

@@kannainjeti8611 I was devastated, my strength was basically half of my identity, I got to 95 kilos with abs on 177cm height. I almost got into obese category as per BMI and I could do 25 muscle ups(not pull ups). And to go from that to can't lift more than 5 kg for couple of months honestly made me cry. And male tears are heavy ones. I took 6 month off completely(maybe even overdid my rest just to be sure)and slovely started doing some crap workouts(knee raises, planks, 10 kg lifts, 5 pushups sets) and in a month I started doing pullups again. Now I can do 12 pullups and 40 pushups which is far cry from my former strength but much better than vast majority of people, I feel that I could maybe do 1 or two muscle ups but I dare not. Stilll I have lean 85 kg on that same 177cm frame which is much above average but just imagine 10 kg of meat, that's a lot when seen on a table and then imagine it on your lats, chest, arms, shoulders and the like. I could maybe bring that up to 90 kg lean in a few months but now I got new interests like meditation, spirituality, energy work, psychology and building up my character. In a way hernia broke my ego and gave me a lot of time off(was a construction worker which I couldn't do a long time after hernia) so I could focus on underdeveloped parts of my body and character(learned female psychology and psychology in general and had more fun with them than ever). Grew my D 2 inches in lenght and 1 in girth, had a lot of time on my hands lol and learned ejaculation control. It's not all bad.

I was still working out with the inguinal hernia but had to reduce it frequently throughout the day and it was uncomfortable but I could still do stuff at the gym. I'm starting to realize now that i had surgery I will never be able to train again. These surgeries just don't hold up to strength training and I wish my surgeon had known that. He told me I would have a 1 to 2% chance of reoccurrence and could return to full activity at 6 weeks. So far I have seen not one good news story on the internet anywhere. Safest probably calf raises and seated calf raises. For quads probably leg extensions, for glutes split squats, and for hamstrings lying hamstring curls. These will create the least Intrabdominal pressure and don't require much bracing. Least safe include deadlifts and squats - obviously. Leg presses and seated hamstring curls also create significant amounts of pressure and should be avoided.
