Tatu is the perfect example of someone who is close to having good swings, but isn't there yet. Obviously I told him what to focus on when doing the gainer switch during the session, but it was hard for him to actually do what I told, since completing the move itself is still hard enough task for him. Therefore, it's not yet possible for him to reserve thoughts on putting the details into action. This is why we need to drill tricks a ton, since that allows everything except the details come pretty much automatically without much thoughts needed to put into at least completing the move succesfully once. Only then it's possible to change one new thing at a time and then another one. Yeah I know, tricking is hard 😅

Quite the trust you had in my swingchains before the session, appreciate it tho😂 nice tips, had not done any indepth analysis of my gswitch tech yet so guess this came to right place.

But what things must be corrected to fall into a good eagle as you mentioned in the video? swing a lot, lift your hips, reject with jstep, and that sort of thing, right?

Swing in a straight line. I guess for that you gotta watch my "Swings in tricking tutorial" or just observe me doing the good ones.

How long did it take you to learn gainer switches? And how many did you drill until they felt “easy”?

Great advice! I appreciate the video, and especially the slomo and side by side comparisons. One thing I've noticed with swings is to focus on the upswing, or the second half of the swing. For example, even when Tatu landed with enough power to swing, he cut his swing leg short. If you focus on committing and swinging through and up as much as possible, it helps to reset the swings and continue the momentum, even if its lost due to technique at some point. I work on that by drilling standing gainer switches, so that I know I can continue swinging up and around even when it feels like I've lost momentum. Let me know if that makes sense and if you try that with Tatu, how that goes! Best of luck!

Good tip. When drilling single gainer switch swing this should always be thought about 👍🏻

Do we need to have the ability of split, to learn this move? Also how many years old were you, when you first started learning flips?
@johzuke1

Absolutely no need. Learned backflip on ground when I was 14. Took a while because I wasn't very focused with training flips for the first 4 years.
