Thanks for your info. I love my turkey. This will be her 1st winter with our chickens. We live in northern Illinois, so it also gets very cold.

Thank you for sharing. I live in Canada, Quebec and it gets cold in winter. They have reintroduced "wild turkeys" around here, and I wanted to see how they survive in winter. There is one female alone outside my apartment. I am tempted to help somehow, though I think some of my neighbour's are thinking it would be more merciful if that turkey would end up in someone's pot for dinner...

I want to add, that they have not being reintroduced so people can eat them....

Thank you for sharing! It’s important to keep the wild turkeys wild, it’s not good to get them accustomed to humans or to feed them in the winter. If you feel the turkey in question needs help, it would be worthwhile to report the bird to the Conservation Department, so they can determine the best course of action.

My Royal palms and Bourbons always roost in a Cedar tree no matter the conditions. If their Wild kin do it all the time then they can do it too. I do however feed them Black oil sunflower seeds for fat.

Helloo, great information, thank you. CUESTION, have 2 breed of turkeys, they are all together, for how long I need tu put the separate, to get pure breed?
@MeyerHatchery10 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for watching and asking this great question! The heritage turkeys reach breeding age at 7 months old. You will need to separate them them around 6 months of age to maintain pure lineage when they are ready to breed.

They’re ok to stay inside there throughout the winter ?
@MeyerHatchery7 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question! The answer is: Yes! As long as they have the appropriate amount of space so they are not crowded the turkeys can stay inside throughout the winter. Heritage breeds need 5 to 8 square feet of indoor coop space per turkey. 💖🦃
