Personally I’d like to see dogs restrained using safety harness/seatbelt restraints,there’s other drivers who may cause and accident and the dogs would be thrown forward hitting the seats or ver the seats and through the windscreen.

Just did a coast to coast and back again. Would fill up and use facilities at a Love’s Travel Stops (clean clean clean and they have an app so you can easily find them everywhere). Stayed at LaQuinta, Courtyard by Marriott, Fairfield Suites, or Moxey (they are amazing) depending upon what was available. Hope the info is useful to someone who is thinking about such a trip.

Great tips! I've never stayed at Moxey before. I don't think I've come across one yet, but they look super cool.

I've never found a Courtyard or Fairfield that takes pets. :( And Bucee's is the best gas stations ever! I think the largest one is in New Braunfels, Tx. Too bad they are only in Tx. mostly.

Good job! Thanks for making the video. I've traveled from Florida to San Diego 5 times with 5 to 3 dogs (depending on the year.) The first 3 years was with my mom and the last two alone because she passed away. I pulled a 5x8 utility trailer that carried everything so my dogs could have the entire back end of my 4Runner. They were great travelers! We stop a lot of it takes me 5 days. Straight shot on I-10. In 2019 I bought a van and boy did that change things. Everything I need is there. Except gas. :) I now travel with 3 dogs to N.M. mostly to visit my brother. Hotels are now charging higher rates for pets which stinks. Especially for each dog. :( The biggest concern for me was safety. I had a Rottie before and when she passed away all that was left were 2 little 10lb goof balls. Last year I rescued a pitty and now feel a little more safe. Heading back out in the fall if anyone wants to make a convoy. LOL!
@travelpockets
@travelpockets 2 жыл бұрын
Wow, you traveled with 5 dogs at one point!? Now, that's impressive. Having a van would definitely be awesome since it's more spacious, but yeah, the gas prices are just insane right now.

I keep planning to and then putting off my deep desire to leave the cold rainy area where I live to go to Florida for 3 months in winter....I am in Oregon so it's a 3400 mile drive and I do have a little dog I rescued a couple years ago. I want to get a little trailer and take my motor scooter and take the scooter off the trailer and make ride videos wherever we stop for a night and maybe half a day to explore an area....I always think it would be great to have a convoy on the trip down there! I want to go so, so bad, but....I still haven't gone yet. 😫

That sounds like an awesome plan! I wish I could escape the summers here in South Florida. The older I get (in my 60's now), the harder it is to put up with this high humidity. You need to do this! If you get down this way look me up. :)@@LittleMissIssues

How was your trip? I plan on doing the same route but MD -> CA lol. Any tips on where to stay/stop with a dog?
@ThinkingInProgress
@ThinkingInProgress 2 жыл бұрын
@@AceEclar It wasn't that bad. Having a cat was the main issue since we didn't have a litter box. Dog wasn't as much of a problem but with dogs I've had in the past, make sure you have a bucket or some sort in case they get car sick and vomit in the car. Having a towel handy would be nice. MAKE SURE TO BOOK THE HOTELS IN ADVANCE. I've heard some horror stories of people not finding hotels to stay at since they don't book ahead. It'll save you the stress. Look at reviews and find hotels at BringFido. Make sure they accept dogs and check to make sure how much the fees are because they can add up and may change where you might want to stop that night.

I'm about to take my 9 month old pomsky solo from Florida to NY after the passing of my 16 year old min pin this week to see my family. It's going to be an adventure. Me and my min pin drove from ny to cali in 3 days with her on my lap the whole way. I got him a seatbelt harness and a backseat extender. We are planning on doing fla to ny in 2 days.

I have been known to use toilets with a long lead and greyhound on the other side of the cubicle door lol Considering in the UK a lot of owners take their dogs on holiday with them and there are hundreds of 'dog-friendly' holiday rentals there need to be a lot more green areas/dog areas/stops within service stations and along route and helpful stops for single dog owners.

@travelpockets
@travelpockets Жыл бұрын
No, I don't leash my dog in the car or put a seat belt on her because she doesn't move around much and the car seat cover protects her from falling forward. Some people who have more active dogs should definitely use a seat belt attachment to protect their dogs. I sleep at pet-friendly hotels along the way. I book them ahead of time.

Only problem I have is that you unhooked her before you put her in the car and you even turned away, she could've taken off. No matter how well trained you think they are, they could still take off.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! for this video. My 16 lbs Coco is a 5 year old Coton de Tuléar, which means I haven't been anywhere in five years because I'm anxious to travel a great distance alone with him. I have the opportunity for a two-day trip to visit my brother this summer, and I had turned it down, but after watching your video, I'm rethinking the whole thing! The one missing piece of information is how you deal with your meals. The weather seems cool on your trip, but what if it's 90 degrees out and you need to stop for food? I also worry about leaving Coco in a strange hotel room while I go grab dinner, especially since it would be a first for him. I've never been on a longer than a 4-hour road trip with him. I also noticed that you don't strap-in your dog. I do mine, which means having an uncomfortable (I'm sure) harness on him all the time, while doubting the effectiveness of these flimsy belts in an accident. I'd like to hear your views on that. And I laughed at hearing your baby bark when you stopped at a gas station. PARK=BARK for my dog and he'll bark very loudly until I let him out! I've given up trying to correct this behaviour.
@travelpockets
@travelpockets 6 ай бұрын
For food, I usually go through drive-thru and eat in the car or bring it to the hotel room with me. I also bring some meals and snacks with me. On occasion, I will dine out with my dog at pet-friendly restaurants. I personally do not strap in my dog because she does not move around much and I use a dog seat hammock cover. Sounds like your dog has the same excitement when we arrive at places! Hope you make the trip with your fur baby :)

To get a better hotel rate, is it better to pre-book days ahead or just walk-in?
@travelpockets
@travelpockets 2 жыл бұрын
It's always better to pre-book. Some hotels give a bigger discount for booking months in advance. I always book ahead and make sure they have a free cancellation policy. Most hotels will let you cancel 1-2 days prior to your stay if you need to. Just make sure to read their cancellation policy :)

hi! So good videos. I'm planning on going on a road trip by myself too in october but im worried about the gas prizes. Can i ask how much you end up spending in total on the trip?
@travelpockets
@travelpockets 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you so much! I didn't keep track of gas prices for this trip, but it was before the gas prices went up. Before the inflation, it was about $200 total for a 5-day trip going the shortest route on I-10. I'm guessing with inflation, it'll probably be about $300 - $350 for gas depending on the type of car you drive and where you plan on visiting. Here is a detailed guide to the very first solo road trip I did a couple of years ago: www.thetravelpockets.com/new-blog/ultimate-guide-to-a-solo-cross-country-road-trip-with-your-dog

Most people in their comments are totally missing the point of what she is doing Wrong and that the dog is not in a harness and does not have a dog seat/safety belt attached to their harness and clipped into the cars seat belt/buckle. People have left comments about their road trips and the price of gas, but for God sake the poor dog if in an accident would turn into a flying brick. She hasn't at all taken into account the dogs welfare. This is a very misleading video.
