I've been facing having to give up my lab because he barks and howls so loud in his kennel at my apartment when I'm away. Youre video was so informative and to the point after a couple hours I was able to leave the room and he just went sleep....THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

I don’t understand… so so difficult. Because this is working as a kennel or crate training… but the minute the guardian leaves the room my 8 month puppy gets so stressed

I’m wondering how to keep a dog in the kennel and model this “stand in front of the crate” with door open when my legs aren’t large enough to block the exit

What if my puppy likes her kennel but just cries when we try to leave the house without her, with her in it? We’ve never left her in there for a long time to make her hate it?

What if we want to have train him to sleep during the night? Can we make them stay longer in the crate for more than 4 hours (e.g: 6-8 hours) in our sleeping time ?

A good trick to add is to do a 30 minute walk/jog with your dog before you put them in the cage, to drain the pent up energy.

@@snoopylyn9065 My senior dog is 13 husky mix I tend to walk her less than 30 minutes. For my adolescent he's going on 3 years, it's a cocker spaniel (hunting dog) lot's of energy I walk him anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour morning and again when I get home. You adjust according to the needs of your dog. What helps also is routine. Maintaining a consistent routine helps a lot especially if your dog is sensitive to a change in schedule. A tired dog is a happy dog.

What do we do if my dog won't eat the treats? Like hes no longer interested?
@momtomaryjean

Thought I would suggest something. Instead of just using treats use the dogs daily meals (kibble) doing this every day. They will be hungry and they always have to eat. So instead of jus rising treats when a dog is already full from their regular meals begin using their meals for the drill. :). It builds good drive for them to work for their meals.

Late reply but to also add on to what the other person said. It could be your dog has rised to an even higher stress level which is why he may no longer be interested. If that's the case more work needs to be done in desensitizing your dog to the crate to feel safer and more relaxed in and around the crate.

Hi I started with this method yesterday and it is definitely working! But after my dog lays down I walk away and all of a sudden I noticed her paw or head is hanging out!! What do I do? Walk back right in front of crate or just leave her like it? Many thanks

Walk back in front of the door moving her back with your body (spatial pressure). Once back in further wait for the dog to lie down and then move away again. But ensure the dog is inside the crate

I have a new puppy who is now 11 weeks old but we’ve had him for a week. He takes naps in his crate during the day no problem when we’re all around but as soon as we leave or go to bed he’s loses his mind. We tried positive reinforcements and sleeping next to him but if we leave at all he loses his mind. We’re confused because any other time he’s anxious or scared he hides under the couch and away from us but as soon as he’s in the crate by himself he can’t do it. We’re at a loss and any advice or encouragement would be great

My puppy is 12 weeks and we are having the exact same problem. Did you manage to make any progress with your pup or have any tips at all?

Nat 1 yes I did. First I would recommend, if you can, going to the r/puppy101 subreddit. They answer all questions and it’s super helpful with a new pup. As for crate training our pup really struggled, so what we ended up doing was putting his crate in my room level with my bed on top of some sturdy bins that won’t tip over. This way I could sleep next to him but still in bed. As he got more and more comfortable we removed the bins until he was down on the floor and then slowly moved his crate day by day or week by week farther and farther from the bed. As long as you don’t move to quickly and give them time to adjust to you and their new home it’ll help. If you can’t do that let me know I’ve picked up a ton of tricks to help. We also began a nightly walk, not to long though about 5 minutes for every month of age so for a new pup probably only once around the block, we are at 25 minute walks. Then after the walk we wait for him to go to sleep and put him in his kennel already sleeping, this really helps their adjustment and I still do it every day because it’ll give me a few hours to myself to watch tv or something 😂 if you need any more help or clarifications I’m glad to help. Sorry if my writing is trash, I’m bad at grammar 😂
