Merrium or rios, the two breeds near me. So a decoy is a good option.

I have a full strut tom decoy and man I got shot a nice long beard because it! Had a hen and a tom decoy out and he charged my decoy! Got him at 6 yards it was awesome

I bet that was a fun experience! Congratulations on your turkey!

This is my current struggle. I know exactly where they are but it's to thick to get in there with them but I can't get them to come out in the plot to shoot. They'll gobble at me like crazy for about an hour and come close but refuse to step on out. I'm gonna leave the decoys at the house tomorrow

Often times it takes a little coaxing to get them to close the distance. Have you tried purring when they get to their closest point? You may just need to set up in a different area besides the food plot as well.

I only hunt Rios where I live, and a high looking Jake is the ticket, killed a pile of Toms over that decoy! Every now and then I get a skittish bird that will turn away, but not very often. Great info for sure.

Glad to hear you've found a setup that works well. Good luck this season!

Unfortunately, in Michigan it's illegal to hold or manipulate your decoys so you either got to set them out or forget about it.

It definitely pays to know the rules and regulations of your hunting area.

First year hunting in Michigan. I’m running my deer camo and just chilling in hedge rows but I need a blind so bad.

When you use a decoy, how do you know whether he responded to sound stimulation (calling) or sight stimulation (the decoy)? I don’t use decoys because Ned in the first reader can kill one with a decoy, while communication requires practice and an understanding of turkey language, in essence, the game.

Often times a turkey will hear you first and you can see a change in posture when they see the decoy.

I only hunt turkeys with a mouth call and a pack of cigarettes rolled into my shirt sleeve wearing cut off jean shorts and old jungle boots. They don't need no decoy or chocolate and flowers. Are we hunting or having Valentine's day? Gobble gobble.
