European Portuguese is a very nice language. Even though I live in Canada I am in touch with Portuguese speaking people on a daily basis. I can see language is very important to your people. I know I will be visiting Portugal in the not too distant future and finding your videos has encouraged me to continue to want to learn more. Pronunciation is very important. Your pleasant manner of speaking and your clear pronunciation is going to make this adventure and endeavor that much more easier. I love languages. I enjoy learning. It’s going to take a lot of repetition and practice. With a house and work place covered in post it notes and me talking your language out loud and having videos like yours to reference from, I will enjoy my experiences that much more. Obrigado Professor Sandra

RTP of Portugal should introduce subtitles to some of its TV drama/action series, even if it is once a week - this will greatly help beginners to learn the (European) Portuguese language, wherever they may be in the world. Hope that this will become fruition in the near future. May God bless Portugal and its people, with peace and prosperity, and long lives. Thanks for sharing video.

Thank you so much for creating this channel, such valuable and rare, high quality content. May I ask, where in Portugal is your accent from? Also, is the Lisbon accent much different from the accent taught in your videos? Thank you in advance for any clarity you can provide.
@learneuropeanportuguese4 жыл бұрын
Olá!!! My accent is from the Lisbon region. I grew up in Caldas da Rainha (80kms north of the capital) and went to Lisbon for college and work 😀
@Module79L3 жыл бұрын
The large majority of people in mainland Portugal have a similar accent. You'll only find accents that can be a little more difficult to understand at first in the North and in the Beira Baixa (which is Central Portugal's interior region). Then there are the two archipelagos, which have very specific accents, some more difficult to understand than others. : )

Thank you for taking up this cause. I have lived in Portugal for a little more than 3 years. I watch RTP virtually everyday... but struggle to find content with Portuguese subtitles .... Even more frustrating is finding a series which is seemingly subtitled but by the third or fourth episode the subtitles have been dropped, giving the impression that RTP has a very relaxed attitude when it comes to consistency in the delivery of its service. Perhaps a small minority of enthusiasts wanting to take their Portuguese further is not enough incentive for RTP but what about the Portuguese Hearing Impaired Community who would clearly benefit from such a service. I know signing is used in a lot of programmes but I imagine there are many Portuguese who have experienced a degree of loss of hearing who do not sign and therefore would appreciate subtitles. I will definitely write ...
@learneuropeanportuguese4 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment! I totally agree with you that this subtitle issue is also very important for the Portuguese Hearing Impaired. Can you share with me what series these subtitles have been dropped? That is a great example to share with them. Thanks for joining the cause, I'm very hopeful that we can change things!

@@learneuropeanportuguese Hi Sandra Thank you for your reply. I have been wracking my brain all day to think of an example. I am afraid when I dismiss something I tend to move on and forget all about it. However, I had a little browse today and the series I had in mind was 'O Atentado'. I quickly jumped through Season 1 and out of 10 episodes, Ep 3, 6, 9 and 10 are missing the subtitles. It is a great shame as it is so demotivating and this series would not have bee good for Portuguese language but also a deepening understanding of Portuguese history. I am going to message you via Facebook with another thought.

@@learneuropeanportuguese they don’t even consider any Portuguese who are having hearing problems as they age, why would an elderly person learn sign language when they already know Portuguese? Accessibility is a human right, extra benefits are that non-native speakers can learn and understand. RTP either do not understand the problem or are just not willing to do the right thing, both of which are odd stances as they are a media company.

@learneuropeanportuguese3 жыл бұрын
Boas entradas!!!

Having a foreign language just playing away in the background never worked well for me. I got in the bad habit of hearing words without attaching any meaning to them. I became a lazy listener.
