We shaved tires back in my circle track days and even grooved them for dirt tracks. I learned so much from those guys on how to get a small tire to stick. When you can pull a wheelie exiting a corner on a clay oval, you've got it figured out.

Back when I was poor and just into bracket racing, I had a set of radial T/A's on my Camaro that hooked pretty good on the strip, not a terribly quick car. When I finally pulled them off the rim they had zero tread left with a light cord exposure, those sidewalls were like a 10 speed bike tire they were so well broken in.

First, another awesome video and thank you for showing and clearly explaining how these cars work! It’s insane how many people don’t understand the difference between Factory Stock and FAST classes. Anyone who can tie their own shoe should understand that these aren’t Bloomington Gold cars tickling an 8 second pass. Second, I like the voiceover intro! You’re editing is getting better with every video.

I never imagined stock tires would hook that well. They sure seemed to be happy to spin like crazy on my Camaros and Chevelles but I guess the key is low pressure and a cheater slick to slick surface. Pretty amazing stuff. You could probably hire me to toast all your tires off if you'd want to save wear and tear on that expensive looking machine.

Back in 1967, serving in the navy at Boardman bombing range in Boardman, Oregon, I took my 61 Chevy to a Les Schwab tire store in Hermiston, Oregon to address a rough ride. They cut the tires on a machine similar to the one you guys have to “re-round” the tires. Problem solved.

I'm looking into hard tire racing to save $ 1.How many passes can you get on them? 2.Small burnouts or even avoid the water? 3.Does the car ride smoother after lathing the tire? 4. Would $40 used tires work as good since they are broken done ?

So i am curious about the actual class as far as prep. I mean i was around/and a member of nmca back when it first started, but are they consistent with the surface prep in this class, and if so is it closer to radial prep or, do you get what you get?

We see all sorts of prep when it comes to the race track surface. All depends on the event we’re at. We see some radial prep stuff, and we see some tracks with little to no glue. We set the cars up different depending on the surface.

Coker has Firestone G70 15" redlines for $574. Smaller tires are cheaper. F70 15s are $411 and other brands like Goodyear are cheaper too. Coker also might not be the cheapest website to buy from. I picked G70 because the F.A.S.T. website says that is the largest allowed.
