@@michaelpatterson6508 if your preference is for staying up at night, consider a night shift job. call centers, hospitals, and construction often run 24/7, and you might as well get an easy $1-$3 extra differential per hour just for the fact of working nights. that differential exists because it's hard to find competent staff at those hours. take advantage of it. makes a lot more sense than trying to fit in to the 8am-5pm world.

Oh my god. I feel foolish that I never realized this. I'm 41 now and decided to start working out, getting in shape to better myself. Lost 50 Lbs feeling slim and trim and slimmer than I was in high school. However I'm not as strong, so I starting light training, barbells, pull ups, situps, squats, push ups. Really basic things and it was working. However like that video said. I started sleeping A LOT, come noon, if I wasn't working I passed out. If I stopped moving for any extended time I passed out. So started eating sugar and coffee to give myself energy. Bad idea I realize, because I started working out less and eating crap again. You made me realize I wasn't resting enough and almost certainly wasn't eating enough. I was limiting myself to lots of vegetables, few fruits and light protein. Your video have pointed out several problems I had. So now I must ween myself off coffee and sugar which I didn't drink before I started exercising. So eat better, eat more and sleep when I'm tired. Thank you sir, keep up the great motivation. Some people think you are harsh, but I see it as tough love. Stay strong!

***** well of course there are differences between us and other animals, and many negative Stigmas are associated with the word. but the distinction of "we can think, they dont" is very shaky in my eyes, animals just think about less stuff than we do. or i should say it seems that way, because how are we even supposed to know what animals really think. for me the term just means a Group of living Things other than plants, which humans belong to.

There's nothing more detrimental to your progression in the gym than not listening to your body. If you didn't get enough sleep to recover from yesterday's training or are under so much stress from your personal life or work, or your nutrition has been way off and you've been eating excess processed foods and not enough proteins and enzymes/vitamins and healthy fats, this will show and will effect your training. Rule of thumb: consistency is everything. If you follow a strength program, follow it to a T even if you aren't seeing results right away, following a decent program all the way through will be benefit you more than following an amazing program every once in a while. Same goes with nutrition. Why? Because the body is not separate from your muscles and your muscles are not separate from your immune system. As much as we'd like to believe; we are not machines! (this is why you grow stronger with the more rest). If you are feeling like crap, lower the intensity and go for volume at light weight to get blood flow and oxygen/nutrient delivery to the muscles and body for recovery and to save your CNS. If you feel great, go for intensity or balance intensity and volume according to how you feel, what your day is like etc. This is also why you'll see ADVANCED and elite lifters (10-20+ years of consistent training) rarely going over board with their training, rather they'll do their mobility, hit a strength lift to create a stimulus and may or may not do accessory work (get in, get out, no bs) and leave because they have experimented and learned first hand what works for their body and balances with their overall lifestyle! Again, no magazine or website or whatever is going to tell you what works best for you, they may give you different ideas to try out (always keep an open mind be open to new ideas and philosophies), but in the end YOU must find what works for you! Being fearless and stepping into the unknown (yoga, bodybuilding, strength or powerlifting, martial arts, gymnastics, maybe a combination of all??) You'd be amazed at what the body CAN do when it is recovered and has the "money in the bank" because you listened to it! Volume vs. intensity is only part of the equation! Good luck!

This video really applies to me. I recently began a summer internship and flew across the country to work there. I'm usually a very energetic person, but ever since the first day I landed I've been *so sleepy*. I come back from the gym and I sleep. I come back from work and I sleep. I think Elliot's comments are spot on: I'm feeling sleepy because I'm growing. I'm in a new place, new job, new people, new responsibilities, etc. This video allowed me to understand that, as opposed to becoming frustrated with myself because I'm tired.

I've been sleeping about 16 hours and I'm still tired. School is fucking up my health and I can't do nothing about it. My choices are to either stay healthy and be alert and happy or to get good grades but fuck up my health and be tired and salty all the time.

Constant fatigue, brain fog, lack of motivation, anxiety, gaining fat. Nearly debilitating. In hindsight, I was going going hard the last 2 yrs building my business, average sleep 5-6 hrs per night working 7 days per week. I possibly burned myself out. This rest/restore thing is no joke. I don't have a "job" which is so bad I have to be glad that there is a free weekend. I would just like to bring awareness to Adult ADHD/ADD as well. There are many things that can make you tired all the time. But if it is happening even when you are in a maintenance phase of training or not training at all, there could be something else going on. Adult ADHD or ADD is pretty common in men (as high as 10%!) and is often times missed as a child, especially ones with a high I.Q. They still do well in school. (they are both currently categorized as "ADHD" by the medical community) can cause overwhelming fatigue because the brain has to work harder to do everyday tasks than the average person. Many many times it has been mistakenly diagnosed as depression (which happened to me in '91) but the antidepressants make you even more tired! Twenty years later, I finally get diagnosed with Adult ADHD. People spend there entire life in a constant brain fog that contributes to chronic depression and fatigue. If this post helps even just one person, then I'm glad!

Smoker Deew ADHD isn't an illness, it's a disorder. It's highly misdiagnosed because it's entirely contextual, and people don't act in the same manner at all times. I agree that drugs are a poor way to treat it, but that doesn't make the disorder any less debilitating.

You have no idea how timely this video came to my suggestions. I am 100% it was God who showed me this video. I’ve been completely knocked out this past year- I literally withdrew myself and just rested. This was also the year I became Christian was LITERALLY Born Again. I didn’t understand why I was so exhausted and why I never had energy. Yet mentality and spiritually I was on fire. My growth in those aspects were tremendous, yet my physical health deteriorated and I found myself always exhausted. I believe after 9 months, God is telling me that my “growth” period is over and I am now ready to take on the world as a new creation in Christ. It’s ironic that 9 months is also how long it takes a baby to be formed in a womb, crazy how God works sometimes. Thank you for this amazing video, God bless you.

When I got my first office job I was so exhausted for the first month. Even now I sometimes have to have a 15-30min nap after work. Now if you don't feel okay and can barely make it through your work day then you might want to get some blood tests to make sure your not anemic or something. But it's totally normal to need a rest after 8 hours of working hard.

Thank you for this video. I have also been having this problem and I am concerned about it. Perhaps it's because of my change in lifestyle. I was mostly a cardio and HIIT girl, but I finally just started incorporating strength training into my workout routine for the past few weeks. I've been feeling a bit drained and sluggish. In the past after a workout I use to feel so energized and I felt good. Now, I'm just drained afterwards and I don't feel that once satisfying feeling after my workout. I don't like this...😒

Wow I thought I was the only one. For whatever reason after a cardio or HIIT workout, I feel great!Both relaxed and energized.But I was recently wondering why If I just keep it strength training,especially heavy lifting after the lifting is done I often just feel tired and sleepy and sometimes even somewhat depressed and anxious (but nothing serious).So recently I actually added cardio or HIIT and I don't even like that kind of stuff,always much preferred weight lifting until now.
@TShade33
@TShade33 8 жыл бұрын
the demand for energy when doing cardio or hiit workouts is different than that of weight lifting. its not uncommon to be really tired after lifting when youve really pushed yourself. all your sugar gets dumped when weight lifting causing you to feel a sudden drop in energy after versus when you do cardio your body is being pushed in a different way. this causes your body to react differently. its just different processes your body goes through.

@TShade33
@TShade33 7 жыл бұрын
Doing cardio after a workout is more beneficial than before. if you run before a workout your energy will be dumped into the cardio and youll have less energy for the lifting. Running is also essential to muscle growth being that your legs hold the majority of muscles, as far as grouping, in your body which will create the most amount of boost in testosterone when being exercised. of course testosterone and muscle growth go hand in hand so dont neglect cardio, nor legs in general

Oh what timing that I find this. We just moved into our new house. Stress is coming down. I'm back to eating clean and the first two weeks I was full of energy and dropped 12 lbs. Today is day 3 of doing DDP Yoga advanced workout program. The first two days I had times where I just passed plain out asleep. Day one was all day. Day two I made it to the evening. Today is my first rest day. I'm trying so hard to stick to a rest day. So I took my kiddos for a long morning walk so I felt I did something. It's so hard not to get up and put that dvd in and kill it! But I'm sore from two days of awesome work. Maybe the sleep is telling me to chill. I was worried maybe I'm not eating enough. On my paleo diet I just really am not hungry as much. This is an issue I thankfully thought of and really identify that I'll kill my body for a week then drop off. I gotta rest. Skillfully rest maybe? Not just sitting around eating gluten free donuts! Any ways sorry to ramble. Thanks for all you do Elliot. This gal appreciates the role you're playing in my journey to the strongest version of me.

I've been tired (extremely exhausted really) everyday, all day, for several years. Sleeping more doesn't fix it for me personally. What you got to do is go to a doctor. Because there's so many possible reasons why we're tired. Working out when you're exhausted man, it's hard and everything else in your life is suffering too. I'm doing really bad in University, I haven't been there in weeks.

Exacly, GO SEE A DOCTOR. Have blood tests, have your diet evaluated, ensure you take part in positive activities throughout your day that put you in a better place. Take away all the negative non productive stuff, hang out with family and friends who feed you a positive happy energy and a long etc. It could simply be a deficiency in your diet, you could have anemia, or many other conditions… Or it could be psychological related, depression, anxiety. This is all to be taken into account. Elliott here provides food for thought, just a different view point on many things but not a definitive answer whatsoever, he didn't tell the guy what he could be suffering nor how to solve it. No one should watch his videos or anyone else's for a definitive and unique answer to their HEALTH problems.

Of course you have to rest. Another thing we lose is the lift. When a baby has to pick something from the floor what does it do? squats ass to the floor. Had that pointed out to me by a health and safety officer whilst I was working on the railway. You grow whilst you sleep, you repair, you detoxify. When you lift your basically tearing muscle and your body compensates to repair that by growing more muscle so that weight you've been lifting no longer punishes you.

6'8 and tired all the time, he should see an endocrinologist. He could have a pituitary tumor. Also, I'm not sure that such tall people should lift massively heavy weights. They tend to develop joint problems because the padding in the joints do not scale exactly with height and weight. Same deal with the heart. It has to work a lot harder. I would do moderate weights and more core body exercises instead of trying to make yourself into the incredible hulk. You really want to preserve those joints.
