If a person looks, there are lots of aftermarket upper filters for these trucks a person can get real cheap. I suspect that the fail is not necessarily that folks are not changing their filters often enough; rather going for the cheap filters and these are failing with catastrophic consequences. That's just a theory of mine. I am more than meticulous with mine, changing it way more often than necessary, but the nagging doubt in the back of my mind is all that was necessary to motivate me to install this kit. I definatly come from the "once of prevention is always better than a pound of cure," crowd. I love my Super Duty and seeing others guys awesome trucks burning to the ground over something as cheap and as easy as this to fix is one regret I don't want to have.

Thanks again ARod for showing us a better, easier & safer solution. Thanks especially for the source info for all of the parts you used! My only concern are the Oetiker clamps. They look a lot like the Pex fittings that plumbers use (& many hate, since they often fail under pressure). I suppose pressure shouldn’t be an issue for the return line, but I think I’m still gonna stick with a tried & true stainless hose clamp (similar to the one HSM provides). Any fix to the OEM return line would be an improvement. I broke the skinny male (barb) return line fitting during the first OEM filter change. Fortunately, the folks at Accurate Diesel sell an inexpensive aluminum fitting that solves this problem (Return Connection Repair kit, SKU ATS6711M). No surprise that HSM used a stainless barb. Again, the plastic OEM barb is very fragile and is easy to break (that’s what introduced me to Accurate Diesel).

had this happen before. A/C on the truck works really well, but this was dumping out of the driver side. secondary cooling system had emptied out, allowing the fuel to get real hot (service interval and idle time also played a factor). driver reported an odor but no loss of power towing up a big hill at 23kish GCVW, and then made it an additional 20 miles through modest hills and curves before we finally realized. there's no indicator on a 2015 if your secondary is empty or airlocked etc., other than your trans will heat up towing/in the hills.

When I bought my 2015 it had 20k miles on her. Didn’t have her a week and I’m at a light and get a low fuel pressure warning and I went to pull over and it went into limp mode. I parked and got out and there’s diesel everywhere. I opened the hood and it’s all over the top of my motor. Called Ford and had it towed in. The mechanic told me it was something at the upper fuel filter. He turned the key on to roll up the window and it sprayed everywhere again. Thankfully it didn’t catch on fire. I’d have to look in my paperwork to find out what it was exactly, but this looks like a must!

I can confirm that Baldwin BF46228 fits the HSM upper kit and offers superior filtration compared to the BF7967 at 4 microns absolute vs 4 microns nominal 15 microns absolute. The BF46228 is just a little longer maybe half an inch. I can also confirm the Donaldson P553203 which is a superior filter at 3 microns absolute instead of 10-15 like the cat filters works with the HSM lower. You can also install P569758 bowl so you can see the fuel and if there’s any water that needs drained. The 3 micron rating is better than the upper stock filter at 4 microns.

While it is a fuel filter for a Hino. It does not have the same micron rating. Motorcraft final filter is 4 micron absolute. These are 15 micron absolute and 4 micron nominal. They do flow a bit better but the filtration is not up to spec in my opinion. I’m not exactly why they chose that filter other than dimensions. Will it work, sure. The question is how long will it work for and is there any longevity loss from it. I absolutely think that PTT touch with the QD fuel fitting was an absolute must! Great work ARod!

I'm a diesel tech (big rig, not very much hands on with ford, chevy, dodge, etc) we had a guy next to us watch his whole truck burn today. 2015 6.7 powerstroke. He said he saw low fuel pressure light, then the truck cut off, and at that point he was already burning but didn't know it until he saw smoke through his vents and got out to see it. What are the main culprits? Common sense lead me to think a fuel line either leaked or blew out and ignited instantly. After some looking online im seeing a few videos about the filter. Is this filter/line assembly a widely known issue? Recalls? Or is it possible owner negligence in that he may have not have changed his filter regularly?

Too bad you couldnt have a quick connect on both side of that rubber hose to prevent cutting the factory line. Quick coonect barb to factory clip and then your setup on the other side.

Hey,I was just wondering 🤔 could I use this installed some where in my 2019 f250 6.2L ⛽️ gasser. As you know my model only has a forever fuel filter in the gas tank. I am trying to add a inline fuel filter.

Pretty cool install ARod. I like your model that you did. Way much easier for R&R of filter so when you buy the ford filter kit. You get the one for the lift pump so what do you do with the upper one? Can you just buy the lower filter?

Hey Arod, ordered 2 2022 super duties for delivery at the end of November. Love the upgrade but 2 questions. Would you recommend this for the 22's? And if I can talk ford dealership to do, should I install before I take delivery? Lastly, the clear or blue fuel filter. Did you do a video (couldn't find) and "ballpark) cost of both upgrades. Love videos and your knowledge

ARod, Whats your opinion of the filtration rating of the baldwin vs the stock filter? If I'm not mistaken the factory filter is far superior is terms of filtration which leaves me questioning if this mod is worth it given how sensitive the fuel system is.

You only have to remove the 2 big lines, the small can stay connected since it has been extended.
