I remember when I was a teenager Goodyear Firestone BFGoodrich all the big tire companies did that to there tire.they came with a white wall or white lettering that's how they were purchase .I t's sad to see that customers have to buy aftermarket products to make your tires look better it should be up to the tire company to offer that as an option my opinion anyways

I've found that it's best to install the letters OFF CAR! The pressure application is best with body weight gravity. I've applied them on-car, elevated, and at ground level. Applying on-car is possible, but it definitely takes more time to apply even spacing across the tire. Trust me, off car, clean REALLY GOOD, cut off the rubber tire nips making sure to start with a smooth surface, use THEIR ADHESIVE, (creating an outline then filling the inners, not using too much) apply to the tire and lean into your press (hold for 30 seconds), and continue application. I've done this about a dozen times now, including removal and reapplication. After a few applications, you'll get the swing of it. 😉

@sowellslove I’m currently installing mine. It is taking a ridiculous amount of time to clean them. I have a rag and acetone and I’ve probably scrubbed a section 30 times. The dirt is endless, the rage never comes up clean. These are new tires, only driven with them about 3-4 weeks. Do really need to keep going until the rag wipes clean?

I just finished mine; they look great-and so I have a few tips: 1)-when they say you’ll run out of adhesive/AND if you have allot of stickers-make sure to conserve adhesive; there’s allot of trouble spots to touch up and you’ll need that extra adhesive, also 2)-when they say apply pressure for 30 seconds; I think they meant 30 minutes??? Bottom line is: rubber cement is messy and doesn’t set fast like crazy glue-after pressure for 30 seconds everything like pulls away; I recommend fashioning clamps to apply pressure and clamping for thirty minutes at least-(I used shoelaces and small paperback books, and tied them down to apply even pressure for 30 minutes at least. Lastly: this is a very messy job for the average handyman; people who have experience with crafts and rubber cement might do a better and/or great job; but otherwise prepare yourself for daylong-(take your time) messy rubber cement work, use clamps, and conserve your adhesive-you’ll need it for any trouble spots

I've put tire lettering on many tires and I'll share some tips to help some of you out... 1) buy an extra tube of gorilla super glue cause you will run out. 2) make sure to cover ALL the edges with glue 3) tire lettering will last a lot longer and stay looking a lot nicer if you position lettering closer to rim rather then towards the top of the tire. 4) never put tire shine on tires cause it will stain the lettering.

This is a thorough and well explained video.Any decal work large or small can be a kick in the head sometimes and a video like this shows proper technique and patience.I’m ready to apply a black NISSAN decal over top of original raised letters grayish white decal on a 94 d21 and I wish you could walk me through that.Guy at the shop wants 25.00 to due it and I know it’s not a lot but 6 letters on a tailgate should be done by the truck owner lol. Sanding down the rubber to have an even finish, then cleaning the surface will help a lot. But we need to keep in mind how strong the sidewall of the tires are. For example I have both Federal 595 Super Steel Tires and Pirelli P Zero Run Flat. On the Federal 595 the letters came off after a few months. And on the Pirelli P Zero Run Flats they holding on just minor discoloration due to tire shiners but u can revive it with the tire markers. Also i have tried many adhesives. Such as rubber cement crazy glue gel, rubber adhesives, gorila glue gel, locktite super weld gel, and I will try contact cement now. Too see wich one holds the most. But in emphasis the stronger the your tire sidewall the more they will last.

Two things not mentioned here that ive seen threadwear stickers recommend is light sanding of the area you plan on placing the sticker on with like 120 grit paper and removing the rubber stubbled by hand in the same area. Not sure why these instructions dont mention that, since it kind of makes sense?

acetone and brake kleen are great for cleaning stuff but not on a tire. they take off the oil in and on the surface of the tire which the manufacturer put to prevent cracking to the sidewalls.

That's correct. Unlike other vids I've seen, it's local cleaning affecting the application site only. DO NOT use the strongest cleaner either. You want to remove the oils slowly where you're scrubbing from only. The embedded oil in the tire is added in the production of the tire to prevent premature aging from UV and road salts due to dry rotting. If you want to be even more select where the cleaner goes, mask off around the letters with duct tape. Once the lettering is applied, the tape can be pulled off and GooGone can be used to remove the tape residue without effecting the lettering.

Thanks for your feedback, though slightly inaccurate. The acetone will clean off the surface oil to assist with the bonding of the rubber decals. This is a standard practice in the industry, used by the tire companies and retreaders themselves. Yes, if you soak a tire in acetone that is bad for the tire, but a simply rag and prep will not cause any damage to the tire.

Tire Sticker Review: Cleaning the tire until the rag is clean is very tedious. Make sure you cut off the "whiskers" that are part of the tire molding process. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on this. I would allow the glue to set overnight before driving. I waited 2 hours, but after driving a lot of letters peeled off. Edge sealing is the worst part. It takes a long time I jacked up the car in order to spin the tires to get the glue to flow by gravity. I question the glue is the best type since I had problems. It seems more like super glue. I thought it would be good to use

For being a "professional" this guy didn't line the decal up straight at all. This isn't like applying trim tape to a window before painting, but that's how he did it. Totally screwed up the alignment. You have to ROLL any decal onto the surface like you're "peeling it off" but in reverse, to prevent air bubbles and wrinkles from forming. You don't adhere the ENDS first, you start in the middle and work OUT. I've installed decals on the rear windows of my SUV for all the audio equipment I've installed, not a single bubble or wrinkle and I didn't need a squeegee.

The adhesive is a special formula we have made specifically for our stickers. In terms of a tire sticker safe cleaner, we also have our own one that we can guarantee will not harm the sticker, anything else you try to use we cannot promise won't damage the sticker.

In simple terms yes, but the adhesive is not a standard 'super glue'. Using any off the shelf adhesive will ruin your tires and the product will not bond, this adhesive is custom developed. For prep of the tire, use acetone and our Touch Up cleaner is a custom cleaner that will not damage the rubber over time.

I can find nothing for Pirelli MT66 Route tires.

So if I’d want to install this on a Pirelli P Zero, would I use the decal over the rubber logo or would I have to sand off the rubber logo to make an even surface for the permanent sticker?

Pirelli is the only brand we do not sell- but we can do any other type of sticker for those tires if you want to get creative! In this instance you would sand down but for other tires we can also do tire letter matching which would fit right on top of the raised letters www.tirestickers.com/shop/tire-letter-match/

You do not need to go over the existing lettering, you can apply anywhere on the tire. The rubber will conform over tire surfaces without any issue or you can remove it if you prefer.

I purchased and installed these from ebay and after few days they started cracking. Any idea why? and what caused them to crack and get dry
