As a UI designer for games, and a big fan of the historic value (+consequent wider target audience), can I suggest making the minimap as subtle as possible to avoid the demo feeling too much like a 'game'? Perhaps provide the option to easily toggle it, in any case. Providing information is a great goal, but seeing history come to life with no overlay at all is also really great!
@pvandekuijt Жыл бұрын
Alternatively, you could consider a fully diegetic map, where you look down and see hands pulling up an actual map. See Metro: Exodus for a reference on it. Considering even holding physical maps this day and age seems to have become something from the past, it could add to the historic nature of this experience.

I do product development and program management for a living... one of the best pieces of advice in software development is "don't sacrifice good for great." The amazing thing about digital product development is that you can change the product after you deliver it to the customer. Tuning in what is worth spending time on is literally what separates successful startups from failures (amongst other things...). Keep fine tuning what "viable" means for your project so you can get your MVP out.

I was actually just on the Norwegian Pearl a few weeks ago on a cruise to Bermuda. My second cruise ever: I had a blast. All these updates are very cool, especially the Arrol Gantries. I just love how Kyle can't find the time to finish off the ship, yet he finds time to finish both the cranes and much of Belfast lol _(Ik Ik, two very different things, but still)._ I wouldn't have it any other way though: it just feels necessary. Maybe once Kyle finishes enough of Titanic's structure, he can then "launch" her out of the slipway _(highlight and drag her out lol)_ and proceed to finish the rest of her where there's space. I do agree: there is simply no one who does it better than him. I also love the idea of the mini-map: that's a must. I personally don't need it since I have a natural sense of direction unlike most people, but for others it would be a very useful feature. As long as there's an option to disable it and the rest of the UI, I'm all good. Keep up the hard work, and before I go, my thoughts and prayers to the crew of the Titan submersible. If they're still alive, they're running out of time, and they need to be saved as fast as possible.

Two points: 1) Please make the minimaps optional. I really like the design in titles like Elden Ring that encourage players to explore a space without holding their hand. A lack of a minimap and markers forces the passenger to gain a true understanding of the ship. It's also much more authentic since passengers didn't have a minimap in 1912. 2) Have you guys looked into Fluid Flux? This plugin for the Unreal Engine is amazing at realistically simulating water flooding. Even if this was only used for your cinematics, it would be a huge upgrade in the fidelity of your presentations. Combined with your model, you might even be able to gain new insites into how the ship actually flooded that no one has previously understood.
