James Cameron's rescue ideas are intriguing;the idea of reversing engines and backing out of the ice floe/field reminds me of the Russian film Admiral, where Admiral Aleksandr Kolchak uses the same technique to reverse through a minefield.Fascinating program, thanks for sharing!Love Tony's many adventures in time and archaeology.

his idea of dropping passengers on the iceberg is fanciful but not out of the realms of possibility either. they would of cleared the berg really quickly though it'd be like 4-5 miles behind them before they stopped. they'd of had to keep going and yes go in reverse like he said to reduce flooding

Sacrificed their lives for so little? These men did their duty to help keep people as calm as they could during a catastrophic event, knowing they were probably going to die anyways, and went out on top. Consummate professionals all, to be respected and remembered.

You couldn't have put people on that iceberg, have no idea the size or shape of it or even if it had any spots for people to cling on to or even sit or stand. and you have no clue how far the ship drifted after they hit the iceberg. They didn't immediately stop they were probably nowhere near it after they realized what was going on.

That's bull that white star made the widows of the band members pay for the lost uniforms like really they tried to keep the people calm. Then they said they didn't finish their job. It white stars fault for the mess.

“A heroic myth’s been built up around that band. But I still find it hard to believe that they sacrificed their lives for so little’ - Tony Robinson, sceptical that the ship’s band really did play on til the end. Wrong. They weren’t playing for the employers who cheated them or the passengers who barely listened. If they thought they were going to miss out on a seat in the lifeboats, (very likely) and were going to drown, all the musicians I know would have done just one thing - kept making music with their bandmates til the end - because that’s what they loved to do; that’s what made them happier than just about anything else in life. That’s why musicians are musicians.

Don't blame it all of Frederick Fleet for not seeing the iceberg 10 seconds earlier and maybe the whole thing wouldn't never happen. We're all humans, we make mistakes. Plus, it was dark outside and he had no binoculars.

to tell you the truth, musicians were probably more aware than any of the classists on that ship. they didnt sacrifice anything, they probably were savoring their last moments doing what they love, knowing there wasnt enough lifeboats and men were last. why go out screaming when its inevitable? play music and enjoy god.

I wonder if the design of titanic n her size the rear ships rudder was too small for her length ie titanic was 882 feet long n a small rudder was quite simply not big enough to turn such a large ship like titanic

What annoys me is that more damage has ocurred since the discovery because of titanic inc constantly salvaging...thousands of items sat in plastic containers filled with water in wharehouse storage!..no one will ever see these items, maybe a handful at an exhibition if your lucky..the crows nest was destroyed when they wrestled the telephone from the cable. The wirless room roof destroyed by the constant landing of subs...

i love it when James Cameron takes out theories out of his ass that makes no sens .Like he would have done better than those guys did on the Titanic .I don't know if you know Dummy but by the time they stopped the shipt completly and calculated the damages more than an hours already had went by and that icebirg was already miles away from them and restarting steam engins take a fuc...g long time to achieve so no way to get those people on the icebirg in time cause only one hour was left untill the ship went completly under .I find it hard to figure out how such a ritch guy that dierected so many grossing movies comes up with so retard solution about what could have been done when the titanic hit the icebirg . He must of got a brain freeze from to many dive to the wreck .

If they had opened the watertight (emergency)doors, the ship would have sunk flat, at a right attitude, not broken in half, perhaps have floated long enough for rescue. Putting people on the iceberg is a great idea too.

Having the movie Maker accompany the exhibition was a silly idea. He just wants to promote the fake rendition of the Titanic. He knows damn well JP Morgan and Bruce Ismay blew the ship in half, and that's what made it sink! Cpt Smith was not even on deck. He was sleeping. The lt successfully dodged the very, I believe. Nobody heard or felt any crash. But they did hear a massive explosion. There was also a hole made under the watertight windows. That helped water to wenter even though there watertight windows were all locked. There's much more. I m too tired to share anything else.

Murdoch saw the berg before Fleet did. He immediately ordered hard-a-starboard and ordered a stop, not a full astern. The chief stoker saw the red light meaning stop. If Murdoch had ordered full astern, no red light was needed. Because the boilers needed to output the same steam for full ahead or full astern. Fleet said the ship started turning the second he hung up the phone, this would be impossible unless Murdoch saw the berg first and acted immediately. The crew acted as fast as they could, but due to optical illusions and a lack of moonlight, they were never going to turn the ship in time.
