This is from Title Match Network's exclusive new series with the legendary Greg Valentine. Find out from the Hammer how he ended up being managed by "Mouth of the South" Jimmy Hart.
Jimmy Hart started out in Memphis Wrestling in the late 1970s before working for Vince McMahon. When Hart entered the WWF, his first wrestler to manage was none other than Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.
We also briefly talk about Greg's time in WCW with Taylor Made Man, who audiences remember as Terry Taylor aka the Red Rooster.

I totally agree about Greg "The Hammer" giving an interesting story. He can take a wrestler, a match, or subject theme and weave them together in an interesting, intelligent manner. He's not bitter...Valentine's always complimentary of other wrestlers. He lived it...and still loves the business!!! He had a Blast and the Wrestlers were his friends/family! Love the interviews...raspy voice and all !!!

It’s a pleasure to hear from “The Hammer”! He never seems to have an axe to grind against anyone. He focuses on the positive, the good times, the reasons why it was a fun gig and a cool way to make a living. Hearing from the bitter isn’t any fun. Hearing from a professional who still talks about it as a profession, is great!

EVEN THE HOBOS STILL WORE SUITS!!... NOW THEY MIGHT OF BEEN WORN OUT OLD DIRTY SUITS... but at least they were well crafted! 😆 Now a days people just don't give a shit and they wear bullshit. 😒

Was on a flight with Savage to Florida once way back in the 90s. He looked exactly like Hammer said. Tie-die t-shirt, sunglasses, and he did have his hat. Ran into him again at the Tampa tram to the luggage terminal. Spoke briefly. He asked what we (my father and 2 brothers) were doing down in FL from NYC and we said we came to play golf. He turns to the window and sees the rain and in his Savage voice turns back and deadpans "you got good weather." Seemed like a good guy from that brief interaction.

Back in the day, my favorite wrestlers were the people who could talk the best. The ones that can make me laugh and entertain me with their interviews. I love the format of the wrestler and a little announcer like Mean Gene Okerlund holding the microphone. And of course Gene was great because he would talk back. I hate what they do now which is stand in the middle of the ring and talk to the crowd. It is just not the same.

I have to admit, with MANY wrestling interviews, I take them with a grain of salt. TOO many wrestlers, and former wresters, are still telling stories.I always get the feeling they are saying what they know people want to hear. With Mr Valentine, I don't get that impression. For one, he never builds himself up, and for two, he seems loathe to pile on anyone, either (You can tell that there is a code among wrestlers, by how often they will say negative things about others). Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us, Greg!

You know, I'm starting to think there really is this MiB thing going on. Jimmy Hart has to be an alien. Seriously, he looks no older today in 2021 than he did at the original Wrestlemania back in 1980-bloody-5!!!! Jimmy Hart as a manager was actually one of the more successful. He always seemed to be managing someone who had the IC and/or Tag titles (men's and women's because he also managed The Glamour Girls (Judy Martin and Leilani Kai) when they were women's tag champs) in the WWF and the US, Tag and even World titles in WCW. You had managers who were always chasing gold, but as part of their character rarely got it, and managers who were rarely without a title in their stable. Jimmy was part of the latter.

@@michaelmercury1297 Thanks for your consideration. I've seen a little of the Grand Wizard and he was great at his job, too. But sorta before my time. Your picks are certainly good ones. I find it very interesting that the all these managers are best known for their heel work. They had a lot more material and options to work with than anyone representing a baby face wrestler. If it wasn't for heels and their managers, professional wrestling would have never existed. I've always been drawn to wrestling more because of heel personas and interviews than the actual matches themselves. Can anyone here name a baby face manager who was just as important at drawing money as the heel managers were?
