Raffaele Attilio Amedeo Schipa "Tito Schipa" (1888 1965) was an Italian tenor. He is considered one of the finest tenore di grazia in operatic history. He was endowed with a natural, sensuous voice, which he deployed with great intelligence and taste.

Fewer and fewer people understand the difference between this greatness and disaster of today's opera. Everyone gets "bravo", "meraviglio", "great" e.t.c. here on KZbin. Schipa's voice is an epitome of Tenore di Grazia, yet DARK, masculine, fully on chest (with some proper head singing on piano), his vowels are CLEAR, not nasal or throated (which is considered "pretty and lyric" today), not to mention he has the model style and taste.

First time I heard Schipa was on a Sunday radio show on KUSC. One of the only times I have ever pulled off to the side of the road to listen to something - it made that much of an impression on me. I thought 'by God he get's it right'. Probably my favorite 'historic' singer.

Leggiero tenors are known for often being miscategorized as baritones early in development because they often have a ton of chest resonance in their lower range.

@@karlschuler My teacher is not sure, but told me I'm a leggero because of how easy I hit higher notes at the same time my lower register almost doesn't exist. And I can't sing as dark as he does (lyric). And I was wondering if I could be a baritenor somehow, because it isn't easy for me even to sing on my higher register. My resistance is bad even in the region I should be good. Now, the other guy said even leggeros have good chest resonance. I'm done with it! Either I have a subtle vocal trait disease or I might just be an aberration in the bad sense when it comes to singing.
