TiVo MINI LUX…….AWESOME

Thanks, nice video. I just ordered the TiVo Mini Lux! I have a basement entertainment room with a large-screen 55 inch LG TV I love, and I have a TiVo Bolt with TiVo's special Wi-Fi adapter! I have Cox and they messed up my Cox minibox which my wife and daughters use in the family room (35-inch Sony w/ Cox mini box the basics + Apple TV + Roku you name it). I recently updated my TiVo Bolt system with Cox's pain in the ass Tuning Adapter and the TiVo Bolt works great now w/ Cox Tuning Adapter! Cox always messes up something they took my family's family room Sony TV Cox minibox off the service!! Dumb asses!! So I decided to try and use the TiVo Mini Lux upstairs to share TiVo Bolt (my family loves TiVo anyway) in the family room. Can't wait to remove Cox!!!

@@TomMarkel-gplus thanks. Enjoy; sounds like an awesome setup. Wish my basement was at least partially finished. I have the older TiVo WiFi adapter, I think it’s wireless G and it couldn’t keep up so I had to hard wire the mini. But like anything, one day of PITA wiring then you’re good to go forever. I’m working on wiring for the starlink mini I just picked up in case of an emergency. And I tore through an existing flat Ethernet cable. Had to rewire the whole thing. @@mikedfranklin don’t do it until you know what’s going on with your cable company and cable cards. As of October mine won’t work according to cablevision. There was some sort of cable card mandate by the fcc that expired which allows the companies to discontinue their use. Without a cable card there is no TiVo (at least no multi channel tivo . So check it out first.

Thanks for the video!! It was mostly what I expected in terms of functionality. I have also had problems with WiFi between TiVos. So, no surprise for me there. What I did learn was that the Mini Lux can do live TV from your other TiVo. Yay!! My only question not answered completely was to see how big the box was. I also want to mount behind my TV. Just my TV is outside on the back porch. Now I just have to decide if I can give up a tuner. My Roameo has 4 tuners. But, I often have issues where I need all 4. Especially during college football season. Thanks Again!!

@@sjmyst1 glad you liked it. One thing to keep in mind. As great as TiVo is (I’ve had it since it first came out at least 20 years ago), my cable provider (optimum in NY) just informed me that as of October 24 cable cards will no longer function on their network. That makes TiVo worthless. Five tuners unable to pull scrambled signals from my cable company equals bye bye TiVo. And I’m not the only one. It’s happening with many providers. TiVo has forums on their website so have a look at those. The mini is tiny. But since we ONLY have optimum in my area (no fios) were screwed. Definitely look into it before buying the mini and good luck.

Thank you for a really nice comment. They do make a dongle that will work over wifi, however both the mini and your primary unit need to be on the same network. It didn’t work because of the layout of my house, but it might work for your home. I’ve gotten a few comments from people that have used the wifi successfully. Thank you again for the nice comment.

There are some pretty good ones already. I spend my time watching KZbin on the Shield. It’s fast to load, has voice input, and you can side load apkS that aren’t in the App Store. It’s the best.

I have the mini (older version) that we use with our 2 tivo's (Romio, Bolt) The only thing I wish it had was to be able to undelete stuff and control recording (onepass)

Does the Mini LUX have the WiFi built it or do you have to but a separate dongle for it? My home WiFi will have no problem using this wirelessly.

Holy cow I’m not positive so I don’t want to give you the wrong information. I THINK I had to buy a wifi dongle that I wound up returning because of the connectivity and distance from the router. I’ll rewatch the video. If it comes to me I’ll edit this post. Thanks for watching. It’s fantastic though. No different from the main box and system edit. Start watching at 1:20. Yes you would need a dongle and it needs to be on the same network as the main box.

Yes. Absolutely no limitations unless you were to use all five tuners at once , like if you were recording 5 things at once on the main Bolt. It would be the same as if you didn’t have the mini. It’s as good as having two full bolts. No restrictions in use at all.

So the Bolt is in the basement not hooked up to a monitor? Why even buy the Lux then? Why not just use the Bolt upstairs? Seems your wasting the advantage of two boxes. Must be a reason, am I missing something?

At 7:26 you can see the monitor that the bolt is hooked up to via an hdmi. Since the bolts remote (as well as my nvidea shields remote) are now rf, and not line of site, I put both of those in the basement and ran hdmi cords up from the basement behind the sheet rock and to the first floor. I also have wired Ethernet switch down in the basement so they both have a wired connection. Just did all that for a clean connection although it doesn’t look that way now since we stuck my kids Nintendo switch on that tv as well and just ran a cable to it for now. If the bolt wasn’t connected to a tv you would be right. There would have been no reason for the mini. It’s now exactly like 2 bolts sharing 6 tuners. Really great.

@@Samlol23_drrich gotcha. Thanx for the quick response. I've been debating about upgrading from the bolt to the Edge or instead just getting the Lux. Seems the Lux is the logical choice monetarily speaking. Also, I noticed the sound effects on your tivo were the old ones. Did you know you can update the Bolt to perform like the Edge? I bought a new remote with voice activation for the Bolt but requires you to update the box, which I believe gives you access to Dolby Atmos sound but you lose the menu sound effects by default when set like this. Thats how I noticed, I hadn't heard the sound effects in a couple years, miss those. DING!

@@mav2553 honestly I hardly use the TiVo any more. I’m stuck on you tube 24/7. I didn’t even know there was an “edge” but I’ll definitely look into it now out of curiosity. It was just a matter of not having any TVs upstairs until this one, and after I put it up, the rest of the family wasn’t happy with only receiving the internet. Thought about renting another cable box until I realized the mini was cheap and did everything a cable box would do and more. So we went that way. It’s really perfect for us. Thanks for the suggestion re; edge. I’ll def check it out.
