Wow OLA, nice 18 and a quarter inch fish. That area looked fishy for sure. You yanked the hookset on fish number four @7:29. You got into them good with that mag finesse worm. That definitely was a heart breaker on that big one. Do you think the line actually broke or the knot gave? I've heard that braid on a spinnerbait will do that. At least you got one after it. And wow it bent the spinnerbait out. Nice 4 pounder. Very cool video as always.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
I think the line broke down close to the knot. I had tied a Palomar and it's very reliable. I bet it snagged on that brush during the fight. That lake was super active. It's usually only small 🐟. Thank you for watching.

@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dave! Yes.... super important to have a follow up bait. I knew that fish was still in the area after he ate those pincers. haha. I actually have 50 lb braid on my HEAVY rod. I keep 30 on my MED/HEAVY rod. A lot of the comments think that braid must have had a nick or cut or something. It did snap easily. Who knows! I was happy to get the consultation fish though. haha.
@duanemccarron95495 жыл бұрын
I'm going to say your line broke at or near the knot? I started doubling braid thru the eye, making a circle and twisting the looped end around the 4 lines 5x. Youll have 3 tag ends once trimmed. Have NEVER broken at knot in 3 years. Similar to a knot I've seen Swindle and Grigsby utilize. Love your vids, keep jackin em!
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Dave. I definitely need to look at my line more often. It was a break off that I'm sure was preventable. I had not checked it since I started fishing that morning. That lake is full of brush. It was a Palomar knot. Thanks for the line tip.

10 Bass is a great day 👍👍 to bad on losing the big girl, I don't throw the spinnerbait much anymore for reason of how easy they break, good for about 25 maybe 30 Bass depending on there size,the Chatterbait last longer and stronger,awesome video 👊👍🏆
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ken. I absolutely love a spinnerbait when there's long grass like that. Nothing goes thru as cleanly as the spinnerbait. And those big girls just love it. Spinnerbaits are fairly cheap too. I can afford to replace after 25 fish.

Trailer or no trailer ? I guess I use both depending on whether I want a bigger profile or not. That one you lost looked like a tank and the next one helped make up for it. I can’t believe thumbing your spool would break 30 lb. braid even with a 6 pounder on the other end. My guess would be your line got nicked somehow. Anyways it ended up being a Good day getting ready to break into the top 10 . Oh and congrats on being one of this weeks giveaway winners for Titus’ channel “YourNextCast”. Have a great week. Don

Thank you so much BTO. I was in shock about the broken line but you're right ... had to have been nicked. There's a ton of brush in this lake.

Trailer OR No Trailer on your spinnerbait?
@Uncle_Yukon5 жыл бұрын
Spinnerbait - plastic trailer worm: always, even with a trailer hook, almost always a white plastic trailer. Buzzbait = trailer hook: always, plastic trailer - pretty much never. Conserning a 'trailer hook'. Almost never on a spinnerbait, when it cools down the bass can short strike more, so I use a trailer hook, even with a plastic trailer worm
@Uncle_Yukon5 жыл бұрын
I have a trailer hook on right now, but not usually, but with fall here, the Bass can be a little slower and so short strikes, the trailer hook is helpfull. Plastic trailer worm: spinnerbait: pretty much always. Buzzbait: plastic trailer almost never, trailer hook: always.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
@@Uncle_Yukon I tend to use a trailer hook on some of my buzz baits. Since you have to keep them moving at a fairly good clip to keep them on top of the water. I get more short strikes on that.
@countrygirlfishing5 жыл бұрын
Trailer for sure usually what blends in but I do a contrast too!!!
@Uncle_Yukon5 жыл бұрын
Oh me and my slowness. Trailer as in plastic worm: spinnerbait - always, buzz bait almost never. Trailer hook: spinnerbait once in awhile, buzzbait pretty much always. Spinnerbait plastic trailer worm is almost always white regardless of anything else.

@@OldLadyAngler Going thru the brush the knot itself could have been cut or rubbed enough to break.

@@Uncle_Yukon I think my thumb had something to do with it too. That's when it snapped.
@Uncle_Yukon5 жыл бұрын
@@OldLadyAngler Yes, which is one of the couple/few things I hate about baitcasters, with my small hands and short fingers my thumb seems to be on the spool a lot. But a 6 pound bass shouldn't be able to break good 30 pound braid.
@Uncle_Yukon5 жыл бұрын
I use braid on my small crankbaits also. Now and then I see a fray up the line a little, like 10 feet, and more sometimes. I think it's when the breeze blows or my cast gets the line over a dock or branch and strands of the braid break, get weak and break later.

Great video to bad you lost that donkey but I do have a question and my question is did you have the drag on your rod when you lost that big bass? Or maybe had your finger on the spool? I know that was 2? lol but anyway I did like the way you fish your so calm just like I am when I go fishing. I watch other fishing videos and you get a lot of guys yell and screaming. Anyway keep making these videos I really enjoy your videos.
@OldLadyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Therese. Yes the drag was on. This was one strong fish. That's why I think he was over 5 lbs. He was taking me for a ride big time. I did put my thumb on the spool. And I believe that's why the line snapped. If you watch the video.... I show you right when I thumbed it. Yeah... I don't care for all the yelling and screaming either. It is so distracting.

Good day of fishing. I love fishing in shallow, grassy areas like that. Do you know if the price went up on the new Propel pedal drive? Thinking about getting a new one for my Slayer & putting the old one on my second kayak. That big girl will live & bite again. I wouldn’t be surprised if you have another encounter with her.
