All of my stradic reels have been upgraded to Vanfords and I actually just ordered a Vanford 2000 for my med/light travel rod. I'm all set for a few years.

Hi T. I'm glad you like the Vanford. I have reels with felt and carbon drag washers and I can't tell the difference. I think the felt washers will be fine, unless you hook a great white shark. It looks like the bass fishing in FL will be good this fall and winter. Take care and good luck, Mickey

Been watching reviews on this reel trying to figure out what size i should get but seeing you use the fluke with it im gonna pick the 2500. Fluke and ned rig are my fave things to use. I would of got the 2000 but only 7lbs of drag seems to light for me.

It's a rod floaty. I lost a brand new rod & reel overboard a few years ago. It sank quickly to the bottom of the lake and I never found it. The floaties have been on ever since. They work!

It looks like the spool on the Vanford 2000s is so shallow that all of the line could be cast off of it. Has that ever happened to you or anyone else?

Sounds like an awesome combo. I already had the St. croix rod, so I used that. It's my very favorite rod... Avid X M/F. I'm not opposed to trying Shimano rods tho.

Any updates on opening the internals up? Idk if I did the right thing of ordering carbon drag washers from the 3000 series for the 2500. Hope they are same size for interchangeable.

No I have not opened it up yet. I went to shimano's parts page and they don't have the vanford listed yet. Not sure if they're the same size as the 3000.

it's a 2500 and it's on a St. Croix Avid X M/F 6'6" rod. It's my favorite combo. I'd like to get a 3000 and put it on a M/H rod for my brackish water fishing.

Yes absolutely. The felt washers burn up quickly otherwise. Yes the larger reels came with carbon. I actually prefer the felt. Feels smoother to me.

@@dannymasas8539 the braid makes a very different sound when reeling. Wait until you get it all set up and do some casting and reeling with a lure tied on. It will sound different.

They are rod floaties. If one goes overboard, I can just grab it. I lost a rod and reel in Lake Monroe. Sank to the bottom.

@@OldLadyAngler thats actually smart. Ive never saw that done before. I fish extensively out of a kayak and lost a stradic ci4+ that was on a zodias rod about a year ago. Could have really used this idea. Lol

@@caseydangar1193 OMG I would have died if I lost a combo like that!! That's why I got the floaties. My combo that I lost was a shimano symtre on a st. croix triumph. Less than $150.... but still. It was heartbreaking. Sometimes when I reach back to grab a rod, the handle hooks on my other rod and pulls it out. That's how I nearly had one go overboard. No worries with the floaties. They were only about $5 on the clearance aisle at walmart. Bass Pro and Amazon both sell them for about $10. Good investment in my case.
