Came back to rewatch after a few months of now playing this, its one of those tunes that is so satisfying to play and never want to end, and I notice at the end of the track you continue to play after the music fades, which made me smile. So much feel in this rendition, so thankful you shared it. From you Ive become more aware of how to think ahead for my hand positions to make it easier to fret upcoming parts. Love watching you do it.
@TJH31132 ай бұрын
Welcome back! I've very glad that you liked it. I started to play a little bit past the music a while ago in order to let people hear what the bass was doing on its own. That has evolved into playing nearly the entire song with just the bass, or sometimes with a drum track. I'm very flattered to hear that you picked up something from my playing that might be helpful to yours. I think this particular habit is very important and really helps to prevent the unnecessary mistakes that come from making long, quick jumps to different parts of the neck. Good muting technique is also in my Top 3 list of important playing techniques. The more you do it, the more second-nature it will become until, one day, you won't even have to think about doing it, your hands will just know what to do. Thanks and take care.

I was "mildly" fond of the Cars when they came out when I was in High School...the "New Wave" stuff wasn't well received from the Led Zep, Fog Hat, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd types (one of which I was) but we all had to say The Cars sounded like nothing else around...and now 40 years or so later I wish I was a Fan back then, KZbin has great live footage of them. As a Guitarist, Elliot Easton had some of the COOLEST and most creative solos of the that era. Your Playing is great!!! RIP Ben Orr
@TJH31136 жыл бұрын
I definitely have a greater appreciation for them now than I did back then. I guess they were a little less "new wavy" than a lot of other acts that were coming out around that time. Yeah, Elliot Easton is incredible. As I said on another comment, he almost creates little songs within the songs during his guitar solos. Thanks a lot.

This bass is a bit more of a "blender" but I haven't worked with it at all yet. Haven't even changed the strings. It's definitely got possibilities though...very well made and comfortable. Hi, I discovered your channel sort of by accident. I was searching for Cars stuff the other day after Rics passing but not looking for bass covers. Then spent about an hour watching your other videos. They are fantastic and your covers are spot on. Your lines for this song seem a little busier (love it BTW) and I cant figure out if they are muted a little on the original studio cuts or if you added a little flavor!! Either way, I seem to be a little addicted to this one! Keep up the good work!
@TJH31135 жыл бұрын
Hello and welcome. Thanks for the kind words. I usually try to play the songs as closely to the way they were recorded as I can and rarely add anything additional (if I do add anything, I will always state that I have). I would say that the bass is a bit muted on the original recording and on a lot of Cars songs in general. Thanks again.

Those SB-602 Pilots from the first couple of years (‘83-‘84) with the scratchplate and the “foot” headstock are one of my top 5 favorite basses. I’ve got a Pilot that was one of the first 100 off the line in ‘83 ... but it has the unfortunate “hockey stick” headstock that was ubiquitous in that age of pointy guitars ... also have an ‘85 factory fretless with the “cake cutter” headstock ... but the foot with peaked logo is my all time fave. Where and when did you get it?

Yes, I actually liked the look of the pick-guarded basses over the solid topped ones. I got it back n May of 2018 off of Reverb. It's probably one of the basses I will be letting go in the near future, if you have any interest in it. I paid $700 for it, but, as with anything I sell, I'll be asking less than that for it.
