36:24 As you were talking about this bit, it occurred to me that another reason Molly is represented as a crossdresser in Sherlock's mind could be that he views her as a person who is trying to be "his type." And of course Molly is often doing herself up in ways meant to attract Sherlock to her (lipstick, Christmas everything, etc). However, when the stage of reality is Sherlock's own mind, we get to see Sherlock's idea of what he's attracted to: MEN. So Molly dressing up as a man could be read as another effort to win Sherlock's affections, with the added bonus of being a mental projection and therefore having the advantage of knowing what it is he REALLY likes and what he's REALLY attracted to. Obviously the primary thing is how sexism sucked even more than usual back in the day, but this sort of reading fascinates me. I should add I don't think Sherlock's mental Molly is doing it on purpose to win his affections, it's not conscious on her part, rather it is subconscious on Sherlock's part.

Amiitsu10 Perhaps it's the most simplistic reason, that she could not have practiced if she were not in disguise. Sherlock would want his mind palace to be as accurate to the time period as possible so his projection of Molly would not be dressed up as a woman.

So I pretty much just lurk in this fandom, seeing as how I came really late to the party and don't have anything to add, but I just wanna say that this video series is THE BEST. I legit look forward to new videos with crazy anticipation ever since I found the first batch a few weeks ago and binge watched them all in a day LOL. Thanks for the vid! An entire vid on Molly, I love it! So many parallels you drew, I’m grinning. I love Molly’s character. How she dealt with unrequited love is inspiring. I wished her character were treated better overall. I always thought that Sherlock was kind of jealous of Molly, and how free she was with her feelings, that’s why he often treated her poorly. He respected her more, closer to the end of the series and that made me appreciate Sherlock more. His envy became more apparent because Sherlock “abhors” emotion, sentiment, thinks it holds his logic and prowess back, but he was so far from the truth being a person with a big soft heart. I love when in queer-coding series, the creators use blatantly romantic songs. The song, “¿Dondé estás, Yolanda?” By Pink Martini, sounds fun but is also rather heartbreaking, much like how it turned out with Sherlock looking for John here. The “dance” they’re doing is fun but the lyrics are heartbreaking. I take Sherlock to be very atypical in many ways; on the Autistic Spectrum, aro-spec, and bi/gay. If fans examine him through a typical lens, he’s even more of an enigma. He also “abhors” emotion more than he wrongfully thinks is holds him back but that he was very emotionally blocked by “Redbeard.” When Mycroft saw Sherlock being softer with John, being selfless, being his best man, he used the trigger word “Redbeard” to see if Sherlock jumped that hurdle of being emotionally blocked but not yet.

I left the Sherlock fandom a while back due to the general toxicity of the fandom, but this series dragged me back kicking and screaming. But asexuality means only that someone is not interested in having sex for example because he/she don't feel sexual attraction to people. It doesn't mean, that such a person can't fall in love with someone. Benedict said once that Sherlock avoid sex for a reason, because it would get in the way of his work. But repressing sexual needs it's actually not the real meaning of asexuality. I think Sherlock is not really an asexual person. By the way, the creators, especially Moffat, lied so often in the past. You shouldn''t believe all things what they say. And a man, who is so clearly not interested in women, can't be impossible straight and noone can convince me otherwise. Mofftiss didn't say explicit that Sherlock isn't gay. They were never pro or contra, always neutral, so that everyone can form their own opinion about Sherlocks sexuality. And, to be honest, the creators have often lied in the past, you should not all believe what they say.

She is making a video on Molly because for the whole 41 minutes she said one thing: "Sherlock Loves John". Although she made a very good explanation, I literally didn't feel she herself gave importance to Molly's character. Speaking of Molly, she is very intelligent and dedicated to what she does, but an area where she lacks confidence is that she knows what she is doing and knows that Sherlock is manipulating her (mentioned in the video also). And being a fan of Molly's character, I literally hate her review or explanation (whatever), but I think Molly played an important role in Sherlock's life. It was not a main role, but she was so impotent that Sherlock's sister used her against him. The fact was that Sherlock's sister was way more intelligent, smart, and good at deduction than Sherlock. I understand that the producers didn't want the Molly character, but the actress did an excellent job of demonstrating the interesting chemistry between Sherlock and Molly, and after Molly joined the series, she established her own space, character, and impression, so it's wrong to make two different characters the same and not equalise them, and indirectly imply that Molly was a cheaper version of John, in which Sherlock was not interested. And request that the lady who made the tital change it to (explanation of Sherlock and Watson's relationship). Not only that, but she ruined Mary's character by implying (indirectly) that John was looking for someone unrelated to crimes and Sherlock, but ended up meeting someone as troublesome as Sherlock, and that he was unhappy in marriage after the wedding. There are many points that should be included.

The video is called TJLC (The Johnlock Conspiracy) Explained: Molly Hooper. Not just Molly Hooper. The entire series is (was?) about Sherlock and John and the evidence for the romantic reading. It's called Molly Hooper because it is about the way the creator views Molly as proving TJLC. The same way that The Elephant in The Room video isn't about the phrase in general, but about the phrase in a specific context. So I don't think the way they titled it is at all deceptive. If it was just titled about Molly, then I could see someone just stumbling on the video without any context and expecting something else. (It's also stated in the title it is the 15th episode of the series, so it's connected to the author's other work).

just noticed that at 20:53 that molly is wearing the bi flag colours! Maybe Molly symbolizes a version of John that is comfortable being bi because he (in molly's universe) had the privilege of being normal in society. Both John and Molly show an exaggerated heteronormative view, what with the weddings (who needs those?), the serial dating, needing to get some, etc. Although Sherlock is in modern-day London, it's like he's stuck in 1895. Gay marriage wasn't even legal when the show was made. Improvement has been made but the fight is still being fought. I think that's a big thing they're trying to portray - that society still largely has eyes in their coffee and coffee in their eyes. They ought to visit 221B and have a cuppa. I think it's funny because my boomer parents ship sherlolly, especially my dad lol. And my mom always remembers the bungee cord version of the fall even though we know that's just Anderson's view. Come on, we know better than to take Anderson's opinion; it's bollocks. But maybe it's because heteronormativity is more engrained in them and I have actual eyes so I can see the love. But NOW I am gaining Johnlock goggles, and film analysis goggles! Thank you! Love the series!
