I grew up in a Canadian fishing village using nets for herring and mackerel, lobster traps and long lines for halibut, cod and haddock off a 26' inshore boat with no hydraulics; everything set and recovered by hand. Mid 70's now and enjoy watching how you do it down under. Thanks for the content.

Thanks mate, my grandfather fished for lobster from a row boat hauling his traps by hand. They were hard men in those days. Dad was a trawlerman back in the days when they didn't have net rollers. The dried the codend up by hand with the help of the roll of the boat before using the lifting boom to bring the codend onboard. We have it a lot easier these days.

Breaks your heart seeing so much plastic in the water hey. When I lived at sea in the RAN some days you’d just feel sick the amount of rubbish in the water. Merchant ships form a decent percentage of that stuff but it comes from everywhere, mostly North as you’d know. Keep up the great content. 👍

Yeah I think the Islands to the north of Australia need to rethink how they dispose of their rubbish. Tipping it directly into the ocean is not a option.

Looks like the crew feel the crane is more work and headaches than it takes to just flip up the trap
@tkoffshorefishing5 күн бұрын
We have 3 different sized traps at present which is a pain in the butt, they use the Crane on the heavier ones

The ocean level increased by around 400 feet LESS than twenty thousand years ago, at the end of the last ice age. Land spring back and subsidence are still happening today, Mexico has been sinking since the ice sheet on north America melted and north America is still rebounding.

Hey TK I’m not sure if you have mentioned it before but do you do any brain spiking or bleeding? Or just straight in the ice slurry
@tkoffshorefishing5 күн бұрын
Straight into the slurry. I have always iki jime my fish but the company I am now working for don't want the process done to the fish.
