Really funny. I made a Gnarly Meemo more than 2 years ago with these motors and props and it's same weight as your heavy build (yeah you sure feel it). Also with rubber band and a nano VTX and nano 3 cam. Used a Eachine novice-I 1-2S board. Still love this thing. Your build is like a next level. Nice job.

A couple of tips regarding rubber bands... I used to build a lot of rubber powered models and some of the wings of my 2M sailplanes are still attached with rubber bands. 1) Use two to hold anything of value (such as that Insta360) ... don't leave anything with rubber bands on it out in the sun, and...oil them ever so slightly and they will last a lot longer ...they weaken when either exposed to UV, or if they dry out.

Greate video. I also have the uz85 moved to a 105mm frame. In my case I use the redevil 105mm frame + 2.5" props + crazybeeX v2.2 + eachine vtx nano v1 + xm+ receiver. This combination has a reason: One day the antenna pad went off, so I get an external receiver. Another day some ESC mosfet burned so I get a new v2.2 FC with the PNP option. Some days later the onboard VTX didn't work anymore, so I get an external VTX (crazybeex v2.2 has that option, v1.0 not). I finally I mounted it on a 105 frame haha Some things that I recommend in my experience with that FC: Flash ESC 16.9 over the stock 16.8 (it will save your drone in some crashes, I lost 2-3 FC with the 16.8 version, seems that the props get stuck and the mosfet burns). Another thing, I also used a printed canopy like yours (the blue one) and was the day that my onboard VTX died. After that day I printed a closed canopy to protect all my board, it's double weight but it's ok for me. I did a design of it by mixing the blue one with another one which has 4 holes with a spider web design. You can find it by searching "caddx ant lite canopy" in thingiverse (it's the green one). I really appreciate that you shared the "emax tape", I was searching for it but I never known how to search it. I think it's so usefull when you share specific tools/material related to drones. Last day I removed the circlips from the 1102 and 1202.5 motors and it was difficult for the 1202.5, I don't know if there is any specific tool for the dimension of that motors. cheers.

Excellent video Nick! And no, your not falsely overhyping the TKS. The frames work great and you just cannot beat the size, performance and cost to make one. Thanks for a great tiny whoop channel with awesome content, Nick! I've tried the 75mm Rocket, the 78mm Rocket Race, and the 83mm Echo 2-inch. I've found the 75mm frame is great with 40mm props. The 83mm frame is awesome with 2-inch (52mm) props. On the other hand, I found the 78mm Rocket Race almost pointless - it's super tight with even 51mm props and chunkier than it needs to be. I'd MUCH rather fly the 83mm Echo 2-inch. The 90mm Starlord is overbuilt and too heavy while the 101mm Echo 2.5-inch should be great with 2.5-inch props (I've got one on the way). You recommended the Crux 3 canopy and I tried that but found it to be VERY brittle - each of two shattered on their first crash. The Eachine CineFun canopy would be perfect for any camera with a larger, ~12-13mm lens (eg; Caddx EOS2, Runcam Split 3). Maybe I'll try the UZ85 or UZ80 canopy if they can be found? The StorkFly rubber bands are great as is the Gennel 10mm cloth adhesive tape (aka; "EMAX tape") from Amazon. I appreciate your sharing!

Yeah shoutout to those nanotech 300mah! I've been using them exclusively for a while now. Started with them on my Trashcan, then on my GnarlyFPV Primo 65mm. I get crazy flight times on 65mm biblades, pushing 5-6mins at times, but then the quad is about as light as your heavier TKS just with larger props and 8000kv 1103s. As far as the connector goes, I actually keep the red JST. I think it's got more than enough current throughput for 2S, especially for a more efficient build, and I think it's a little lighter too. In fact, the lower current throughput means I haven't had any of the 5V reg issues that used to plague happymodel boards since it wouldn't allow the same spike you'd get with an XT30.

hi Nick, i have an almost identical build on an 80mm 2" frame i found on amazon. it has the 10,000kv motors, but an all in one camera, being the only major difference. it's so much fun,the tks must be a blast. great video and awesome flying as always.

Have you tried any of the props without the Tmount hubs on these 2" builds of yours? I just built a 2" on the tks rocket, and the props without hubs save significant weight(mine is coming in at 32.8g with bi-blades and 33.2 on tris with 51mm HQs), but there is clearly much less "prop" material to grab air. I used the TKS Ant Light TPU canopy, and the 2" props are rubbing on it in the front so I had to do some careful mods with a soldering iron. It's very snowy and wet, so I haven't done much testing other than hovering and getting all my builds in order until spring, just curious!

Just noting for posterity that I built one of these with the Crazybee X board and HappyModel 1102 13500kv motors. It was good fun for about six flights, but on the seventh it did a death spiral and came up with a dead ESC. It seems I was asking too much of the board. I'm going to upgrade to the Crazybee F4 Pro V3 and add a VTX so I can still get some use from these motors.

I have read this sort of experience a few times. Its unfortunate that it seems the AIO boards we have are either bullet proof or short lived. It stinks, I wish at some point this issue would be resolved. Pretty much all brands have this sort of experience.

@@NickBurnsFPV You seem to be saying that it maybe was just a bad board, and not a mismatch between the 13500kv motors / 2-inch props and the 5-amp ESCs on the board? I'd go Crazybee X again if I thought it had a chance of surviving, otherwise the F4 Pro V3 seems a safer bet with its 10-amp ESCs.

This quad is like the new and improved interpretation of your Byte Size quad from MaximusFPV that you reviewed back in Nov 2018. The specs are very similar size-wise. Comparing the videos gives good perspective on where the improvements in hardware had been. To my eyes, the most notable improvements had been made with the camera and props. Thanks for the thorough presentation of the TKS, I really enjoyed it.

I’m glad to see you enjoying this build. I feel this size/class got left behind with the move on to 3 inch 3S and a lot was lost in the process. I am loving a build the the jhemcu 16x16 board, the old amax 1103 7500kv motors and with GF 2512 props. Also on the shorter wider 300-350 2S cells. With the GNB cells the lower 300mah with the 70c rating are far better than the 350mah 50c. My build is a slightly bigger footprint but still light and nimble enough to be crazy fun. What will be awesome is when we get the expresslrs 2S board. I find the lower latency is an even greater benefit on these little quads since they lend themselves well to fly tight and on reaction rather than flow and anticipation.

Nick Burns good to know. on these 1102s I’ve found better durability/quality in the Geprc though they are slightly less efficient than the HM. I've been using Hobbyking NanoTech batteries for quite some time now. Yes, they do last a long, long time if you use storage voltage when they're not being flown. Yes, Hobbyking is THE BEST PLACE FOR SUPERB DEALS ON LIPO's! Sure, you do have to swap out the red JST connector on occasion or sometimes another connector, but I bought a 50 pack of XT30's long ago of from Banggood because I knew going in, that Hobbyking for some unknown reason still has a lot of batteries with the wrong connector on it! They do have many more XT30 connector batteries than they've ever had before though. So, they're coming around, it's just been slow! lol But, just browse through their battery selection... I was just doing that looking for 850mah 4s for my soon to arrive Emax Babyhawk2 HD quad. I looked at all of the sites and Hobbyking has around 4 - 6 850mah 4s that were a lower price than ANY other dealer had available! Some quality Nanotech's were 3 - 6 bucks less each than other sites had! I can literally buy my favorite 850mah 4s from Hobbyking and get 3 for the price of 2 from the cheapest alternative from other sites. They have a free shipping program too, but I happen to live about 15 minutes drive from the Hobbyking Warehouse in Tualatin, OR, so I can simply run over and pick them up! Bottom line: I think Hobbyking is BY FAR the best place to buy lipo's for our quads and their lipos are very good quality and THE BEST price period anywhere. A superb selection too. TheirGarphene batteries are among the very best batteries I have ever used in my 4.5 years in FPV! Great prices for Graphene too. They have about six 850mah 4s to choose from...name one other site that has that many of one size of lipo tp choose from. Now, get on their email newsletter (sales email) and get ready for their Battery Blowout sale! Holy Cow they have great deals - so far and away better than any other site in the world, it ain't even close! Highly recommended!!! =(:^)-

Currently wondering if I should convert all my 1s batteries from BT2.0. Ill be building one of these and modifying one of those new HX115 LR quads. Idea is to buy the HX115 LR then some 1202.5 motors and use the 1102 18000kv motors on this TKS. My understanding is the bt2.0 can handle about 9volts with the gnb27 slightly more. So either way will be fine on 2s. One 1st they are also good options. PH2.0 solid pin works well, and works longer than ph2.0 rolled pin but not as long as bt2.0 or gnb27.

I see the discord for emu is still active discord.gg/udZCx8Ma this would be the best place to get current information and assistance. They will be somewhat close. The volume of the motor is one aspect the weight it another. The happymodel 1102 are the lightest in the 1102, not as durable as others, but they also have really good efficiency and performance.
