Why wipe tip of pipette with cotton????

To ensure accurate transfer of only the blood drawn in the pipette. The blood smear that stick on the sides of the pipette tip will add more volume and thereby erroneous result. (Even 1 microlitre is still some volume). Same practice of wiping must be applied to WBC, RBC, Platelet and sperm count experiments using haemocytometer.
