There's a saying in Korea btw: Guys get close by going to the Bath together; girls go to the Bath together after they get close.

@Hachinization Well the point of jjimjilbang is to go into the different rooms after you wash yourself in the public bath part. there are like green-rooms, charcoal room, salt room.etc....they also have ice rooms

@MissRennChann Tattoos are no problem! In Japan it's a problem only because of the history with the Yakuza. People might be interested at your tattoo in Korea, but there are no "do not enter" signs like in Japan. Happy Panda!

I have a daughter in law who is 1/2 Korean and she's asked me if I would do this. There is a place in Houston, TX that has this. I told her; why not? Never been Nakers before but I'm 54 what do I have to hide? ALOT! LOL, regardless if given the opportunity, I think I may try.

@meiji68 yes that's how it is in Korea too. I guess the video didn't explain it very well but Jjimjilbang is bath house + spa/different rooms that ppl go into but they have clothes on. The clothes are given by the jjimjilbang owners. The baths are separated into men and women. if they shared the same bath that'd be crazy

Lol Simon complaining about guys blow-drying their crotches, I've seen that happen in gyms before in north america/europe. Never where it's widespread like a lot of people doing it but every once in a while there's that one guy that's a little too comfortable standing in front of the mirror drying out his pubes in public. So it's not just a korean thing XD

Depending on where you are, you can actually find these. Some Jimjilbangs here in the US have a spa and they offer scrubs. There is one in Chicago called King Spa. The scrubs don't hurt that much, and I get one every time I go.

@Punkyjes194 no... unless your body is covered in dead cells and can't get rid of it.. which would be a huge problem anyways. skin tone is determined by melanine aka pigments in your skin, so your entire skin is producing that as it gets exposed to the sun. If you have a ton of the Ddeh then you'll certainly look slightly paler afterwards. I've found out that some of the darker areas in my skin were just some accumulated ddeh that hasn't been able to get off for some reason.

I have been to a korean jjimjilbang and a mokgyoktang, but it was here in the United States in Georgia. It did seem a little wierd to be walking around naked at first, but I got used to it and I enjoyed relaxing there. I also tried a scrubby thing where a lady used that pad thing and my skin was nice and soft afterwards. I didn't know I had that much dead skin!

hmm did you guys mention theres also a "cool room" in some of the jjimjilbangs. The one i went to had one. It's extremely cool in there, if you get too flustered from the steam rooms you can go in there and you'll feel really cooled off. It's an extremely high air conditioned room.

Oh yh and we put something called سفید آب on the glove before we rub our back (You don't always have to) It's like a small white/cream colored rock (I'm not 100% sure what it is but I think it's good for the skin) and when you rub it against the glove it kinda like scrapes onto it and it causes more friction when rubbed on the skin to exfoliate it more
@Adoredbyothers

I think those are available pretty much anywhere. Maybe not those persay. But there are like scrub gloves and stuff you can definitely find at walmart and target. they hurt a bit and you feel raw but you also feel smooth for days. Plus you get used to the pain.

I don't know the techincal term for the scrubbers, but all I know is that after using it for a couple months - it actually starts to feel nice. I use it on my face, very lightly, and it helps exfoliate my face and get rid of all the dead skin cells. It's awesome.

@Punkyjes194 well depends on how much humid Ontario is but if you keep doing it often as often as you would in Asia your skin might get really dehydrated. also North America has stronger UV rays than Korea. your skin might be a lot weaker after scrubbing all that layer off and you might get moles, sunburn or tans even easier (esp if you're caucasian).

We have Korean spa sauna jimjillbangs here in US..The best one is call king spa in Dallas and Chicago,and imperial spa in Fullerton CA and Las Vegas..I been all of them and holly macaroni..u feel soooo relaxxx and cozy after that body scrub and deep tissue massage..and public nakedness is not a big deal cos everybody naked and no one looking nobody..everybody have they're own business.. love it!!!
@tokee1234567
@tokee1234567 13 жыл бұрын
@Punkyjes194 it's not dirt. it's called Ddeh and it's the top of your skin layer - aka dead skin cells. it looks dark because as you scrub them they get clumped up. you could get paler but it's only temporary. doing it too much is bad for people who are too sensitive or you can scrub too much of your skin layer causing dehydration. in Asia the weather is humid so that's why people there do it because it feels refreshing and dead skin cells accumulate faster. Look for Asian stores to find them

@martiniz14 it depends on where you live. in humid countries like Korea people constantly build up dead skin cells so it can be used often, but if you live in a drier country like in North America it ruins your skin if you do it too often...

Ever since I started watching Korean dramas I've wanted to go to a jjimjilbang! If I ever get to Korea I'll definitely have to try it out. The extreme exfoliating (sounds like a new extreme sport lol) reminds me of when I went to Turkey and had a proper Turkish Bath...it wasn't so painful mind you but my skin felt awesome after it! And yes the amount of skin that can come off is rather yuk!

Jjimjilbangs FTW! It is an awesome place to relax and chill with your friends. It is also the place where everyone turns to when they miss the last bus/subway ride home (*cough* from drinking *cough* mental note: there are separate lockers for shoes and belongings *cough*). Bath houses can be intimidating, especially the ones that have several floors. Nakedness everywhere! If anything, I recommend people to check out locations that have both jjimjilbangs and bath houses. Go with your preference!
