Some cars have 2 traction control settings, namely TC1 and TC2. Their functionality and influence in handling is explained in this short 10' video.
I had this kind of video in Italian, but it was missing in English, so here it is again, this time on a Porsche 991.2

TC - Specifies how much slipping is allowed. And has hard cut of engine power. (no power, power, no power, power...and so on at the specified slipping threshold). TC2 - Specifies how hard the engine power cut should be at the slipping threshold specified by TC. (some power, some power, some power...and so on, where "some power" amount is specified by the TC2 level). So essentially: TC = slipping threshold + no control over power cut. TC & TC2 = slipping threshold + power cut amount.

I race with no traction control its so much more fun and with it off I can slide the car round corners better, I look in the mirrors and my opponents can not do the same and go much wider. The only penalty is its dam tricky coming out of 1st gear corners and I need a better wheel where I can adjust it on the fly for those corners.

Does tire grip threshold change if you use the brake while cornering? Or is the threshold still the same, you are just getting closer to the threshold. If this isn't true, when understeering and then you brake, does this actually move the threshold so you grip again because of more weight?
@ArisDrives
@ArisDrives 4 жыл бұрын
I didn't exactly understand what you mean, so excuse me if my answer doesn't reply your question. The tyres are extremely dynamic. Their peak slip angle varies depending on the surface, load, temperature, wear, other wear situations (graining, blistering, flatspots), pressure, water presence etc. etc. On top of that the peak and grip varies on the combined conditions of longitudinal and lateral grip. The electronics (ABS and TC) try to understand the correct peak value and keep the tyres sliding close to that. Of course it's not possible to make so for every situation and that's why the race cars have multiple levels for the drive to choose and this is also the reason that in race cars you can still get too much spin under acceleration or a lockup under braking in certain conditions. Street cars usually go for the most pessimistic scenario to keep it safe under every condition.

Hello Aris , great video as always. Im wondering why wheelspin happens so easily when at low speeds but then goes away (at the same gear so we still have same wheel torque) as we gain more and more speed
@ArisDrives
@ArisDrives 4 жыл бұрын
For many cars the TC is turned automatically off under 50kmh. Some other cars under 30-40kmh. This helps the drivers do a donut if needed, to recover from a spin. Maybe it is this that you are experiencing.

In my astra when i manually switch off the tc i can do wheelspin easily when i floor it at low speeds at first gear. But when again in 1st gear i floor it in 50kmh i dont get wheelspin. I found these articles but it seemed weird to me that amount of acceleration decreases as we gain more speed (which is what these links say i think) www.quora.com/Why-do-wheelspin-happens-so-easily-at-low-speeds-and-starts-to-go-away-as-we-gain-more-and-more-speed rothautomotivescience.com/power-or-torque/
@SHRModding
@SHRModding 4 жыл бұрын
288 GTO that’s easy to explain. It’s much easier to push an object when it’s at higher speed than when it’s at low speed. Getting something moving is harder. So when your car is slow, your wheel friction is not enough to translate all your engine force into movement because it’s harder to move the car, hence you wheel spin. If you’re going at higher speed it’s much easier to move the car now and so your wheel friction is enough to transfer all force to the movement of the car so you don’t wheel spin. Try pushing a full shopping trolley when it is still and then try to push it faster when it is already moving. The second one is much easier than the first
@ArisDrives
@ArisDrives 4 жыл бұрын
@288 GTO do you have bicycle experience? One with gears? If you have, then you probably know that when you use a "low" gear on your bicycle, you can accelerate fast and spin your legs fast on the pedals but you don't gain much top speed. When you switch to a "high" gear, you accelerate very slow and it's hard to pedal, but if you can you arrive at a much higher top speed. The power you give to your bicycle is the same. It is the power you can generate from your legs. Nothing changes. So the engine is always the same. But your power is transformed to different torque by the multiplying gears. They work like a lever. So either it is easy to spin and accelerate, but low top speed, or hard and slow to accelerate but high top speed. Exactly the same happens in your car. The engine is the same. You engage 1st gear and the power of the engine is multiplied many times by the cogs of the gearbox and much torque arrives at the wheels (so you can spin them), but then the engine can't rev higher and so the top speed for 1st gear is low. Gradually you engage higher gears and the acceleration is slower, but (power permitting) the top speed is higher and higher. Same concept.

We are aware that some configurations on the consoles, have bugs and issues with the steering wheels (which is so strange, as consoles should be plug&play... but...) The porting dev team is hard at work to resolve those and patches will arrive soon. In the mean time I can tell you that "in theory" your real steering wheel should be set at 900° and in the control options of the game it should also be set at 900° there too. To verify if it works properly your real steering wheel and the virtual steering wheel in the cockpit view should rotate 1:1. So say you rotate your real steering wheel at 90°, the virtual wheel should rotate 90° If that is not happening then something is wrong in your configuration and you should try other solutions to see if you can fix it (until the patch makes it proper instantly). Once you have the above correct, the for G29 put the gain at 100%. A little clip (FFB bar becoming red on kerbs and such) is no big deal, don't worry about it. Also put the minimum force at 10-12%. I don't advice to go higher than 10-20% road effects on the G29 because then the FFB becomes noisy and you lose the actual handling feedback and you get only vibrations from the road. This is how it should work and set ideally, but again i don't have a console here and I hear strange things from people so... at least this is the benchmark you should try to achieve.
@MrTacoDelPaco
@MrTacoDelPaco 4 жыл бұрын
@@ArisDrives Thank you so much for the help! I think in my case on the g29 it is a matter of a bug as the wheel and the in game wheel are not equal at 900 and I have to chane the rotation depending on each car to make it a 1 to 1 relation. Even with that 1 to 1 relation, the ffb from the g29 seems too light at times which does t allow me to detect the car sliding for example. Outside of thd problems I am loving the game so far and can see you guys are working hard on fixing it so I am sure that in the future everything will be pefect!

Absolutely not. Those cars are made to be used with ABS and TC, it's part of their engineering. The engine inertia of modern GT3 cars are practically on par with F1 from the 90s, the response is very aggressive and the tyres have very narrow slip angles peak. It makes no sense to try without traction control while for the whole qualifying and race you will always use TC to be faster.

It doesn't work like that. The lower the TC the less intervention you get. Will it be faster? Only you can judge from your driving style, setup, circuit configuration, car, weather conditions, track conditions etc. etc. A green track will probably require higher TC values than a optimum well rubbered track. A wet track will require even higher if not max TC values. Worn tyres will need higher TC values, and so on, and so forth.

@Kacper_Kolodziejczyk
@Kacper_Kolodziejczyk 4 жыл бұрын
You got this completely wrong, first of all 70s and 80s cars were built differently, with a lot of compliance due to softer materials and less understanding of aerodynamics. Tyres were shit but they also had a bit more slip i think, so hence so much sideways driving. They were crazy machines but they were well controllable when you got used to them in most cases. Drivers are just as brave and talented nowadays as they were in the past (or more), especially on average. You put any of the high profile drivers into an old school race car, they'll absolutely push the shit out of it if you let them. As the video explains all tc with and without tc1/2 split work the same, this just gives you a greater level of adjustment with the split. Also a funfact for you, the quickest gt3 drivers sometimes turn tc off entirely for some of their fastest laps in qualifying, but it's a great help during the race to make the car makes it home and to extract more even pace across a stint. As for electric motors, there will be a lot of settings you can set on a motor, a lot more control, more tc levels probably not though.
