Hi. Yes they are free of gunk, I did get them off as soon as I received the machine. It all looks clean and in good order, but having had Brother machines in the past ( we downsized and I got rid of everything) I knew it wasn’t right. There is also a slight bumping noise on the extreme left when I take the setting plate and carriage right to the left. This doesn’t happen with the carriage alone. I’ve move the screws to slightly change the position of the setting plate and it hasn’t really made any difference. It’s the feeling that there is knitting on the machine when there isn’t !

Uh-oh, possible bent sinker plate. Can you borrow a carriage to try? Since you are experienced, I assume you've check gate pegs are straight, etc.

No, I really don't. If you are learning the cast on, increase, decrease, bind off, etc., it's just like any other flatbed and there are lots of videos on that. If you want help learning the electronics, I'd suggest you contact a local machine knitting club (you should join one anyway, as they will encourage and inspire you to get knitting) and see if someone would spend an afternoon with you showing how to use it.

I just acquired an older Singer machine from a friend. It came with the card reader, lace transfer "thingy", ribber, garter transfer "thingy", punch card maker, spare needles etc (and a few wood bug carcasses LOL). I am SO GLAD I found your channel. I'm anxious and excited to try this puppy out. I'll definitely have to clean it first. Where is a good place to purchase replacement pieces. I hear that the sponge bar in particular. I live in Western Canada btw.

In Canada, this person has lots of parts - www.sewknit.ca. Also, John and I like Needle Tek in the US very much. Do comparison shop parts.You make find that the one thing it needs the most is a sponge bar. Be sure and replace that with the Silver Reed variety. Those are available from many sources.

Hi Diana can you tell me which yarns to use in my kh-910 knitting machine and where to buy them i was told that it should be cone yarns is this correct blessings
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 2 жыл бұрын
You want very thin yarn, Group 1 (fine). You can purchase cone yarn, which is especially produced for knitting machines. It feeds very well, has a little waxing (you can't feel it, but it makes a difference), and you get a LOT on a cone. Try, for instance, the Knit Knack Shop (they have a website. No affiliation, but I like their stuff) and purchase the thinner yarns. Avoid cotton to begin with - you want something with a little elasticity.

Would you be able to help me with a problem with my KR-260? I made a BIG mistake. I inserted a Single Motif cam and did not set the carriage to SM. I have a jam I can't fix. The carriage stopped dead when it encountered the cam. The change knob will not go to CR or SM anymore.

I have just bought a second hand Brother KH890. The carriage moves fine, but when I attach the setting plate it’s had to push. There is a new home made sponge bar in it that looks quite thick. Could this be the cause?
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If the sponge bar is too thick, the needles have more trouble sliding along and moving. However, it also could be the wheels under the setting place. They need to spin freely when you spin them with your fingers. They often have fuzz underneath or the screws were put in incorrectly. Usually it's fuzz.

Thank you so much for your reply. I’ve got a new sponge bar coming in the morning, so will hope for the best. 🤞🏻

@@dianaknits h Hi thanks for your prompt help. I’ve in England and have been following your UTube videos quite a lot lately. The machine is clean and looks in good order, the wheels and brushes are all running smoothly, I have removed them and there was no fuzz. . There is a slight knock sound on the extreme left when the setting plate is on, I’ve tried to adjust the setting plate a bit, but it’s not really made that much different. I can cope with that, I’m hoping it’s the white foam, which looks a bit less forgiving than how I remember it that is making the needles feel harder to push.

Hi diane I have a 950i been stored away for good few years and the mc button is stuck solid what is your tip to unstuck your machine buttons that's stuck its x
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 5 жыл бұрын
This is the button that seems to stick the most often! What I do is get penetrating oil (they sell it at auto parts stores, and also online). The auto parts stores near me sell PB Blaster. It has a long straw, which you put on the nozzle and you spray it into the stuck area. Leave the carriage in your kitchen or someplace where you will see it several times each day, and click all the buttons each time you see it. It can take a few days to penetrate and for the buttons to come loose. If that doesn't work, email me about next steps.

Hi, why do you not recommend WD40...? I sprayed my machine with lots of it the other day....
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 6 жыл бұрын
For years, we MKers have noticed that WD40 wasn't good for machines. I asked my husband John, who has all the mechanical talent at our house, and he says: "WD40 has a thick oil dissolved in a light carrier fluid soit flows easily. When the light carrier fluid evaporates, it leaves the heavier oil behind. Said heavier oil is thicker than you want in a KM, and it gets even thicker with time. "Play it safe and stick with a very light machine oil.Diana

I put my machine away during summer, and I brought it out in the beginning of the summer. I haven't used the part buttons on my carraige since I brought it out of the storage box and I went to use them yesterday, only to discover that the left part button is stuck, and won't push in. What should I do about this?
@KevKevAllen
@KevKevAllen 10 жыл бұрын
I've looked at the underside of the carriage, and discovered the moving parts for the opposite part button, but can't see anything wrong with those parts on the affected side of the carriage. :(
@dianaknits
@dianaknits 10 жыл бұрын
You can to fiddle the button and try to see what it moves underneath, if it'll move even a little. Then get some Kroil penetrating oil and use the tiny straw to shoot some oil inside the button area and on the moving parts beneath. Give it a couple of days of sitting on your kitchen counter, poking the button whenever you walk by, as it takes a while to loosen up. If that doesn't work, it needs to go for repairs.
