I looked through some of her pics and she really isn’t that dark. In my opinion, she has a deeper brown with a caramelish tone which varies probably because of having a tan. I think the problem is fully black dark skin women look at Chili as representation. As you said in the beginning she reps for the browner girls but you also have to understand she is half Bengali. Chili is in her 50’s; it used to be a stigma with being darker, like people would say stuff to you like “you are pretty for a dark skin girl”; so maybe she still deals with that, it’s hard to unlearn that stuff that is put on you in childhood. From someone who experienced the comments about my hair and skin complexion growing, but more so my hair; the best that you can do sometimes is not pass on that way of thinking to your children. So if someone did say something negatively them, it’s foreign and it just rolls off their backs. Because you know the thoughts are bad, and you should not see yourself as less pretty because of skin complexion, but it’s ingrained from not only society, but the people you were around daily; it’s awful. There is alot of lighting used in Hollywood and even in the youtube streets that makes people look lighter than they really are. Nonetheless, in all the TLC's video's with that expensive lighting Chilli always looked chocolate. She is delusional and just wants to be light but thinks she can pass as caramel.
