My uncle worked in the Pentagon and did stuff like this. I met him when I was way younger and remember his adoration for planes. The love he had for working on just designs was amazing. I have a sketch he did of a triangle plane I cherish since he passed away. Seeing military craft fly from the base nearby makes me think of him all the time. Love watching you go over these cool aircraft

I saw one fly at an air show over fifteen years ago. Some Air Force base, can't remember where. It didn't do anything spectacular, nothing flashy or loud, but it didn't need to. I already knew what it was capable of. I'd seen the footage of the devastation it caused in the first Gulf war. It was like watching a black panther surveying its territory. It just flew from one end of the runway to the other, but it commanded my respect and awe.

SR-71 wasn’t a stealth bomber it was a reconnaissance stealth jet that was rediculus fast could out run missiles
@StephenButlerOne Жыл бұрын
Also it wasn't designed on a computer. Also the term stealth doesn't mean it can be seen it means it can't be locked on. High bomers and low fighters are detected by different frequencies for lock. The radars can see them they just cart target them with the different types of ground missiles that target them. However today it only takes a few encounters with them, for the enemy to tweak the targeting parameters to them be ablel to detect them.

12:40 it was shot down due to us running the same course every day for weeks straight. The SAM that locked onto it got lucky because the lock happened right as the bomb bays were open. The SAM launched two missiles , one missed the other blew up next to it never making direct contact.

Because of pilot error not because of the plane
@LIKWID11 ай бұрын
@@RW-zn8vy It wasn't pilot error though, there were a number of reasons why it happened. I'll try to keep it as short as possible. Zoltan Dani the commander of the 250th air defence brigade had trained his crew to move equipment and set it back up in very quick time, they limited their use of the radar to avoid becoming targets for the anti radiation missiles. However upon the night of the shoot down, they were looking for the aircraft in roughly the area they knew it would fly and detected it when the bomb bay doors opened. On that same night the prowlers which were responsible for not only jamming the radars but taking them out as well, were unable to fly because of the weather. So the F117 was flying alone. They tracked the aircraft and after launching 2 missiles the second one exploded causing the F117 to fall out of the sky. They actually hit a second one as well, however that was able to land at a nearby base. Final closing fun fact for you. Dale Zelko, the F117 pilot actually met Zoltan Dani at his bakery to speak about the incident. Both of them have met each others families and have become friends to a point. The wing and canopy is in Belgrade's Aeronautical museum. I've seen the wing however the canopy wasn't on display when I visited unfortunately.
@Billmaster1159 ай бұрын
not even pilot error @@RW-zn8vy, Dani Zoltan, the one whom detected the aircraft, flipped his radar on at the exact same time the nighthawks bombay doors were open. days earlier, spies had been watching the airbase where the nighthawks were taking off and reported their deployment to the serbs whenever they took off, that would always use the exact same routes every time.
@RW-zn8vy9 ай бұрын
@@Billmaster115 using the exact routes is an error within itself lol but yes the pilot having the Bombay doors open after bombing is what lead to him being tracked and shot down so easily.
@Billmaster1159 ай бұрын
@@RW-zn8vy true, but those things are open for less than a second, it was a stroke of pure luck that has not been repeated since. Believe me, they have tried. Also, radar on low frequency picks up absolutely everything, so the only reason Dani knew it was an F1-17 is because of the flight pattern. As you have mentioned, that was an error.

I heard the F22 Raptor is similar in the sense that it’s not very aerodynamic and needs computers to aid in stabilization. The reason (in the F22’s case) is to design a aircraft with optimal maneuverability. Also @ 12:16 u mentioned the United States exporting the F22 and that is false. The F22 was never exported. It is only being used in the U.S. We do however export the F-35.

Due to all the odd angles and geometry this plane is also flown by computers with the pilot just entering course corrections and direction changes. Another interesting fact is the red rectangle on the bottom rear of the aircraft is a blow-out panel hiding and arrestor hook so it can land on an aircraft carrier in the case of an emergency.
