I appreciate this video. I just want to point out that IBS does not necessarily mean diarrhea attacks. Some of us with IBS never experience that symptom. Bloating, cramping, constipation and gas are also all IBS symptoms and all exacerbated by fight-or-flight.
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the clarification. I will point out that fight-or-flight may not just exacerbate IBS, but they may actually be the cause. Stress suppresses the immune and digestive systems. Chronic stress creates a chronic suppression of digestive processes. This can create IBS. The primary goal is to focus on stress reduction. The TMS approach typically is to think psychologically, journal, "feel your feelings", to teach ourselves that emotions are SAFE so we can stop getting into fight or flight simply through feeling emotions. However, since IBS is essentially a stress illness, it's really most important to turn down the volume on stress and our reaction to the symptoms. Stressing out about stress caused illnesses will keep them going or make them worse. Soothe, soothe, soothe.

When I was mid 20’s. I broke an engagement and bought my first house. A lot at once. I was very very thin ( maybe anorexic ) and didn’t eat much back then. I was still taking dance classes with younger people in a studio. I ended up having my uncle drive me to the ER one night. I had lower pain and thought my ovary was ripping. lol An old fashioned doctor. Pressed on my stomach. Some gas released. lol I insisted on having some “ tests” done to convince me ( a waste of time and money ) So he ordered them. They found nothing pathological. I still remember what he said after asking me What was going on in my life at the time. His answer - “ You don’t need medication. You need to stop breaking up with guys and stop buying and selling houses. “ haha ! He also told me that throughout my life , when I became stressed, I would feel it in my gut- my sensitive area. Not the shoulders or back. The gut ! He was right. During my life that was the area my brain sent warnings to ! That doctor was ahead of the times for sure. 👍

Well I can I only agree with you: I have severe OCD and my IBS started when my OCD went out of control. Bad OCD day = IBS symptoms flare up. Then of course a second layer went in the game, fear of fear. So my OCD started making me scared of going out because what if I have an attack outside. I’m recovering since OCD, I used to be sick everyday. Literally everyday. It’s going down now but there are still some days or people (people who trigger me) than create attacks. I am going through the day but I know the root of this is me being scared of getting ashamed and caring on a very high level what others think as well.

For the next nine months I had every procedure imaginable to find the cause, but nothing showed anything. Great insight and thanks for sharing! You very well explained how the stress amd worries worsens the symptoms, from what i understand thats not the root cause of IBS,as you can see the symptoms occur even when you're in a calm state of mind, it's rather caused by your unconscious as a diversion from your repressed emotions as dr. Sarno suggest, I'm very curious how the brain creates these symptoms, unlike back pain disorders where the mind creates an oxigan deprevation that causes the pain. tysm
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 2 жыл бұрын
The exact physiological mechanisms may not be completely known depending on the symptoms. Pain is a decision made in the brain. It's not a reliable indicator of the condition of the body. It is a reliable indicator of the brains perception of danger. Regarding digestion - we know that stress suppresses our digestive system which can cause digestive issues to occur. Does that happen to divert our attention from repressed emotions? Perhaps, but there could just be a less than optimal digestion system from being in fight or flight too much. I don't believe we need to figure it all out or understand the exact mechanism in the body for how the brain creates it all. I am confident that just knowing that is what is happening is enough to begin teaching the brain safety so it can begin dialing down the nervous system and returning the digestive system to balance and normal function. Two videos I would encourage you to watch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp-4Z354dttonMk kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4TWfKF3nKappLs

I went to the proctologist and a gastroenterologist, they didn't gave me anything for it just a phone number for a therapist haha. It has stayed because of my fear of having cancer because of it. Even though both doctors have told me that this condition doesn't develop that horrible condition. Now reading all the symptoms that most of the people have, i feel blessed that mine are really tiny compared to having diarrhea 24/7. All of you can do this I had more than 7 symptoms including the gut problem, now I live with only 2 every now and then the back pain returns, but I ignore it with confidence after been able to do pull ups with my 170lbs and stretching my back like a scorpion, pain doesn't have too much sense. Hi Dan, thank you for this video. It makes it very clear. I overcame TMS issues (back pain, wrist pain, toothache, foot pain) during the last 10 years. But I have difficulties to handle IBS. My main symptomes are pressure pain in my bowels, bloating). Perhaps I've read to much of IBS advices like do not eat stodgy meals, make fodmap diet (I did, it did not help) ... So during the last 3 years I ate more and more ligther healthy meals. I omitted a lot of nice food (i.g. onions) And now I think, that in the consequence the biome in my bowels is not very good trained and cannot digest richer meals. I know, this is fear: the fuel of IBS. But perhaps there is something true in this conclusion? How to know? Sometimes I try to eat such meals, but more often it ends with more symptomes. A vicious circle! Can you give me some advice? By the way, my favorit book is "The way out" of Alan Gordon.

Are you clear that your body is not the problem? Are you still pursuing medical treatments for your symptoms? What do you believe is wrong? The information below will help you get clarity and lay out a path for you: Foundational Information: Understanding Pain Watch the video at: PainFreeYou.com Watch the video about Perceived Danger Pain: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qp-4Z354dttonMk - this explains SO much of what is going on. Next Level: Determining if your pain is from TMS/PDP: Take the pain test: DanBuglio.com/paintest - a score over 29 means you have TMS / Perceived Danger Pain. This also means you CAN end your symptoms. Do the FIT assessment below. If you answer yes to even one of the criteria, it is very likely your brain creating the pain based on perceived danger. FUNCTIONAL: -Symptoms began without a physical precipitation -Symptoms persist after an injury has healed (3-6 mo) -Symptoms are in a distribution pattern that is symmetric -Symptoms occur on one whole side of the body or occur on half of the face, head, or torso -Symptoms spread over time to different areas of the body -Symptoms radiate to the opposite side of the body or down a whole leg or arm -Symptoms that occur in many different body parts at the same time -Symptoms that have a quality of tingling, electric, burning, numb, hot or cold INCONSISTENT: -Symptom shift from one location in the body to another -Symptoms are more or less depending on the time of day. Or they occur first thing in the morning or in the middle of the night -Symptoms occur after, but not during, an activity or exercise -Symptoms occur when one thinks about them or when someone asks about it -Symptoms occur when stresses increased or one thinks about stressful situations -Symptoms are minimal or nonexistent when engaged and joyful or distracting activities, such as when on vacation -Symptoms are minimal or nonexistent after some kind of therapy, such as massage, chiropractic, Reiki, acupuncture, an herbal or vitamin supplement TRIGGERED: -symptoms are triggered by things that are not related to the actual symptom, such as foods, smells, sounds, light, computer screens, menses, changes in the weather -symptoms are triggered by the anticipation of stress, such as prior to school, work, a doctors visit, a medical test, a visit to a relative, or a social gathering; or during those activities -symptoms that are triggered by simply imagining engaging in the triggering activity such as bending over, turning the neck, sitting or standing -symptoms that are triggered by light touch or innocuous stimuli, such as the wind or cold Moving forward: Free general recommendations. I've seen Sarno mention canker sores. I have had chronic canker sores on and off for years! Is the solution to that the same as anything else? Eat the acidic foods even though you have open sores in your mouth and just not care? If I were to wait until they were gone to eat painful food, sometimes there would always be on there regardless. Each one lasts weeks and they'll often appear one after another!

My ex girlfriend used to get canker sores sometimes. I'm not sure eating any food was comfortable when she had it. A listed cause is stress. Safety can surely help that. It's not a matter of eating foods that make it hurt more to prove anything. It's a matter of lowering fear and stress levels with more self care and soothing. My ex used to take lots of lysine the moment she felt one coming on and she found it helpful in shortening the duration of the sore.

But...a few minutes later, I'm right back at that same thought. This repeats all day. I try soothing, mindset, breathing, meditation, etc. Do you have any advice or suggestions please?

Good question! Just stay consistent. It's normal to wonder that. But replace it with "Why do I KNOW that I'm on the right track and WILL get better?" When you tell yourself something you don't yet believe, the brain calls bullshit. When you pose it as a question, the brain goes to work looking for evidence that you are on the right track. This video explains the concept better than I can in a comment here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooLUlqSBfbSZmNk

Hello Dan, Which Dr. Sarno or other authors' book would you recommend and rate the best on the subject of TMS?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou 2 жыл бұрын
Of Sarno's books, I like The Mindbody Prescription. Otherwise, Alan Gordon's new book The Way Out aligns well with my recommendations. I'm working on my book.

Fundamentally, do you believe TMS is THE ONLY cause of your symptoms? Or do you believe you have some illness or disease or physical problem? Go back to basics. www.PainFreeYou.com/start - go through ALL the resources on this page. Dialing down the fear with accurate information is key. Symptoms and pains are fueled by fear. It's tough to dial down fear if you believe your body is sick or broken in some way.

Hey Dan, since the brain causes reflux to happen, would the temporary damage that it the acid causes to thw esophagus cause the symptoms? Or is the brain still the only thing causing symptoms? If it's the acid damage causing symptoms, would the same results still come from treating it with indifference? The whole process would stop? Would it do good in the mean time to try to treat the acid situation?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou Жыл бұрын
Reflux is one of those things where sometimes treating it is smart. But you STILL want to be clear that being in the stress response is likely the CAUSE of the problem and getting out of the fight or flight response more will allow digestion to return to balance. In a calm balanced state, digestive issues like reflux can settle down.

@@PainFreeYou Thanks Dan. I have an issue that I believe is related to digestion, but also can't entirely tell, and can't afford the doctor. Either way, I know it is stress-induced, or from introducing too many foods at once, but can I still treat it with all the same techniques even if my belief about the particular symptom isn't all the way on TMS? Will messages of safety work and smiling and all that work if I keep believing it's acid damage instead of only TMS making it seem like it is?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou Жыл бұрын
@@jakelemons7645 Seems you have zero evidence of acid damage. Eating too many types of food at once may make us feel unwell, but the body is exceptionally good at expelling things that are not good for us. So, that said, with zero evidence of acid damage, why believe that? Stress causes digestive issues because being in the fight or flight response suppresses digestion. Lose the fear. Trust the body to return to balance.
@jakelemons7645
@jakelemons7645 Жыл бұрын
The only reason I say acid damage is because I was on a highly restrictive diet and then ended up eating a bunch of the worst thing for that diet right after. I wasn't really even afraid when I introduced it, because it was just garlic on a pizza without sauce. But a few hours later it felt like food was stuck in my esophagus and was regurgitating. Then the next day it was a little bwtter but came back some. Went away after a few days but as I introduced more of the "worst" foods, it happened sometimes and not others, and eventually woke up with it even worse. Then I saw that I skipped the maintenance phase of the diet where foods of lower ph are slowly introduced. So that's what makes it confusing... Because if I eat what I want, I could be messing that up more, and if I don't eat what i want, there's the emotional tms factor

Can TMS cause chronic gastritis?
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou Жыл бұрын
Yes. When in the stress response, digestion is suppressed which can allow things like gastritis to occur.

@@PainFreeYou oh really!? Okay reflux can you fix by thinking positive and eating what you want, but if you have gastritis you HAVE to be careful with what you eat? So how te fix this? Please help me out🙏
@PainFreeYou
@PainFreeYou Жыл бұрын
@@zindan020 I didn't say thinking positive and eating what you want is the solution. I suggested that knowing that stress suppresses the digestion system and CAN allow things like gastritis to develop. From there, getting out of the stress response and teaching the brain that foods are not the issue can move you in the right direction. The concepts I teach daily for all sorts of symptoms should help you as well. WAY too much to spell out in KZbin comments. A good place to begin is: www.PainFreeYou.com/start
