How To Make An Upcycled Leather Collage Necklace

In this DIY video, we will be creating a gorgeous one-of-kind collage necklace. All the materials are thrift store finds, which makes this affordable to do and earth friendly. This piece of wearable art would be a beautiful addition to so many different fashion aesthetics, like: hoho, hippie, lagenlook, edgy, steampunk, street style and more. We will be using leather from a thrifted jacket and adding wonderful found treasures with simple jewelry making tools. Let your imagination run wild and customize your own piece of jewelry, making it exactly how you desire. These also make great gifts or you can sell them like I did for so many years.

The deer head is fabulous on the piece. Another winner. I can't wait to make a burgundy one out of a thrifted skirt. Rather scared, but will toss in washer if need be. I have a dry clean kit to put in dryer. If it is OK for leather will use that instead.❤

@@marymem9864 ooooh let me see, I've never done a demo before. But I watched some KZbin videos that show how to do it. And also took the old stick shift thing and opened it up and went on from there. There's also some sewing by hand on it so beware. I wish I could share the photos of it. It was a beautiful royal blue color... for my VW enthusiast (my daughter). I also took some appliques that have VWs on it and patched some of the jean pockets and such (she sold them) at the car shows she goes to...those VW lovers are craaasy...

I have sewn denim blankets and made some bags using denim and leather. When I started this type of sewing, I went down the vintage sewing machine path. These machines are made mostly of metal, easy to use, and can be serviced by me. They are also not very expensive. This path is a dangerous one as I now have many vintage machines to play with. My youngest machine is a Janome from the 1980's (this one I brought new) and my oldest is one from the 1910's. which is a Singer. Love your channel.

Odors and stains are some of the pitfalls of thrifting. I've passed up so many beautiful things because they smelled like an ashtray! I work as a sorter at a thrift store and we have to discard a lot of clothing simply because of odors. Do you have a method for deodorizing fabrics? Thank you in advance!

Wow! Your upcycled leather collage necklace looks like it is worth a lot of money. It is interesting and beautiful by itself or mixed with other necklaces as you did here. Dry cleaning leather will not remove stains and body oils. My sons leather jacket developed a neck ring that would not come out. Even after being professionally dry cleaned, it was still stained. He would not wear it anymore. I gave the jacket to a friend (she made book covers from the leather). Oil looks very impressive on the edges of leather covers on old Bibles.
