We had a squirrel about 2 years named Benny that we raised from a baby and eventually he bit me. It was just time for him to go, but we couldn’t seem to find the right time to get him used to being outside, so he got a bit wild. When i went to the doctor, they said rabies test wasn’t necessary because chances he had rabies was super slim because we got him so young. We released him the next day, and now he lives in our backyard. Our cat watches him out the window.

I was injured in a car accident and had to stop working and now I look after my 83 year old mom and we’re both on a fixed income. My brother unfortunately lost my mom’s house bcuz she co-signed for my brother’s house and he defaulted so the bank took it. It was supposed to go to me, but now we pay $2100/month on rent instead of next to nothing bcuz the house was almost fully paid off. So I fully know what you’re going through, but like you said no matter what we may be dealing with you can’t help but feel for others who are also hurting. What they did to Peanut and the raccoon was completely unnecessary and so cruel. They were probably so scared. I hope they can keep their nonprofit going through all of this. I don't know about monetary assessments, but the way that everything was turned over in their home and the excessive amount of time it took for them to apparently locate and secure two animals is incredibly questionable -- on the surface, it definitely appears like an overreach of a search warrant. The fact that the agents didn't wear bodycams and were so concerned about the homeowners having a video surveillance system makes their actions look that much worse.

So much virtue signaling in here. How many of you fund slaughterhouses and pay people to stab animals in the throat even though we don't need to eat animals to be healthy? And you expect to be taken seriously when you say you are "against animal cruelty? Are you kidding?
