That's a pretty rare squirrel if I'm not mistaken. Excellent job keeping that awesome little guy safe. It is absolutely a joy to see this kind of humanity in its pure form. We come from nature and are animals that have evolved. The importance of communing with the other species on this planet is not only entertaining and heart warming, but it is true to our nature and beneficial in so many ways. Examples like this are a perfect reminder that our coinhabitants learn so instinctually through emotional connection. Who knows how they could surprise us if we all learn a lil to treat them better.

...and hilarious. The squirrels that hang around my house are total tricksters and I swear are always trying to make me laugh. There's one that, no lie, will look me straight in the eyes waiting till I throw a peanut, and then will PRETEND to look for it and not be able to find it, even though it's like eight inches away from him. Over and over I've interacted with this guy and observed him, so I know it's not a vision or smell thing. He's just a little con artist!

This had me Googling the life expectancy of squirrels lol. Sounds like, in captivity, they can live up to 20 years. Longer than dogs and most cats. That made me happy to think of these two having each other for that long.

I have a grey (a little invader from the US) that visits my garden and feeds from my hand, he charges towards me like a pup when he sees me. I will sit on the step when the weather is bad and he will shelter behind my legs when he eats as well. They are remarkably bold, curious and friendly creatures.

Brought a tear to my eye. Mark's a person the world needs more of, absolute diamond of a man. Going out of his way and making an effort to look after a tiny orphan that had nobody. I'm over the moon knowing Peanut is loved, has a good life with enrichment, and with a man who'll do anything for him! Never seen a dark brown squirrel before, didn't know they existed. In England the American grey squirrels are everywhere, the native red squirrels are fighting for survival, little pockets of land here and there where they're still found. So America has grey, and brown squirrels?!

It's wonderful how you treat your squirrel. They are great. I once saved a squirrel also. I found him on his back and bleeding, not alot, but still, he was hurt. I put a hand towel around him and bought him home. I had an empty shoe box so I put hand towels at the bottom and left one to cover him with at night. I served him sweet potatoes and bananas. As he was hurt around the mouth I cooked the sweet potatoes and bananas he ate fresh. He loved them. I also gave him water with a nose dropper. The first time he took the water, he just kept drinking what felt like a forever time. Eventually and slowly he started to eat peanuts. It was heartbreaking letting him go. I've seen him only once since than. But by now he must have his own family. Still miss him.

When I was a teenager I saved 3 baby squirrels, 2 blacks & 1 gray. They were the best pets ever, we had them for like a year and then we sent them free in the woods behind our house. They came back a few times but then they totally went wild. That was over 45 years ago, and I still think of them and how fun they were.
