TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT: Build your crew. Give them things to do. Character growth. DSC: Make Michael solve everything, and maybe Tilly, Stamets and Culber will occasionally say something helpful. When you don't properly write about your bridge crew, that's where you get stories of an Ensign (Tilly) being put in command over more experienced and well qualified officers.

The alien head thing has been a problem in a few different works. The head is massive and over-designed, freaky and completely inhuman. But everything below the neck is just a completely normal human body. So the head ends up looking comically oversided.

Although legacy trek has some mad designs, pretty much all the heads were in proportion to the humanoid body, I can see why they still heavily relied on aliens that looked exactly human though, or some slight diff like the Bajorans noses or Andorians just being blue with little antennae, or the Bolians again being just blue with a seem down their face...you get the point.

It's true. Apart from Burnham, Tilly and Saru, it's almost impossible to remember any of the bridge crew's names. I just got around to learning which one was Bryce and the very next week, he was transferred to another ship - because the actor playing him had gotten a regular role on another show (and who could blame him?).

Having not watched much of nu Trek maybe this is an unfair statement or maybe it's just Hollywood these days but none of the cast in the nu Trek shows look like adults, they look like college students or mid 20's at best. Even the guy in the captains chair doesn't look over 30.

BNW and LD are both good. LD takes a few episodes to rev up, but is fantastic by the end of season 1. Most of season 1 is pretty good, but it’s firing on all cylinders by the end of season 1. The humor *is* reference heavy, but it’s a damn good Trek all the same. BNW is… a little weird. Not bad weird, just a little stilted. Second season was less so, but still… like… like they’re trying to keep some of the TOS writing tone? But more collegiate like TNG and DS9 were? I don’t dislike it. I just find it a bit off.

Trek actors are all over computer games, Troi is in Mass effect, Picard is in Oblivion, Worf is in Fallout 1,2 and New Vegas, Odo is Mr House in New Vegas, Janeway is in Dragon age (I am sure there mut be a few more but thats what I can think of right now).

@@temparalflux914 Tons. Michael Dorn was also a Krogan in Mass Effect 2. Kate Mulgrew was awesome alongside Lance Henricksen in Run Like Hell. I just like War of the Chosen because they touted it as having five TNG actors, but Dwight Schultz has been doing voice work in video games and cartoons for decades, and he happens to do voices for War of the Chosen as well. In fact, for the A-Team expansion in Lego Dimensions, he was the only actor from the show to do voices, but also voiced several other characters before the A-Team pack was even announced. My favorite Schultz voice performance has to be Harman Smith in Killer 7. Absolutely epic.

It's really offensive how bad the production is, they clearly basically fired these people, Hired mostly background actors. That alien helm is nice work, naturally Riker is excited to "engage" with an unfamiliar species. Remember when STD started out? They wanted to make the Klingons centuries ahead of Federations tech. Contracted to use awesome full scale suits, half way through season one filming. Yeah.. we know it was expensive to make the Torchbearer suit, now about that usage fee, here's basically nothing. The suit quickly disappeared from show.

Four seasons of relative continuity of bridge crew... yes, we didn't get many in depth stories on them, but we had a fairly consistent set of faces... now they pretty much all seem to be got rid of, in favour of 'comic relief' with junior staff and cadets saving the day every week. Where the hell has Detmer gone, for example? She piloted the ship from the beginning of the damn show and seems to have been erased in favour of the no-names brought in without any explanation.

About last point with very Star Wars like alien: Like sure, Star Trek that we know and love had a plenty of humanoid, but very much not human races. You know what race they also have that so far only exists in animation? Caitians.
